Geico - Car accident settlement
I was driving east on 71 headed home for the day after work when someone pulled out from a stop sign on Albert Brown Drive. I was luckily able to maneuver around the person without making any contact with the vehicle however in doing so my vehicle spun out and landed in a ditch. Vehicle is totaled, my head was bleeding from a minor cut, cut on my leg, bruise on my shoulder, little bit of neck pain but the worst was the red mark on the back of my ribs and a coupled ribs being bruised. Sucks I had just bought the car not a month ago and was a fairly rare 1993 Volvo 240 sedan that was black on black with chrome accents, super slick car and I looked forever until I could find it.
Geico called me and said how usually this is an odd case because there was no contact with the other vehicle however the driver and police report said it was his fault so Geico is wanting to offer me a settlement. they offered $2,450 as basically "we sorry" this happened and will still cover the medical expenses from the ER and the vehicle cost's. Just not sure if I should take the offer being the wreck caused me to lose two days of work at one job and haven't been able to go back to my other job since I don't have a vehicle. Also I have racked up close to 300 dollars on Lyft rides, plus 150 to have my totaled car taken home and have my girlfriend leave work to drive 30 minutes to get me and take me to the ER. Also missed one of my best friends birthday parties the day after the accident and haven't been able to go back running or working out since the accident. I'm debating on hiring an attorney but resistant since my medical injuries were not severe. Also I have no idea how much they will pay out for the vehicle and online says 2000-7000 just sucks cause I can't find another car like it and not to mention I just spent 600 plus dollars on parts for the car.
If anyone has had this similar experience what did you do, did you take the initial offer, negotiate with the insurance company or go through an attorney. I greatly appreciate anyones advice and input.
Also if anyone has a 2001-2006 Honda CR-V for sale that's what I will be looking for once this is settled.
Aetna - We opted out of Employer Medical insurance but insurance carrier says its still active?
My dad just went through open enrollment and he opted out of employer Medical insurance since he is starting Medicare as of today (he used to have the Medical insurance but the increase in price made Medicare a better choice). He only signed up for dental and vision. I called his insurance company (aetna) just to double check and they say that it shows he has all three: medical, dental, and vision. I told them we didn't sign up for it so they told me to contact our employer so they can update the information. My dad spoke to someone in HR who says that there might be a delay since today is the first of the month and the first day of the insurance taking place after open enrollment.
Does this sound correct? Should i give it time? Just trying to make sure everything gets updated correctly especially since my dad signed up for Medicare B with special enrollment (qualifying life event of losing employer insurance so that he doesn't pay a penalty for signing up after 65).
USAA - USAA car insurance problems
Basically was hit by one of their insurer. They never paid for an extension for the rental, I’m trying to get it to me but now my adjuster has been changed and never got back to me. Did a dismissed claim and it’s been 3 weeks now and I never got anything back.
For the rental, they’ve been trying to wire but never went through. Now the other adjuster has to call me and never has in 4 business days. Is USAA this terrible
Aetna - 6000 dollar er bill after insurance
I’m going to lose my mind. I feel like I’m going to have a panic attack. I have Aetna, yet I still owe $6000 on an er visit after I had complications with my gallbladder surgery. I haven’t even gotten the bill for my surgery yet. I literally cannot afford this. Insurance is through my work and I didn’t have a choice. My deductible is 6000 and yeah I’ve MET that now, but I still can’t afford $6000!!! Why is health insurance in the us so bad. I’m literally going to cry
Is there ANYTHING I can do to lower my bill? I called the hospital and they couldn’t do anything to help
Progressive - "Progressive" filed accident claim without consent, concerned about insurance rate impact
Seeking advice. I had an accident very recently where the other car hit my car while doing improper lane change. Even the police said by seeing the dash cam video of my car that the other person was at fault, I called my insurance company in order to report the accident but they filed it as a claim without confirming with me first. Even though I told them I don't want to use my collision coverage as the accident was not my fault, they still filed a claim without confirming with me first. The claim was closed next day without any pay as they suggested to contact the other person's insurance because I am not at fault. Now I am afraid that this claim will increase my insurance rate from now on, what should I do now? How much it might increase? Is there any way to remove it from the record? Any kind of suggestions will be appreciated.
