Healthy Paws - Help me decide
This is for a puppy that will be enrolled at 8 weeks old.
All unlimited options:
Pets Best
- doesn’t cover alternative therapies such as shockwave, PRP, stem cells, PEMF
- $50.87 month
- 90% with $500 deductible
Healthy Paws - my current insurance provider
- no longer offers 90% coverage
- policy states it doesn’t cover diseases preventable via vaccine which is concerning since vaccines don’t always cover all strains
- $47.71 month
- 80% with $250 deductible
Pumpkin
- sample policy says “we may decide not to renew your policy at the end of any policy period” which is concerning if you start having a lot of claims
- $74.99 month
- 90% with $500 deductible
Figo
- $51.99 month
- no exams covered (or $62 with exams covered)
- 90% with $500 deductible
Any thoughts? I’m happy with Healthy Paws but the 80% is disappointing so considering other options
Spot - Best Insurance for Cats?
I currently have Spot but they decided to raise my premium with no real extra benefit (as most insurance companies do around this time of year). I am now getting charged around $40 a month for a $500 deductible, 90% reimbursement after deductible and no preventative care. Is this fair?
Also if anyone has actually filed a claim and been satisfied with the company/experience which was it? Any company I should avoid all together? Insight would be nice!
(side note: I was looking at Progressive coverage since I could bundle with auto but idk if that's a good idea)
Pet’s Best - Pet’s Best
I’m not having a good experience with Pet’s Best. Started my policy in November for a 3yr old rescue. It has been about 4 weeks since I submitted my last claim. Emails came saying they’ve reached out to (wrong vet) for medical records. I call my vet and they get emailed to PB within minutes. Today I get another email asking for my help. I forward the same email from my vet to them. Then sign in to see they have all the medical records and have labeled them “valid”. It’s almost like they’re holding off until I get charged for another month.
Meanwhile, they reimbursed for hookworm medication within a week of submitting the claim. That was my latest claim.
Embrace Pet Insurance - Embrace pet insurance
Going through Reddit before I got my Italian greyhound puppy, I came to the conclusion that dog insurance was a NECESSITY with this breed. I did a lot of comparing companies as well as reading reviews of each company with different scenarios and decided on embrace.
I currently pay ~$70/month and it’s been so worth it for me!
Deductible of $250/year with 90% reimbursement afterwards.
Well my Finn boy fractured his leg and we were devastated and overwhelmed by the guilt/fear/etc. We went straight to the ER and found out he needed surgery to have it repaired. (~$6,000). By reading the contracts and stipulations of the insurance agreement I knew it would be covered and there was no way we could have afforded it without insurance.
It did take a lot of hassle on my end. I had to call them several times to get my claim moving. I had to submit all of his documents (several different times). After calling a 4th time and them claiming they did not get the documents I ended up emailing the records to them as well. My claims were then put on “hold” due to insufficient documentation. I was at my wits end trying to come up with anything else they could possibly need. I called again explaining absolutely everything and the worker put notes into the file and sent it back to the adjusters. FINALLY a couple of days later (1 month total of waiting) I finally got reimbursed 🥳.
It was such a shit show but I was so relieved that it covered basically everything. My only complaint is that if you don’t pester them they don’t get anything done. The workers told me that the first claim always takes the longest to process and the next ones should only take a week or less. I hope that’s the case- hahah!
unknown - Can I make my boss pay me back for what insurance was supposed to pay for?
I recently ran into some medical issues and just got my blood sent in for testing, which my office said they'd run through my insurance. Then today at work my coworker got a call from her doctor saying that her appointment had to be rescheduled or cancelled because her insurance policy came back as having been cancelled. I immediately went to check the status of my insurance and found that it had been "termed" as of a month and a half ago. According to my insurance provider, I have no medical, dental, or vision insurance. My paychecks are still having money pulled for insurance payments and I received no notice of a cancelled plan (checked emails, messages, and physical mail) but when I call my provider they tell me I'm not insured. This is the same for every other coworker I've spoken to this afternoon.
