Progressive - Was in a car accident, my insurance paid for the damages, then the other parties insurance sent a check
I was rear-ended in late January by a driver insured by Maryland Auto Insurance. I filed a claim with my insurance company (Progressive) who deemed that the other party was liable for damages. I reached out to both the other insured and MD Auto Insurance, and was given the run around for over a month— with MD Auto Insurance saying that their insured had not been returning their calls and the other party stating that MD Auto Insurance was not answering their calls. Progressive got involved and tried to call MD Auto Insurance 2x after I basically begged them to, and they weren’t able to reach them and gave up.
I consulted some lawyers online to see if I had a case, and they all recommended using my insurance (i.e. paying my $750 deductible for the damages, Progressive paying the rest and having Progressive attempt to get my money back through subrogation). I spoke with Progressive who said that not all subrogation attempts are successful, and that they most often aren’t… meaning that my desuctible would just be lost completely.
I ended up going that route because the damage on my car was such an eye sore. I paid $750 and Progrssive ended up paying $761 (total cost of repair was ~$1,500. The repairs were completely last week. Today, I received an ~$1,800 check from MD Auto Insurance for the damages to my car. They did not call me at all to accept liability or tell me that they were mailing a check. So now, I have an $1,800 check to cover the damages though the car has already been fixed and I have paid my deductible.
Should I tell Progressive about this check or should I just cash it without telling them? To be honest, Progressive really pissed me off when they wouldn’t assist me in talking to MD Auto… they called twice and gave up so easily while I called multiple times a day for weeks. I’m afraid however that in the subrogation process, MD Auto Insurance will tell Progressive and then MD Auto will adjust the amount (they estimated $1,800 in damages, but the repair was actually $1,500), and I will lost that extra $300. Other possibility is that the subrogation process will fail because MD Auto rarely answers the phone and has such a long and terrible phone system, and Progressive would close the case and I would be allowed to keep the money in total.
What should I do?
TLDR: I was rear ended, other party gave me the run around to avoid liability, my insurance paid (after I paid a $750 deductible), and I just received a check from the other parties insurance. Do I let my insurance know?
Progressive - Car totaled after 29 days.
Me and my girlfriend purchased a 2020 Rav 4 like a week or so before Christmas. We got GAP insurance and got Progressive insurance that next day or so. She and 2 others drivers were hit by an 18 wheeler less then a month later back in January while they were parked at stop light. The 18wheeler driver was in the CDL drivers ed program at a local community college and didn’t swing wide enough and ended up dragging our RAV4 and 2 other cars. And of course we got the worse of the damages and ended up getting totaled.
We put $3K down as a down payment and paid the 1st car note like a week early. After several weeks of back and forth and getting police report correcting and etc, we are stuck without a car now. Progressive paid out enough to pay off the car and had like $380 leftover for us. Our adjustor said they didn’t need to use GAP or it wouldn’t help. Is that correct?
Cause even after we can the deductible and rental reimbursements back, it’s still not enough compared to what we put in. And all that has to go into subjugation. And then he said all that won’t be processed till and medical/bodily harm stuff is settled and they will do all of it at once. I guess we are just still shocked and disappointed cause basically got screwed by an unfortunate event. But I just knew the GAP would get us back in something else. Any suggestions or corrections?
Progressive - I was invovled in a car accident and need some advice
My car was involved in an accident around July 4th, 2024.
A little bit of backstory about the car. I had purchased a car used at the end of December for about $12k in cash. It felt like a solid car to drive, was well within its KBB value, and was signed off by a mechanic before its purchase. I needed a car for work since I had been reprimanded by my boss for not returning to the office when our Return to Office mandate was in place. I was eventually laid off for being out of compliance with this mandate a month later.
Below is the account of the incident from my sister, who was driving during the time of the accident:
* 7:15 pm - Leave the house to go to Whole Foods.
* 7:50 pm - Gets pulled over by a police officer for having the taillights out. The two side tail lights were out, but the top one was still working. The officer mentions this to her and says that she should go home before it gets too dark.
* 7:51 pm - Makes a stop at Whole Foods since she was a minute away
* 8:38 pm - Leaves Whole Foods
* 8:45 pm - He had to make an emergency stop for a flock of geese and gets rear-ended. She mentioned that she was able to stop, and there were other drivers around here who were also able to stop, but the person behind > her most likely wasn't paying attention.
* 8:47 pm - The police were called onto the scene.
* 9:00 pm - My brother arrives to pick up my sister, and my car was towed to a lot.