UnitedHealthcare - Copay Accumulator Program
I have read some prior threads for this but they are from a year ago and I'm curious if there have been any changes.
Background:
I have had UHC and used Optum for my specialty pharmacy for years. My specialty medication is a biologic with no generic equivalent. The manufacturer provides me with both a copay card and a payment card. My deductible has consistently been met in January every year using the payment card, and then the copay card picks up the copay for each month for the rest of the year.
Situation:
This year, the manufacturer payment card was processed as usual and applied towards my deductible, however, they went back a few weeks later and reversed it from my deductible. When I called them, they said nothing has changed and the payment card, as a form of manufacturer assistance, cannot be applied towards my deductible, despite that having always been the case.
Based on what I have read about an HHS ruling, they are required to apply this towards my deductible as there is not a generic available. I filed an appeal and was denied. My employer plan is likely self funded, but from what I have read, that should not matter. Has anyone gotten a resolution to this issue?
homeowners insurance - In limbo with dog bite lawsuit.....
Location: Philly, Pa
Any ideas???
Back in July our dog bit our neighbor. One of the kids let the dog out, and he bit them. We knew from the jump we were going to get sued. We got a lawyer when we received a letter from theirs. They wanted our homeowners insurance info. Welp..... come to find out, ours doesn't cover animal injuries or damage. So, after a month or 2, they asked if we wanted to just settle out of court. Of course we did. They came at us with a settlement. We weren't able to get the full amount but came back to them with a lump sum right away then asked to make 2 monthly payments to settle the rest. After weeks, they declined it and we received a letter from a new attorney asking for our homeowners insurance. Ummm... we already told them we didn't have coverage. So, our lawyer was going to get with them, we paid him another retainer (ughhhh), and he told us there was nothing to do as of now until he hears something. He said he would get back to us. It's been 2 months and still have not heard anything.
What is going on???? Like we were going give them exactly what they wanted. They were just playing with us I guess and now we just wait???
Any ideas on why the wait game? I just want this over with. And just in case you all want to know, we are not made of money. We have 2 kids in college and 2 little kids. We live pay check to pay check and had to get a loan to pay the lawyer and that settlement they first asked for.
It was a totally misfortunate accident, we were devastated for them, and are deeply sorry. We are good people with a good family.
Thanks
American Express - Warning about Amex "Pay over time" feature
I had some large expenses come up that I couldn't afford, so I used the "Plan it" feature on my platinum card. Basically, you pay a fee, and then Amex lets you make installment payments on the charges. What I did not know at the time is that you pay interest on these payments in addition to the fees! The fees themselves were a couple hundred bucks, and I picked a 6 month payment plan under the assumption that I was paying the fees instead of interest. Am I overlooking something, or is the payment plan completely useless? I would have just carried the balance if I'd known what I was actually signing up for
Edit: I confirmed with amex that I am using the "plan it" feature and not "Pay over time" so I shouldn't be paying interest, but because I have carried a balance that isn't part of the payment plan, I'm being charged interest on both. This feels pretty scummy and deceptive
Chase - Am I Eligible for Chase $900 Bonus?
I originally signed up for the Chase $900 bonus approximately 18 months ago, but didn't end up depositing any money into either the checking or savings accounts (ended up not having enough liquidity at the time due to unexpected events).
They ended up closing both accounts after 30 days with a $0 balance on both. I confirmed this with a Chase representative on the phone. However, he claimed I was not eligible even though I would appear to technically meet the eligibility criteria (account not closed in the last 90 days; no accounts closed with negative balance in the last 3 years; only allowed to receive one new checking and one new savings account opening bonus every two years from the last coupon enrollment date and only one bonus per account). He claimed that I had closed my account too recently, even though the plain text of the offer would seem to suggest otherwise.
Has anyone had any experience with a situation like this?
Is there something else I'm missing here as to why I might not be eligible?
Will Chase let me know whether I am eligible or not when I open the accounts? Or do I only find out when I end up receiving (or not receiving) the bonuses?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
