MetLife - Good pet insurance companies?
Currently have metlife and i’m not happy. I pay $100/month for 3 of my cats. Theyve been putting me through hell & back for MONTHS over a claim I submitted for a $12 medication that will only go towards my $500 deductible anyway, every few weeks they ask me for more paperwork and information, now they want a handwritten letter from my vet explaining WHY my cat needs this medication. It’s always something new and im over it atp and realize if something ever major happens to my cat are they even gonna cover it? cause it soundd like not and i’m wasting my money.
MetLife - MetLife family plan
I put my three dogs on MetLife’s family plan sharing one annual limit and deductible because it was the only company doing it and all the others including Fetch, who I already had, were getting way up there on premiums, especially for my oldest dog.
Started out sharing $10k annual, $250 deductible, 80% reimbursement, around $115/mo. Dogs were 9, 6 and 4 mo.
After one year and no claims MetLife bait and switched me, lowering my deductible to $200 and raising the price by $30. Their other offerings for less were with higher deductibles that didn’t result in anywhere near my original set up in cost. I was ticked off but ended up doing nothing about it. And yes, I know the rates go up as they age.
Renewal came up and they did it again, changing my limit to $10500, lowering my deductible to $150 and raising my premium by $80 to $228/mo!!!
I never put in a claim this whole time!
I work at a vet hospital and get a discount, did have one dog worked up with labs that didn’t meet the deductible so didn’t bother. However, I imagine as far as other carriers are concerned he now has a “pre-existing condition “ even though we didn’t reach a diagnosis other than polydipsia.
So I called MetLife and went through various policy scenarios to see what that dog would be by himself, moving the now 2 1/2 yo to to a different provider and dropping coverage on the now 11 1/2 yo which I hate to do. I ended up keeping everyone covered at $250/80%/$5k for now at $144/months. Makes me nervous as a previous dog took me up to $8500. But this buys me time to decide what to do.
Has anyone here had experience actually putting in claims with MetLife? How were they in honoring claims? Did they yank you around changing coverage and raising premiums substantially at renewal?!
You would think there would be some kind of reward for not needing to submit claims! These tactics are BS!!!
MetLife - Should I switch over to Metlife?
Not your standard switching question, honestly. My partner got a job that offers metlife so our 2 dogs are eligible to switch over to metlife from our current insurance. We have petsbest currently. I already checked and there's no concerns about it being my partners work (and only I am currently on my the petsbest insurance). I spoke with metlife on the phone extensively so I can switch anytime basically, i'm mostly wondering reasons I might want to stay vs not.
Both my dogs have quite a few medical conditions and Petsbest has generally done due diligence. I insured my pit mix in Jan 2022 when I got him and they've covered almost everything. (Annual premiums: 2022 was 460, 2023 was 560, 2024 was 725, and this year was 1032. 250 deductible, 90% reimbursement, unlimited level). They denied only one claim. They denied something and considered it alternative. Even tho it's supplied by a teaching hospital, has studies, and the doctor wrote a huge letter explaining why it was the only option for my dog (my dog has multiple concurrent co-morbidities). They still said no. I asked before hand but they wouldn't pre approve and when I said I was concerned bc it was a big bill they just said I could always appeal. I did, and even with a super detailed letter, nothing. However, he has MANY medical conditions- allergies (on apoquel, immunotherapy, regular derm visits), anxiety (on a couple medications), hip dysplasia/OA and IVDD (on meds and may need surgery). So they've more than paid for his medical conditions.
Second dog we adopted in Sept 2024 and she was a 500 deductible, 90% reimbursement and 816/yr. Ended up in 12k in bills between emergency surgery, post op complications and follow up labs. They've paid up. We had to appeal one thing but successfully this time.
Petsbest has been fine and paid and processed, though slow, which is fine.
I'm mostly considering metlife as both dogs are on prescription foods and metlife will cover wellness care. I could get both dogs annual dentals (which i always planned to do, but was considering pushing it out to 1.5 years out when I'll get a better dental price at a new employer), get tick and flea prevention covered! (200 for one dog, 220 for the other). The prescription foods for the dogs run me about 70 every 1.5-2 months. I'm seriously considering it but feel like there may be something I'm missing. The company confirmed they'd cover rx food even tho petsbest doesnt, btw. Same with dental cleanings.