I was not able to get any information from the police department on the stop that was made before that night. When I tried to file a claim through my insurance (Progressive), my claims specialist mentioned that there was nothing that they could do since I only had accident coverage, not collision. However, they felt that the other party was completely liable for the accident. From the accident report, I was able to get ahold of the other party's claims specialist (Allstate). They had mentioned that their party already filed a claim and that they would be reaching out to the driver for an account of what happened that night; my sister mentioned everything that I had written above. The specialist called back the following day, stating that the case would be going to arbitration and that I would be notified by mail on the resolution. She also mentioned that I could supply any information about the car to help my case. I provided some pictures of the car as well as the still functioning top taillight. I called back around the end of August to see if anything had been settled, but they again mentioned that I would be contacted by mail when a resolution had been reached. Fast forward to December of 2024, and I still hadn't received anything in the mail. Since I lost my job in February and was struggling to find work, I had to terminate my lease at my current apartment. And since I would be moving back to my childhood home, I wanted to make sure that the letter that I would be receiving was going to the right place. When I contacted the other party's specialist, they mentioned that not only was the case primarily for their party's damages, but it was also thrown out in September. They also let me know they would only be willing to cover 50% of the damages to my vehicle since my sister was aware that the car had 1/3 working taillights.
With this in mind, I decided to call a few collision specialists in the area to get an estimate of the damages. Of the few places that I reached out to, only one would give me some information without going through insurance; that of which they mentionedd it would be anestimatedd $8k - $14k in repairs.
Considering what I paid for that car, I'm not too sure what to do. I feel that the only thing that I can do now is try and see what I can get back from the scrapyard. Also, this is the first vehicle that I've ever owned, so I'm new to insurance and accidents as a whole. I also still don't have a job at the moment, so it probably wouldn't be in my best interests to try and spend $4-7k in repairs. The car is at my house for the time being, but I'd rather do something with it sooner than later.
Typing this out makes me realize how terrible the decisions that were made have been up until this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Progressive - Proving Headlights Weren't On
US Florida. I was involved in a car crash recently and don't know what to do. What happened was that I was exiting a fast food drive thru late at night. The drive thru exits onto 4-lane divided road and there is a stop sign controlling the intersection. I stopped at the stop sign and looked down the road to see if it was clear. I saw no oncoming traffic, so I turned right into the left lane as I was intending on taking a U turn at the next available place which is fairly close to where I entered the road. (Yes, I know this is illegal. I got a ticket for this and I know I won't be getting out of it.) As I turned into the left lane, I collided with another driver who was driving in the left lane. I did not see this other vehicle whatsoever even though I looked before I entered the road. Damage to both vehicles was minimal and neither of us were injured. We were able to move to a nearby parking lot before the police were called to the scene and we exchanged information. At the time I was freaking out about the whole situation and not thinking clearly and only remized later that the other person's headlights obviously weren't on, otherwise I 100% would have seen them. I tried emailing my insurance company (Progressive) that was handling the case, but never got any response. There are traffic cameras at the nearby major intersection as well as security cameras from nearby businesses that I believe would be able to help, but I can't get any footage from them. I asked in person at the businesses and called the police department and they all told me insurance would have to handle it. So what do I do? Do I have to get a lawyer? Is it even worth it to do so?
Progressive Insurance - Progressive Insurance question
Hoping someone could possibly shed a little light on my situation. My daughter wrecked her car in front of our house on March 2nd. On March 5th Progressive sent the tow truck to retrieve the vehicle which they towed to an IAA auction yard to have it appraised. The appraiser went on the 7th. I spoke with someone from progressive on the 8th who needed to verify a few things. She said something about it being a total loss which at that time I didn’t know, which apparently she thought I had already been contacted. I told her I hadn’t so she said well I’ll just go over it real quick even though this isn’t my department. She said that it was a deemed a total loss and they valued my car at $8200 something (I don’t really remember the exact number) Little lower than I expected but okay. Anyway I logged into the app to check the status of the claim and I do see it’s a total loss but the only thing I see is the appraisers repair estimate for $8289 and the deduction for the deductible. Is that what they are actually valuing the car at? Or is that simply a repair estimate? We still owe on the car so I’m trying to plan accordingly. I’ve contacted our adjuster but have left messages with no return call as of yet.
Progressive - Follow up on out of state student car insurance
So, in December my son took one of our cars from Florida to Virginia for university. VA required limits are much higher than in FL and changing the limits, plus garaging the car in VA, raised our Progressive policy to almost 3 times it's cost.
