Trupanion - Don't be fooled by no price increase wording
I just read a lot of reviews and there is a trend I will add to. I have had the insurance for 11 months for a 3 year old dog with no claims or pre-existing conditions. I was just notified of a 16% increase. They play games with the wording not increase for the age of your dog - but if you read the reviews they do them pretty much every year based on their "formula" I have not seen anyones go down based on their "Formula". So not sure if they are any good but they will always raise your rates, so don't be fooled by the wording they present. Here is the wording used to confuse people "No age-based annual price rises"
Trupanion Canada - Total scam
I've submitted a few claims for different issues over the past 5 years and every claim has been denied. The latest claim was for dental work and their reason for denying the claim was that he didn't have a dental exam in the year prior to enrolling so they determine it to be a pre-existing condition. I enrolled him with Trupanion as a puppy when we picked him up, so it's impossible for him to have had a dental exam in the year prior to enrolling. This "insurance" is a complete scam.
Trupanion - Trupanion is associating a preexisting…
Trupanion is associating a preexisting right leg issue with the left leg which was never an issue with my cat.
A vet misdiagnosed my cats right leg. Three other vets had a different diagnosis. Trupanion will not go off most recent diagnosis. The manager that reached out to me was rude and not helpful. I have been told to report to my States Department of Insurance and contact an attorney. If their "customer service management" wants to reach out to you, it may be more stress as the one I had was awful.
Trupanion - One Star is Too Generous — Trupanion Failed Us Completely
We trusted Trupanion to be there when our dog Lola needed them most. Instead, they blindsided us with a cruel bait-and-switch.
Last year, Lola had two masses removed. Trupanion applied a single $500 per-condition deductible — which we paid — and covered the rest. We assumed, reasonably, that we had met the deductible for that condition going forward. But when Lola needed surgery again this year to remove multiple additional masses, Trupanion changed the game. Suddenly, each mass was a separate condition, each requiring its own $500 deductible — five growths, five deductibles. $2500 out of pocket.
That is not pet insurance. That is predatory fine print.
Their policy language is intentionally vague, allowing them to redefine what counts as a “condition” whenever it benefits them financially. And they know exactly what they’re doing — exploiting people in crisis who are trying to save their pets. This isn't just a paperwork issue. This is real financial harm, emotional distress, and broken trust.
On top of it all, watching Lola suffer while we scrambled to figure out how to pay for necessary surgery shattered us. Seeing how upset this made both Lola’s GB and the Feeder Lady? Unforgivable.
If you’re a pet parent considering Trupanion: read the fine print, then run the other way. Don’t wait until your dog is under anesthesia to find out you’ve been deceived.
Trupanion - EXPENSIVE!
Trupanion is very, very expensive, and the premiums keep going up for no reason.
Trupanion - Erroneous diagnoses for my claims
My claims form apparently when through some automated reviewing came up with a totally erroneous conclusion. Aspen went in for hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and you came up with 3 diagnoses: diarrhea, motion sickness & uveitis. Where in the world did you come up with those other 2 diagnoses?? there is no mention of either problem in the records. Then you took off $250 for each diagnosis leaving me with a huge deficit to pay. This was not the first time this happened either--once before you did the same thing--making up diagnosis that was not true. A top notch insurance system should not be working so inefficiently Please do a better job
Trupanion - Nothing is covered.
Every time I submit something, they tell me that it’s not covered. I’ve been spending money on this insurance for so many years, and it’s just been $$ down the drain while I pay full price at the vet.
Trupanion Canada - Fast, quick, but with limitations on coverage
Switched from Pet Secure when I got my new kitten, the process was quick and easy. after the first year they increased the payment from 30 - 40 ish, that doesn’t impress me let’s hope it’s a once in a while thing.
Got a second kitten added last week, again quick and easy.
BE WARNED
they DO NOT cover any Vaccination, wellness visits, or any preventive testing, like a snap test for example. They will only cover something if your cat is showing ‘signs’ of an illness. I was on an all inclusive plan with Pet Secure but Trupanion doesn’t offer any other plan.
In summary, while giục and easy they are not cheaper despite what they say than other companies out there so their marketing about shop local is all well and good, except the coverage is lacking with no option to pick a ‘better’ plan with wellness checks covered.
I’m of the mindset that preventative tests and vaccines would be covered as to eliminate half the things a cat can catch by vaccinating but they would rather you cat get sick and the. they will cover the costs of that preventative illness (feline cancer for example)….doesnt make sense to me.
Trupanion - Hospital coverage was great however
Hospital coverage was great however, the vet hospital asked me to make a decision about my pet from a price range which was outrageous BEFORE the Trupanion insurance coverage was applied. I don’t understand why they can’t run it thru for coverage and tell you exactly how much they’re going to charge you AFTER the insurance pays upfront so you can make a proper decision for your pet!!! As you checkout it literally goes thru within 1 minute. Odds are you’re going to get your pet the full treatment it needs once you realize that AFTER the insurance goes thru the price isn’t quite as horrific! It’s not like human insurance that can take months to shake out. It’s just not a good way to make a proper decision for your pet’s care.
Then my other complaint is that the vet that convinced me to sign up for Trupanion in the first place doesn’t even submit the claim at all.. our regular vet. You have to do that yourself! Not to mention, then basic vet care doesn’t even get covered so it’s only for vet emergencies. In my opinion for paying $982/per year, it should cover more than just emergency visits. (Which hopefully only occur once in your dog’s lifetime whereas annual visits occur annually!!!) Better than nothing but come on!!!