These were their quotes and I was planning to go with the most expensive one, tbh:
* Family plan: 250 deductible, 90%, unlimited was 2108.92 without wellness
* With wellness: 2938.44
* Family plan: 500 deductible, 90%, unlimited was 1783.25 without wellness
* With wellness: 2469.98
* Family plan: 250 deductible, 80%, unlimited
* with wellness: 2047.84
* Family plan: 500 deductible, 80%, unlimited
* with wellness: 1728.52
Would love any insight and opinions.
MetLife - Anyone Denied Claims from MetLife Pet Insurance?
Hi everyone,
I'm on the phone with the claims department at MetLife. After having paid faithfully for my dog's insurance since the night I adopted him for two years, when I finally filed my claims, I've received SIXTEEN CENTS. Two years worth of payments for SIXTEEN CENTS. They are denying part of my claim because they said I need to provide the previous 12 months of medical records of my dog's history before November 2022. The problem? I ADOPTED HIM IN NOVEMBER 2022. I could see if they were confused about that, but they were on the phone with me during the adoption process! I have a second dog, and I have a different insurance through them, and I planned on going with them, but MetLife gave me a good rate, and the rescue was so encouraging that I went with them, against my better judgment. Now I know why- they suck.
I am looking for other people who've been asked for the same asinine requirements of producing their adopted dog's previous 12 months of SOAP notes BEFORE you adopted them and were denied for a claim. I'm looking to either send this to my state's AG or see if there's an attorney out there willing to take on a class action. Clearly, MetLife Pet insurance is a scam agency. I've asked them yet again to reimburse me, and I told them this time, if they say no, then I want all my payments returned. It's an easy decision- pay less for my claim, or pay more and give me back all my money. I also told them if they do, I'm willing to return the 16 cent paper check I made them mail me.
Thanks.
MetLife - Metlife pet insurance Preventative explanations please
Hey everyone!
I currently have metlife for my one dog and want to add my newly adopted dog. They tried selling me on their preventative but I feel like when I get a new quote on their site the information is different than what was being pushed to me over the phone.
These are the pictures I have. She said that all my dogs flea and tick would be covered for the year after my deductible but if I'm reading this correctly I would only get a payout of $75 for the year. Is that correct? That doesn't seem worth it at all.
Also, She was actually so pushy I'm also considering switching insurances completely.. I've looked into AKC, Spot, and embrace but I need one that covers potential foreign object ingestion and AKC only has once in a lifetime which to me is crazy. My pup picks up stuff on a walk, chews on sticks, etc I'm almost about to put a muzzle to be safe. Thankfully nothing bad so far, but after my aunts experience of her dog swallowing an Avocado pit I want to make sure I have one that covers this just in case.
MetLife - Best affordable dog insurance?
I have an emotional support dog and he helps support me with my panic disorder everyday!! I know some people think dog insurance is a joke, but I’m disabled (for physical reasons) and want to be more prepared/protected with pet insurance so I won’t be stuck with a giant bill with a budget income. (Yes, I understand you have to pay it all upfront at the first before you see any money back from insurance.) Would love to hear some decently priced options for mostly full coverage!
I have MetLife, but thought I’d ask for recommendations before I switch because $90/month isn’t exactly budget friendly for me 😕 Thanks for making it this far!! 😎👍🏻
MetLife - Intestate estate still open nearly 3years. Brother won’t sell. What to do?
Greetings everyone. I do but know where to go for help in this. I tried the court but that was useless. There is only one lawyer near us that takes our MetLife legal card. So my dad died augusts 2022. The estate is worth close to a million and there was no will. I tried to qualify as the administrator, but since I had to be bonded, my credit held me back, so my brother was able to qualify. Since then, he has done nothing. Two plots of land were sold for 300,000. It was sold for less than it was worth, but it was too family, and that was important to my dad. No personal items have been sold. There homes are in the country and the homes are full of mice that I’m sure have eaten everything! The cars have been sitting, uncovered the four wheelers the Farm equipment, all of it sitting and rusting. There is a double wide that’s about 15 years old and sits on a gorgeous lot and a three bedroom brick ranch that is still waiting to be sold and all of the personal effects but I cannot get my brother to do anything. He will not return a phone call or a text message. When we try to contact the court, they were of no help we don’t know what to do who returned to or what our rights are and trying to read online. It’s like it’s written in another language. I know this is a long Post, and if anybody has time to give us an idea of how to move forward from here what we can do it would be so appreciated. We are in Virginia if that makes a difference at all thank you in advance so so much.
