Pets Best - Slow customer service, dishonest practices, deny legitimate claims. Avoid at all costs.
I am writing this review to warn other pet owners. We purchased a top-tier, unlimited-benefit plan from Pets Best, believing we were doing the responsible thing for our dog. When she needed a necessary $6,500 surgery, our claim was denied.
The denial was based on a "pre-existing condition" from a minor, completely resolved skin issue that occurred in another country over two years (29 months) before our policy even started. We appealed, providing clear evidence that the two issues were unrelated. Most importantly, we submitted a formal letter from our board-certified veterinary surgeon who explicitly stated that the conditions were "clinically distinct" and that the new problem was triggered by environmental factors after our policy was in effect.
Pets Best ignored the specialist's expert medical opinion and upheld their denial through two separate appeals.
If you are looking for an insurance company that will stand by you, look elsewhere. Pets Best has shown that they will use any loophole in their policy to deny a legitimate claim, even when faced with overwhelming medical evidence to the contrary. They do not operate in good faith. We have since canceled our policy and strongly advise other pet owners to avoid this company.
Pets Best - 80% increase with no claims
PetsBest just raised my insurance by 80% when I had no claims in over two years! This is outrageous, and may be related to the fact it was sold to another company last year, so we can expect more denied claims as they try to increase profits.
If you have a claim, they will never pre-approve it. Their tactic is "submit and then we'll see", so if they deny it, you will have to spend thousands out of pocket. Only had one claim about three or four years ago, and this was very unnerving.
This 80% increase from one year to the next is the last straw. I cannot trust they won't keep doing the same.
As it tends to happen, their support team was of no help.

Pets Best - Poliy Renewal Questions
This was my 2nd phone call to Pets Best to discuss options for my policy renewal. I spoke to the same person both times. Although she did answer my questions, she did not seem at all friendly and did not have very good PR/communication skills. Chewy customer service is the BEST. Whenever I call they make me feel appreciated as a customer.

My favorite old mixed terrier with a lot of anxiety had a knee that was bleeding and he doesn’t like you to touch his feet couldn’t get a hold of his vet so I had to take him to an ER where they had to sedate him in order to examine him. Complete nail avulsion. Ughh submitted my claim to pets best insurance within less than two weeks I had my reimbursement..fast painless process, highly recommend for your Pet Insurance!

Had PetsBest for one year. Filed first claim regarding fracture tooth and my pup needed to have extraction due to infection. They raised the monthly rate and denied claim! I called and CANCELLED. They don't follow their own coverage.

They took a month to deny my claim for simple flea treatment. They never tried to contact me or my veterinarian
Pets Best - Service needs improvement
Title says it all. The service needs improvement. I submitted 3 claims the same day. 1 was taken care of, but the other 2 haven't been touched. I try and chat in, they just reply with scripted language "were sorry, claims can take up to 25days to process"... blah blah blah.. YET when Pests Best wants their money, they will get rite on it and collect it promptly.. Why shouldn't the customer receive the same prompt service? Oh, I know why, they don't want to pay out money, they only want to receive it.. figures this is why insurance companies get a bad reputation. Sneaky tactics..
