Don’t waste your money—look at Healthy Paws. They have massive premium increases (50% or more in a year). They tell you they cover 90% with a $200 deductible, but they also have a ton of exclusions, including the office visit. How many times have I submitted $650 worth of receipts, and each time they reimburse around $130? I pay $210 a month vs. $53 with Healthy Paws. **** To your response: At this point, there’s not much to discuss. Your monthly premium is significantly higher—$210 compared to $53 with Healthy Paws—and you only cover 20% of the bill. There are reasons and results and no one cares about the reasons.

Once again, Trupanion has rejected a legitimate claim within minutes of me submitting it. They never just pay a legitimate claim. They make you jump through hoops. They wear you down with denials. It feels like they want you to just give up. I submitted my claim with an itemized invoice provided by my vet, along with complete chart notes. Within minutes I received a denial stating that I needed to submit a claim form with an itemized invoice. They clearly did not even look at my submission. I called the supervisor that reached out to me last time I left an unfavorable (truthful) review, and left a message. It has been 4 days now since I left a message (6 days since the denial), and no one has gotten back to me. The last time they denied a claim and I left a review, the same supervisor did end up getting me the money I was owed, but it takes an act of Congress to get claims paid. I am a cancer patient, recently had a heart attack, and it is not only unprofessional to treat people the way Trupanion does, it is morally reprehensible. People have better things to do than to pay years of premiums, and then have to chase down the insurance company to get them to pay legitimate claims.

I signed up for Trupanion overnight.. The next day I called my vets office of 15 years and asked if it was a recommended insurance, my vets response was " Trupanion used to be good, not so much anymore..the recommended insurance is PetsBest". Was disappointed to hear. Didnt mind the higher premiums but when a vet gives you feedback like this, its not good.

They cover nothing! My dog has Lyme disease and I was declined the testing

I bought this pet insurance when my puppy was about 13 weeks w no pre-existing conditions. One year later, that’s still true. Although the premium was almost double comparable insurers, it seemed worth it, because the TRUPANION PROMISE is your rate will never increase with the dog’s age!! Now for the BAIT & SWITCH!! After 1 year, my pet insurance jumped from $114/mo (pretty expensive!) to $148/ mo! A 30% INCREASE AFTER ONE YEAR! When I called, the rep explained that rates still increase each year, just not because of the dog’s age. 30%? The US inflation rate in that time increased 1.9%. Trupanion told me that “possible yearly increases” are explained in the contract - true, but the 30% increase is 15X the US inflation rate. The original sales rep I signed on with NEVER indicated that ANY price increase was possible! BUYER BEWARE!!

Be aware that this does not function like normal insurance. EVERY SINGLE part of their body or ailment requires a separate deductible. Consultations are never covered. I paid for this insurance for 11.5 years with zero claims. When my dog finally got arthritis, I have had $5000 in vet bills this year, but because they break out all the body parts separately, you will have a separate $1000 deductible for each body part. They will also make tons of reasons not to cover conditions. For instance, if you don't get your dog's teeth cleaned every year, they won't cover anything in the mouth. Trupanion is a scam. Put your money in a bank account for when something happens. You will be better prepared to handle their medical expenses. If they don't need it, you have an extra investment account.

Premium almost doubled moving from Hawaii to California. None of our recent trips are covered. You need to add basic pet visits to it. Personally wouldn’t go through them after my experience. I could only imagine if my pet has to do a major procedure like some of these owners. Go elsewhere. Waiting for a cookie cutter response from their team for this.

My cat is barely over 1 years old. I picked her up from the breeder when she was 3 months old in May of 2024. Now here in May of 2025 trupanion is raising my pets rate from $54 to $84 a month and we have never filled a claim and the cat has a perfect bill of health. They raised my premium by 56%. That is absurd. I immediately called and canceled because that is straight up a scam.

Not one claim has been approved in 8 years. We have paid over $15,000 in premiums and only denial. Total rip off.
