Half of my healthy 1 year old dog's body systems are not covered because she burped a few times as a puppy. Because occasional burping was noted in her medical record, ALL gastrointestinal and respiratory concerns will not covered for the entirety of her life. Insurance companies will nitpick for any opportunity possible to deny coverage; care of the pet and client is never a concern. As a veterinary professional, I am extremely disappointed in Trupanion.

We were Trupanion customers for 8 years and paid thousands of dollars without ever making a claim. However, when our credit card expired (as they do, after 8 years!!) and we missed a few payments they cancelled our $155 monthly plan and wanted 2.5x more ($380/mo) to reactivate it! To their credit, they did a good job trying to reach out before the cancellation, but unfortunately the email on file was also outdated. When I contacted customer service their "hands were tied" and the reps had no ability to customize my new quote to match my old payment. I would have been okay with a small rise in payment as I didn't catch the lack of payment fast enough, but a 250% increase is just insane. Buyer Beware: You can NOT set it and forget it with this company - dogs live a long time and they will cancel you and charge you an exorbitant amount if you want to continue with their services!

Your IT issues have became unbearable to me as the consumer The app used to be great now it doesn’t work. I have to send my claims now like the 1990s. I am very disappointed that you allowed your IT to fail and makes me question the company.

Premiums going up and service going down. Incoherent denials. Even my vet said she is not happy with trupanion these days.

Our costs have skyrocketed 158% since we started with Trupanion 10 years ago. This is a breach of trust from the agreement we entered into and we are beyond disappointed in this from a financial and ethical standpoint. Edited to add: Our last increase was 38%. I have reached out to them and asked for rationale, in writing, regarding what could possibly cause this drastic increase (especially since it was less than 2 months after, conveniently, our youngest dog entered the "senior dog" age bracket, meaning switching policies and/or insurance carriers would be very costly.) They have not given us any rationale, but routinely reply to public comments asking us to contact their customer care number, which is just an avenue for their "care team" to offer us the option to cancel our policies. I wish I would've known this before I chose them as insurers of our 2 beloved pups.

I wasn’t able to complete my claim online. The person I chatted with said she would send me an online and she would send me a claim form online to fill out and then upload. Luckily, I haven’t had to have any claims, but never mentioned what I then saw after I was frustrated and got off the phone that you needed to update your password if you hadn’t been on the site this year, so all that time and $77 a month was not anybody even mentioning that could’ve been an issue I figured it out myself I’ve said this once before to this organization you’re charging $77 and change a month for 20 month old I mean a 20 pound dog And so I am fact would expect more than that in customer service

The cost of my dogs insurance is now more than my own. You people are ridiculous. $200 a month from what used to be originally around $60 a month. Constantly hiking up the costs. You called it an increase due to the cost in the area but the costs have not changed AT ALL at my vet. This is directly tied to the fact that I now have hit his lifetime deductible for his skin issues and now you actually have to start paying something towards his care so you're balancing that by jacking up the rate. Congratulations on making pet care as shitty as human healthcare. Well done. I'm sure your shareholders will applaud. Update: spoke with your customer service. Nothing has been resolved other than verification of what I already wrote. You cannot justify the recent 30% increase when inflation is less than 4% in my area. This is nothing more than a counterbalance to offset the fact that his deductible has recently been met and now you actually have to live up to your end of the agreement.

My information was entered incorrectly on my initial policy, and the company displayed no goodwill towards rectifying the consequences of their mistake for myself and my kitten 😔 was initially excited to get going but will be forced to explore other options.

In 1 year my pets insurance went from around $48.00to $75.00 and I am sure it’s because we had to use it. It is not practical for my pets insurance to increase that much in 1 year. My other pet’s insurance didn’t increase that much and it’s because we didn’t use it this past year.
