Kaiser Permanente - Doctor Ordered Incorrect Genetic Test Which Caused Me To Lose My Sperm Donor
I will try to make it brief but can answer any additional questions.
My wife and I started the process to have a baby. I was insured with Kaiser Permeante (KP) and went to my KP OB. I requested a specific genetic test to be completed (in writing). The DR ordered the wrong test, and instead of the largest panel I received the smallest panel. The records that were sent to me with the results have the name of the largest genetic test despite it actually being the smallest genetic test. I did not realize the error until a couple of months later when my wife and I had selected donors and had to go to a genetic counselor to ensure we did not have any of the same diseases. I was unable to move forward with me selected donors because I did not have the appropriate genetic test. At this time, I was no longer insured with KP and was now insured with BCBS. I went back to KP a requested they proved the correct test, they were unable to without drawing blood again. I proceeded with obtaining the correct genetic test under my new insurance. While waiting for the results both of my two donors were no longer available for purchase and I am now in the process of locating another donor. My wife and I are black, and we are only interested in a black donor. There is a national shortage of black donors and the two donors that we selected were high quality donors (attorney and a doctor).
KP has acknowledged their mistake (in writing) and reimbursed me for the cost of the incorrect test.
Can I sue the doctor for ordering the wrong test?
Kay Jewelers - Lost Wedding Rings
Hi, I recently sent my husband’s wedding band, my engagement ring, and my wedding band in to get polished and resized. Kay jewelers has lost all three rings.
The section on the bottom of the receipt reads as follows:
“In accepting said merchandise, it is understood that this store, or any of its employees, are not responsible for identification or condition of stones or jewelry at the time of receipt. This store accepts the merchandise listed above solely for the purpose of repair and does not undertake to act as an insurer of this merchandise.
I agree with the description and values of the merchandise listed above.
IF ANY MERCHANDISE LISTED ABOVE IS LOST OR DAMAGED, I UNDERSTAND THAT I WILL RECEIVE REPLACEMENT MERCHANDISE OF LIKE OR SIMILAR VALUE UP TO AND NOT EXCEEDING THE AMOUNT STATED ABOVE. MERCHANDISE MAY LEAVE PREMISES, CUSTOM DESIGN JEWELRY IS NOT RETURNABLE.” - basically waiving them of any legal obligation. My husband and I have requested a refund for the value of the rings, which they have denied. They have offered to replace the rings, but my husband and I want to be done with Kay. Do I have any power to take them to court to get a refund?

Prudential Life Insurance - I need to vent (prudential life insurance)
My stepdad passed away mid march, he told me years ago if anything ever happened to him that he had life insurance. The past week ive been trying to figure out his policy number to get more information regarding all of this. I still don’t know his policy # but now have a claim number and they have emailed a document that I need to sign. In order to access those documents I need a “code” which is the date of birth/date of death, unfortunately the first agent got the date of death wrong so I got locked out, they had to resend it again. Today I finally receive the email again, I STILL cannot access it because they keep putting in the wrong date.
OneMain - Paying off Debt: Personal Loan Payoff Question
My husband and I are working through paying off our debt. I have a personal loan through OneMain we are wanting to pay off ASAP
I got a payoff last week good through tomorrow, but then on Monday I called in and canceled the optional product of Credit Insurance and Disability Insurance. The issue is, the cancelation of those products applied to the overall balance that includes pre-calculated interest, but it did not come off of the payoff amount.
I called customer service and they said the payoff amount is basically already assuming the cancelation of those optional products. Does that sound right?
homeowners insurance - Condo water leak question
Very long story short, condo had a water leak 4 months ago. My homeowners insurance says that based on the HOA bylaws, the HOA is responsible for the damage. HOA is saying the opposite. So I’m at a stalemate. What do I do? I’m assuming an attorney is my next step but who pays those legal fees if I win? Condo is in South Carolina if that matters.
To make it more complicated, my insurance sent in water mitigation contractors that completely ripped my kitchen out. They did this before asking me for a copy of the HOA policy and determining they’re not responsible for yet it was their contractor that came in. Now I have no kitchen and both parties saying they’re not responsible. Ugh.
United Healthcare - UHC via workplace vs ACA
Is there a difference in how United Healthcare covers their insureds if it’s through the workplace vs the ACA (marketplace)?
I currently have UHC through my work and it’s not as bad as people say. I’m thinking about retiring early and getting UHC via the marketplace but I’ve been reading there is a huge rate of denials or delays for basic care. Is there a difference between the two? Anyone had UHC via their work and then switched to the ACA UHC?
Medi-Cal - Medi-Cal and HSA
I have Medi-Cal currently. I just got hired at a job that would make me ineligible for it.
I tried cancelling my Medi-Cal but they're asking for proof of salary or something of the sorts. I still have not gotten paid but I will be paid biweekly and I have 30 days to enroll myself into the work benefits. If I submit the proof, am I still able to enroll into HSA from my job and not get into any trouble? Not sure at what point they will kick me off of the MediCal benefits after I send them an employment letter or whatever proof they want to see.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Need surgery- as of YESTERDAY hospital stopped contracting with BCBS
I recently had a life event (job) that allowed me to change my plan. I chose blue cross blue shield options, because the doctor I need to get a surgery from is in network with them! As of yesterday the hospital in Dallas is not in contract with blue health blue shield anymore.... would this be enough to qualify for another life changing event? This doctor is one of the few specialists that preform this micro nerve surgery. I heard soemtimes hospitals and insurance companies come to agreement and they will start accepting my insurnace again.
TD Insurance - Could I possibly be reimbursed for the deductible I paid, since I was not at fault in the accident?
[Ontario, Canada] Might not be the best place to ask this, but I was unable to find anywhere else.
Following a car accident that was not my fault, my vehicle was totaled. My insurance provider, TD Insurance, paid off the car loan, and during the process, the agent proposed deducting my deductible from their payment to the finance company, with the understanding that they would later recover this amount from the other party's insurance. However, almost six months have passed, and I have yet to receive the deductible reimbursement. When I inquired, the TD agent explained that they have had difficulty contacting the other insurance company, citing a recent instance where they were on hold for over an hour without success. As this is my first experience with such a situation, I would appreciate guidance on how to proceed.
State Farm - StateFarm has been increasing my auto premiums
I (live in NJ)have a leased Nissan Rogue 2024. Never been in an accident, have drive and safe enrolled and drive app 10k miles a year max never missed a payment. They've gone up from $89 to $120 in 6 mnths flat. Feels like this is getting a bit out of hand..
Is anyone else facing this and can someone suggest alternatives or suggestions?