Instead, it was suggested by the insurer we get a different policy for the car in VA. And we did so, through Geico.
Now we have 1 policy in VA for my son and I and 1 car. One policy in FL for my son and I and the other car.
Today, I received a notice from the state of FL that they are going to cancel my registration because the Cadillac (car in VA under Geico policy) doesn't have insurance, according to their records). Sigh.
Will FL accept the VA policy? I can't really register the car in VA since I don't live there and the car is in my name. And both the kid and I have FL licenses because he is a student, so his residence is still FL.
Is the only solution to pay 3 times the amount?
Progressive - Progressive already has my wage verification, but keeps calling my employer for more information? I don't know why but it sounds sus.
My hip was broken in 3 spots after a pedestrian vs vehicle accident. I'm working with an attorney who has been talking with Progressive (the driver's insurance). They asked for information regarding my employment to verify wages. I have two jobs. 1 WFH, the other is more physical. I was able to return to the WFH job quickly thanks to a lot of pain meds. Anyway, my employer filled out the paperwork they needed, I sent it to my attorney who passed it over to Progressive. They still called my WFH job, needing to speak with my employer. Why? What more do they need to verify? Is this normal?
Progressive - Opened a car accident claim 9 months ago & haven't received an offer from my insurance, what should i do?
Sorry this is a long story
Late May 2024, my husband was rear-ended, his car totaled. We have full coverage, so we opened a claim with our insurance, the same evening as the accident. Police came to take report, which they found the other driver at fault. They included that my husband was injured but refused an ambulance. We went to urgent care the next morning and he was diagnosed with a concussion and told to not work or drive for a few days. The other driver claimed to have the same insurance company, but they were actually specifically written off the policy (some kid driving his dad's truck) so he's technically uninsured.
We spoke to the insurance agent many times because we've never been in an accident and didn't know what to do or expect. We were compensated for the totaled car and mentioned we'd like pain & suffering to cover the missed days of work & such. And then we just left it alone, I assumed they would investigate and make an offer that would at least cover the missed work.
After about 3 months, we got a notice that a new insurance agent was taking over. We explained that my husband had lingering brain fog from the concussion and had follow-ups with his doctor regarding it. Agent#2 sent an affidavit form to sign that we had no other insurance & medical release form for my husband to fill out. We had the paperwork signed & notarized, and both sent it by mail with the business return envelope given and uploaded it via a special link sent by the agent. Again, didn't hear anything for months. I wrote an email to ask if there would be a discussion about a settlement, again ghosted.
Another few months pass and we've been transferred to a new agent. She wants to have a conversation, but at this point we're a bit fed up with all these conversations leading to nowhere. I asked if we could communicate by email so that there would be a record and heard nothing until today, when Agent#3 asked me to fill out the affidavit again.
It's now been 9.5 months. I'm concerned about the length of time being taken to investigate my claim. I've answered every question I've been asked, signed every form. I've had 3 different agents. In each case when I ask about a settlement or offer, I get ghosted and then eventually passed along to the next person. I'm not quite sure what more is needed. I had many conversations with the first agent. Each time I emphasized, I'm new to being in a car accident, I don't know what's the norm, so now I'm beginning to feel like I'm being taken advantage of, like there is some bad faith going on with Progressive.
I must say, I was pretty upset to see them ask for a form I've already sent months ago. Are we starting over again? I don't understand.
I didn't get a personal injury attorney because this sub says you don't need one. What are we missing here?
Progressive - Leased Car. 24F NYS. Insurance is $500?? Any other places to shop?
Hi all. I recently leased a new car because the used car market was so atrocious in my area it was cheaper to go this route (context: they want full coverage so it's more expensive than the baseline cheapest policy I can otherwise get in NYS, the insurance checks on the used cars I found were comparable). My monthly rate is 500$/month w/ Progressive. Which is way more than the damn car.
I'm a new driver, female, 24 (FML). I understand being young and new is whatever but 500$?? This was the cheapest my agent could find but I really want to shop elsewhere and look around before the next insurance renewal rolls up.
Progressive - How messed up am I?
Wife and I started a new policy being as ours ended with our previous company and we were under the impression. Everything was good. We were waiting for them to pull the payment we had our ID insurance card sent to us. We were even using their snapshot app during that time, my wife back into the neighbors vehicle, which was parked illegally And the door luckily my neighbor super cool about it but a few days after that happened progressive recanted the policy and I am worried I’m gonna have to pay out cash is what it is. I just wanna know what my options are and if progressive can be held to pay for the damages, even if they recounted their policy, after the fact