I've already reached out to my employer about this and am waiting on a response, but my question is: if my medical bills come back higher because I'm "not insured", am I legally able to make my employer pay for the difference as it's their responsibility to maintain my (and my other coworkers') health insurance?
MetLife - Best affordable dog insurance?
I have an emotional support dog and he helps support me with my panic disorder everyday!! I know some people think dog insurance is a joke, but I’m disabled (for physical reasons) and want to be more prepared/protected with pet insurance so I won’t be stuck with a giant bill with a budget income. (Yes, I understand you have to pay it all upfront at the first before you see any money back from insurance.) Would love to hear some decently priced options for mostly full coverage!
I have MetLife, but thought I’d ask for recommendations before I switch because $90/month isn’t exactly budget friendly for me 😕 Thanks for making it this far!! 😎👍🏻
Trupanion - Trupanion Experience
Just sharing an experience that may be helpful to others. I signed upon or Trupanion about 4 years about based upon Wirecutter's review at the time saying that their increases over time were modest and product was good. When I got my puppy four years ago, the rate was $70 month. Fast forward three and a half years and my rates were $103 ( not too modest in my opinion). I just got an email saying that my rates were going from $103 to $135. That's an astronomical increase in my opinion. It got me wondering what Im going to be paying when my dog is 11 years old and he may need the insurance, $300/month? More?I decided it was no longer for me and I wanted to cancel.
Customer service was relatively good till this point. But when I wanted to cancel they made it EXTREMELY difficult. I could find nowhere on the website to cancel until finally finding some back alley link that said I had to call them on the phone to cancel. Annoying... shady... but fine. I called them and waited on hold for five mins for someone to take my info. They did, then they said they had to transfer me to the cancelation department. Shock and surprise it was a 20 minute wait. When I got the agent on the phone, they needed to take all the same info again, and then I was forced to sit through a 15 minute scripted summary of why my cancellation was a bad idea and why their rate hike was justified rather than them just taking my info and cancelling the subscription. They told me if I hung up and didn't listen to the whole spiel my insurance would not be cancelled. The whole thing felt like a forced captivity last ditch effort sales pitch to keep me, rather than facilitating what it was I called to do. Really disappointing customer service. To not have an online option to cancel in today's day and age is egregious. Forcing people to to listen to a sales pitch is customer relations malpractice.
United Healthcare - Type 1 diabetes/health insurance in ohio being married
I am wondering if anyone has figured out the best insurance available in ohio that is budget friendly? I use to have medicaid but they kicked me off a few months ago and ever since I've been on this healthcare marketplace insurance with united healthcare but in still struggling with paying it and living my life lol...
I have omnipod and dexcom g7 and they barely cover that... I'm also wondering if it would help to find separate insurance from my spouse? Or just to stay on the same insurance?
MetLife - Good insurance for a healthy cat? Did my research and looking for more personal reviews
Okay so my cat is almost 2 yo and has no pre-existing conditions, has a primary vet, and is not spayed yet (Plan to, very soon!)
I’m looking for a good insurance that covers wellness (mostly blood test and spaying cost?) for the first year and accident&illness for the following years. I have gotten some quotes and is eyeing Odie and MetLife for that, but every insurance seems to have bad reviews, or some would even call them scams.
Please provide me some experiences/takes on the insurance you use for your cat, thanks in advance!! This could be really helpful for me ;))
P.S. the reason I want a wellness plan to cover spaying is because there’s no shelter/low cost spaying availability around me and I want to be consistent with my vet :,) my cat went into heat last week and I don’t want this to come back again so really wanna do it sooner.
Fetch Pet Insurance - BEWARE: Fetch Pet Insurance is deceitful about their dental coverage
I've paid $3332 in premiums for my dog's insurance policy. Now, the first time I try to file a claim for a dental extraction, it is not approved because she had a pre-existing condition of "mild gingivitis" three years before our policy began. [They boast all over their website that they have the most extensive coverage for dental compared to other pet insurances](https://www.fetchpet.com/the-dig/does-pet-insurance-cover-dental-care), but they do not. My dog's gingivitis was so mild at that time the vet said it was not a concern, but apparently that is considered a pre-existing condition. Just want to warn other pet owners out there.
