Pets Best - I am not being reimbursed as often as I hoped
I was disappointed this time about an ear infection not being covered as a illness. It was not a condition for which she had been previously treated so I believed it would be covered. It was discovered at her annual checkup but was a new illness.

I filed my first claim after 2 years of coverage.
There is a LONG delay in receiving reimbursement and website is cumbersome and confusing.
I keep receiving emails ‘apologizing for the delay’ but no explanation about why it’s taking so long.

Pets Best - Bummed at coverage
Unfortunately, I was forced to switch to Pet’s Best after the old insurance I had for 7+ years kept rising. As soon as I did, my poor dog started to have issues and Pet’s Best found every reason not to cover things. Where I was trying to save $, Pet’s Best has cost me more.

Pets Best - Pets Best - Incidental Finding during Waiting Period
Hi everyone!
We went with Pets Best for our kittens’ insurance, which starts for illness coverage on 8/21/25. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork was done last week in preparation for one of our kittens’ neuter scheduled on the 18th. The results came back a bit all over the place, which the vet wasn’t concerned by as he said it could be due to him being so young. However, the vet mentioned his T4 is elevated, which could suggest juvenile hyperthyroidism. We’ll need to retest in six months to see if it normalizes.
My question is: since this was found before the waiting period for illness coverage ended, and there are no symptoms, no official diagnosis, and no specific treatment or medical advice given yet, do you think Pets Best will consider this a pre-existing condition? A bit stressed that if it does come back as high in 6 months, something that seems like it may be a very expensive lifelong condition is going to be automatically excluded due to an incidental finding 😅
Pets Best - Pets Best premium increase. New policy with same company is 50% less. Why not submit new application?
Pets Best insurance premium increased 50% last month. Premium initially doubled when I moved from SC to NC 3 yrs ago then this additional 50%.
Current coverage;
- accident/illness - Unlimited, 90% reimbursement, $250 deductible.
-No well care. Annual premiums are only about $20 less than annual WellCare visit charge.
Ran a new quote online from same company. It is 50% of new premium (so less than premium before last month’s increase). Makes no sense.
1 dog - Doxy long-hair - 5 yrs old. Insurance with Pets Best since I got him at 6-8 weeks old. He’s generally healthy but I carry insurance because of typical issues a doxy can develop as they age.
The only vet visits he’s had outside of well care:
(1) Urgent care visit & call to poison control in 2022 after he got into medication (claim was made and they paid around $50).
(2) An out of town visit to vet when he had Gastro issues (throwing up/diarrhea) and wasn’t eating. Cause unknown. Given a round of antibiotics and no more issues. This vet isn’t on his records and I didn’t file a claim since it was under my deductible.
My questions:
(1) Outside of taking a chance that something happens during the waiting period of a new policy, is there any reason I shouldn’t apply for a new policy to get the lower premium?
(2) Will the prior poison visit be considered existing condition if there is another event? He was fine and hadn’t ingested anything harmful. They just watched him for a couple hours.
(3) Is the insurance company likely to pick up the out of town gastro visit and consider any future gastro issues an existing condition since I didn’t claim?
Thanks in advance for input.
Pets Best - Pets best. I am very angry
So this may slightly be my fault but I need to vent and need options. I have had pets best for 2 years. My golden retriever blew her ACL and I took her to a surgeon and they confirmed it. The entire process took 5 months. I called pets best to see how to proceed, they said to pay the bill and then send everything to them. So I did.
They just came back and said that they will not reimburse me because I don’t wait 6 months to have the surgery. WTF!!! and why would you not tell me when I called to ask how to proceed?!?
Am I just out of luck? Or do you think that this is worth fighting? I am out $7k now. This is why I had pet insurance in the first place!!!
Pets Best - If your Pets Best claims are being denied
I’ve received a series of new and confusing EOBs denying claims I usually had had no problem getting approved quickly before. Pets Best informed me on the phone that they have a new automated system that some claims get filtered into that is causing some claims to be incorrectly denied. Wanted to update and post here because their customer service truly is so helpful and kind, and if you call them they will fix your issues by flagging your denials for manual review.
Pets Best Insurance - Puppy Got Sick Right After Adoption—Pet Insurance Denied My Claim. Any Advice?
Hey everyone,
We recently adopted a puppy from a rescue center, and he’s been such a sweet little guy. On the same day we brought him home, we also signed up for pet insurance with Pets Best Insurance because I read a lot of good reviews.
Unfortunately, just about five days later, he got really sick and was diagnosed with puppy strangles. He’s been on corticosteroids for the past three weeks now, and we’ve had multiple vet visits—for treatment, vaccinations, and other related care. So far, I’ve paid around $1,000 out of pocket.
I submitted a claim to the insurance company, but they rejected it, saying it falls within the waiting period. I get that there’s a waiting period, but we had no idea he was going to get sick when we signed up for the policy.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Is there any way to appeal or get around the waiting period issue?
Also, if I switch to another insurance provider now, will this count as a pre-existing condition, and will they refuse to cover anything related to this illness?
Appreciate any advice or shared experiences—just trying to navigate this unexpected situation the best I can.
Thanks!
