AKC - Reimbursement plans
This is NOT about any specific insurance Co. Regardless of how good a pet insurance Co. is and how well it pays claims, due to the greed of veterinarians who cannot wait a few days for insurance to pay them directly even upon agreement, but would rather let the pet die, run away from any insurance that does not pay immediately on the spot, unless you plan to use it for charges you can afford yourself. For true unexpected emergencies as critical surgeries followed by pertinent in-patient stays/treatments that can't wait, you will be throwing money away even with backup from cards as Care Credit which don't offer the majority as many thousands as are now required upfront, at the clinic.
If vets had a different perspective on the way they look at urgent life-saving treatments and at their patients, this type of insurance would surely work.
Spot - Prompt response but
Prompt response, but it asked for prior info and documents that were not part of the initial claim requirements.
Nationwide - the effective day is 10 days after sign…
the effective day is 10 days after sign up. my dog got into a fight and got a minor punctuation through her ear 3 days after sign up and therefore the insurance won't cover it
Embrace - A scam “insurance” company
Didn’t want to approve a claim for an ear infection because of a skin infection (which was caused by a reaction to new soap) 8 months prior. I had fetch before, I should have never left fetch. 600 dollar policy got me nothing, what a scam.
Fetch - I have had Fetch insurance for many…
I have had Fetch insurance for many years. When my dog was euthanized at 16 years old Fetch applied any claim proceeds against the 20% deductible per claim on the policy? The math doesn't work. I also had to submit the same information from the vet 3 times until they finally came up with their decision. This was the one and only claim in 16 years for this dog. When another dog under Fetch had cancer getting them to pay a claim required sending in the same documents again and again. They finally paid a portion, but not anywhere near the 90% on the policy even after the 10% deductible. I'm now with another company and hope they and not so difficult and might I say dishonest... The customer service reps on the phone were always very nice and helpful, but were limited by the number of times info had to be submitted before getting an answer.
Fetch Canada - Fetch is nothing but thieves
They canceled my policy and sent me an email stating this, yet they continue to steal money from my account for the last 3 months.
Fetch pet insurance are nothing but con-artists and thieves!!
Avoid at all costs!!
They were not letters stating my payment method had expired as they say. The email i received stated my account was CANCELLED!! Yet they continued to take money from my account which would be impossible if my payment method was not working!
Healthy Paws - I have been a loyal Healthy Paws…
I have been a loyal Healthy Paws customer for 7 years, but I can no longer recommend them. When I first signed up, my premium was $23.94/month for the best coverage—now, despite adjusting my deductible and reimbursement level to lower costs, my premium has skyrocketed with no real explanation.
On top of that, my recent claim was denied unfairly, miscategorizing necessary bloodwork as "wellness/preventative care," even though it was for a diagnosed condition. I’ve had to fight for every bit of coverage lately, which was never the case before.
Their service has drastically changed. They know long-term customers with pets who have preexisting conditions can’t switch providers easily, and they’re taking full advantage of that. If you’re considering this insurance, think twice! What starts off affordable quickly becomes overpriced and unreliable.
I’m extremely disappointed
Pets Best - Next to 0 Claim Coverage
I adopted a dog on 11/1/2024.
Prior to adopting the dog, I had to set up a vet intake appointment to prove to the shelter that we would have a regular vet. I set that appointment for 11/17 a few days before going to adopt my dog.
On 11/14, I started a Pet’s Best policy after spending some time reviewing options—3 days before our intake appointment so the policy would be active in time.
At the same time, my RECENTLY ADOPTED DOG WITH NO HISTORY OF PAIN, started showing signs of hip or back pain. I didn’t know if it was an injury or a chronic problem, so I asked the vet what to do. They let me know since she was still eating/drinking/pottying and walking I could wait until our appointment.
At that appointment, we discussed testing some meds and getting some imaging done.
In December, I had an immunization appointment where I also picked up meds. They denied the claim because the “undiagnosed lameness” presented in their stupid 14 day window.
Then, when I got imagine done in February, they denied that claim, too.
Again, I had this dog for TWO WEEKS when I started a policy for her. But because she started presenting with symptoms at the same time, for the REST OF HER LIFE, her hip dysplasia claims will be denied.
This is an absolute discouragement to adopt, and especially to adopt older or medically complex dogs. Mabel is around 2, and I had no expectation she would be medically complex…
But now the policy I got for her so she’d be well cared for even if money was tight won’t cover her biggest need.
If I find a policy who will cover her (now diagnosed) hip dysplasia, I will leave Pet’s Best in an instant.
They love money, not pets.
Embrace - Adjusters don't read attached documents…
Adjusters don't read attached documents or notes. This is the second claim where the adjuster failed to thoroughly read attached documents and associated notes. Because of this they have denied a claim because the claim system didn't have a matching diagnosis in the subject pull down menu and only paid 50% of the submitted items on a second. I wish I had researched this company better before purchasing policies.
Embrace - Just started with them and I’m already extremely unimpressed
So far, unfortunately, I cannot give embrace a good review. It seems as though they will do anything they can to avoid paying any claims. Basically, one of my kitties has a completely clean bill of health for his heart, but on one emergency visit showed he had a heart murmur (due to fear! He’s never had one since) And they are excluding any future heart related issues from his coverage, saying that he has a Pre-existing heart condition (laughable because the same exact vet took an x-ray of his chest and said his heart is fully healthy, and his chest is completely clear). When I called my vet to chat with them about this and they heard I was using Embrace they said that they are a nightmare to deal with and basically I should switch to anybody else. I am appealing his heart condition on the medical review since it is not an actual pre-existing condition and hopefully things will look up in the future but honestly, I’m expecting the worst.
