Trupanion - Very disappointed that my dog's care…is "Alternative" and not covered
Very disappointed that my dog's care for her recent diagnosis of cancerous fibroid is not being covered at a holistic vet. The ozone therapy is "alternative" and only covered with an additional rider that needed to be purchased at onset of policy 12 years ago! This falls under "things not covered" Naturopathy, that I should have anticipated needing or knowing that this therapy would fall under this. Ironic thing is that if I had chosen a riskier surgery for my pup- it would have cost thousands more in claims but would have been covered. Make it make sense....??? My premiums started at $30ish/mon and now well over $60/mon in 12 years with no claims and NOW that it's needed... not paying for her therapy that can help her.
Trupanion - We have had your insurance for about 5+…
We have had your insurance for about 5+ years now. We have attempted to submit only three claims: two were denied and one paid for around $300. Our premiums have continued to increase every 6 months even though we have not used your services. I understand the cost of everything is going up BUT I feel like this is absolutely horrible. We started less than $100, now we are almost paying $200/month.
Trupanion - Keeps raising costs
Keeps raising costs
Trupanion - Once again the rates are going up
Good insurance overall but constantly increasing the monthly rates.
I've had them for my Belgian Malinois since he was 16 weeks old he is now three and has never had a claim
The monthly cost has more than doubled since I've gotten it.
Trupanion - Would not recommend
We have had Trupanion insurance for four years and although our claims have been approved, we have received very little reimbursement due to the deductible structure. It’s very disappointing because the monthly charge keeps going up without the benefit of repayment for services. I would not recommend.
Trupanion - It is really hard to change the plan
It is really hard to change the plan. Somehow, we still have one dog on that we thought we dropped and 2 dogs missing we thought we added. It was also really frustrating not to be able to get a refund for Kenza, partly due to coordinating finding any sort of "death certificate". You finally gave up and closed the file, and sent us a refund of most months of the overpayment, but I think not all.
Trupanion - Title: Trupanion Broke Their "Fixed Rate" Promise — Four Rate Hikes in Under 3 Years.
We signed up with Trupanion in December 2022 at $129 a month because they advertised fixed-rate protection. That was the deal and the reason I signed up and agreed to that high price for puppy insurance.
Less than three years later, my premium has jumped to $257 a month after four rate increases. They can spin it however they want, but that's a 100 percent increase on what was supposed to be a fixed rate.
Their explanations keep shifting, and their deductible-per-condition setup is another gotcha buried in fine print. I don't work with companies that say one thing and do another.
I’ll be filing a formal complaint with my state insurance commission, then reporting to the Better Business Bureau. I’ll post updates here and across social media so others can see how Trupanion handles customers who were promised one thing and charged for another.
They're not trustworthy. They're a gotcha company, and I don't have time for that nonsense.
Trupanion - Double Charging for Per Diagnosis Deductible
So, I posted a review about their overinflated pricing and how every year my insurance has gone up by 50% since I've had them for the last 3 years. So, I called them today to discuss my dog's dental procedure, which is partially covered. I had the same procedure done before and paid my deductible, so it should be satisfied, but because I had to increase my deductible to lower the monthly cost due to their inflated increase, I was told that now I have to pay the deductible again. That I have to pay the difference between the last satisfied deductible and the new deductible amount. I satisfied that deductible long before I increased my deductible. I should not have to pay another deductible. I wouldn't have had to raise my deductible in the first place if they didn't increase my insurance rate by 50% year-over-year. They also listed it as a fractured tooth when it was actually enamel hypoplasia, so let's see if they try to make me pay the entire deductible and try to say it's something different because they classified it under the wrong diagnosis in the first place. Also, after my last review, Trupanion responded and asked for my policy number so they could reach out to me, which of course they never did. This is the worst insurance company, and by far the most expensive pet insurance company in the entire United States. Maybe if you live in the country the prices are fine, but if you live in the city, you are being reamed by them. I guess we're being overcharged so that the people that live out of the city can keep their lower rates. Anybody that I referred to them has now left, and after this phone call today I will most likely not be staying with them either. Especially not when I can have a $250 annual deductible, 90% reimbursement, no annual limits, and no extra charge for physical therapy or acupuncture ( I pay an extra $25 a month with trupanion), for $146 a month, which is less than half of what my new rate is, which is $346 a month. And now I'm told I have to pay my deductible again because I had to raise my deductible 6 months after I had a procedure done that satisfied the deductible? I don't even know if that's actually legal, I'm going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau if they charge me that extra $75. My insurance is scheduled to renew and go up in November, so I have until between now and then to figure out where I'm going to go, because at this rate, I'm going to be paying $800 a month in insurance within the next 5 years.
Trupanion - Absolute worst customer service and company ever.
Absolute worst customer service and company ever. I have never left a review before but I can't with this company and want to warn everyone to never use them!!!
Shop anywhere else or just put the $150 they're making you pay into a savings account for your dog/cat. You'll probably end up never using it and then just have a treat for yourself.
Started paying for pet insurance for my dog as a puppy which started at $50. Today, they have upped it to $150 and I have never even used them.
I have given them over $8,500 in the years I have had them and they just up your monthly payment whenever they want and if you want to pay a lower one, they only offer one choice which is, they will make you pay a higher deductible to lower your monthly so it's not really helping at all.
Please please please go anywhere else to get pet insurance or again, just put it into a savings so companies like this can't screw you over.
Trupanion - Good catastrophic insurance but becoming unaffordable.
I have been with this company for almost 10 years. At first it was affordable but now my dog's health insurance costs more than my health insurance. The insurance doesn't help with the office visit cost or cost of diagnosing an issue, just treatment which sometimes is included in the office fee. I would like to take my dog to a specialist but between the cost for the office visit, the $250 issue deductible and the monthly premium I keep paying, I am not sure I can afford to continue this insurance.
