Medica - Insurance not fully covering room and board after birth
I live in Minnesota where insurance companies are required to cover 48 hours of inpatient care after a vaginal birth. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/62A.0411#:~:text=Every%20health%20plan%20must%20provide,a%20mother%20and%20her%20newborn.
My insurance (Medica) is trying to make me pay $1850 of the $8300 billed to them for room and board after I gave birth. The stay was less than 48 hours. Is this legal? Do I have a course of action here?
TriWest - ED out of pocket pay
Hello,
So last year I got bit by a stray dog and had to go get my rabies shot. I went to urgent care first where they told me to go to the ED (nonprofit) down the road to get the shots. I went to the ED, got the shots, and went on my merry way.
I got a bill yesterday for the shots where my insurance (TriWest as a dependent) paid for $25,000 of the $28,000 and the hospital left the $3,000 balance to me.
Is there any way I can find out if the hospital gives assistance? I’m a college student and I can’t afford such a high bill with every other bill I have so I just want to pick your brain on ways I could possibly reduce this. I am in Texas, and I currently have no income.
Thank you!
Covered California - Recently moved to California
Brother moved to California on Thursday and immediately needed emergency services. Covered California's website says people can enroll within 60 days of moving here but the social worker at the hospital says he can't apply to medi-cal because he's not been a resident for 60 days. We've been getting conflicting information. I'm hoping I can find some help/clarification here. He's early 40s and has no income
Blue Cross Complete of Michigan - I just had my finger surgery
so I’m on Medicaid since I’m not working due to my finger injury. I got my surgery done a few months ago and they send me a bill today. I literally thought everything is going to be covered by the insurance. Maybe I should’ve asked questions ahead of time, but I wasn’t aware of this since I know few people who got surgeries and it was covered. I’m not working right now as well since my finger is still not healed. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do right now. do I contact Medicaid or the surgery place? Not sure. by the way, my insurance is Blue cross complete of Michigan. My insurance did pay for over half of the bill but just confused why it wasn’t covered completely.
United Healthcare - Email address for UHC complaint?
I had horrible customer service experiences with United Healthcare this past week. Horrible enough that I want to send a complaint to the appropriate people. I have unsuccessfully searched all over for an email address - I can't stand the thought of another phone call with them. Does anyone know the email address?
AmBetter - 25 year old searching for his own health insurance
I’ve never had to worry about health insurance before, so I have not learned any of the insurance lingo or terms. I’m in a very specific, very tricky situation.
I was in an accident 2 years ago that I am still recovering from. I have a plastic surgery that I still need done to complete the recovery. At the same time, I am being kicked off of my parents insurance.
Is there a reputable insurer that young adults generally use? My parents suggested AmBetter, but their reviews are really poor and lots of reviews say they deny coverage for surgeries.
I’m willing to pay a premium if it means I can get better care throughout my recovery. I still need physical therapy and a permanent shoe-lift made. I’m hoping to find insurance that will cover me through all of this. I cannot get insurance through an employer, because I can’t hold any serious jobs that offer insurance while I am going through recovery.
Any tips are appreciated, thank you in advance!
MI Medicaid - Insurance denied claim for ER visit and says I owe 0$ but I got a 1000$ bill from hospital in the mail.
I had an ER visit back in Dec 2024 and I got a bill yesterday for 1000$. On my insurance app (MI Medicaid) it says I owe 0$ and the claim was denied but I still got a bill. Am I responsible to pay this bill still? I submitted a claim with my insurance because it was an emergency and at night no urgent cares were open. It’s Sunday so nothing is open and nobody else I can talk to right now. What should I do?
Kaiser - My insurance agent didn't enroll me so I missed Covered Ca deadline
So I went to an insurance agent to enroll with kaiser through covered ca at the end of January because it wouldn't let me online and I was told I'd get my insurance card and stuff sent to me in a week or two well flash forward to today and I called kaiser to try and order an insurance card and they have no record of me at all. Called covered ca and same thing so I guess when I went to enroll through him it didn't work idk if he did something wrong or if it was a system error or something idk. This is my first time applying for insurance since I just got off my parents insurance and I'm not sure how to proceed. I'm not sure how to apply without covered ca and how much more it would be. Any suggestions I called the guy and left a message and haven't heard back yet.
UMR - how do i get rid of a UMR blockage with my medical?
hello! i know my issue isn't major, but I need help as I am desperate to solve this. Long story short, I had medical for the longest time and never had any issues until January when I was informed (when trying to make a dentist appointment) that I had a UMR blockage. I was confused but was told to call medical and get it resolved. I called them and they said to get in touch with UMR whcihc I tried but was beyond useless as they ask for a member ID which I stated multiple time I DONT HAVE, and after somehow bypassing the answering machine UMR tells me they have no records of me ever existing and to basically die in a ditch as they just hunged up on me. I explained this to medical, and they made me fill out a form to remove "other healthcare coverage," and it should be removed (I did this twice, btw). It in fact was not as I tried to make a dentist appointment again and same thing: "UMR blockage. please take this up with medical".
I called medical again, and they gave me a case ID and told me to ask UMR for a "coverage termination letter," which I tried to do, but again, they told me, "We don't know you we can't do anything" and hung up on me. I explained this to Medical, and they filled out a form (the same one I did), and it should be resolved, yet I don't know if it actually be.
Also, worth to mention one of the workers I spoke to told me that the UMR policy I was under was my uncles, whom I have had no contact since like five years ago and have no connection with at this point, the alleged policy began in 2023 so I don't understand how this even happened:C
when I tried to report the fraud to medical they said "you cant report it here, report it to UMR and then we could try to remove the block because until then we cannot remove an active policy by law" But UMR has been beyond useless and I'm scared because I have a cavity and I know its not serious but I am afraid it could get worse
Im just trying to see if anyone was in my same situation (which is very unlikely) or if I could get any recommendations on what to do because I don't know how to proceed anymore and this just pmo.
Anyways thank you to whoever read this and pls help
Ambetter - Ambetter denied me overage for Genetic Testing
I am currently 2 months pregnant and just recently went for my 2nd pre-natal routine checkup. They performed a papsmear, and a ton of blood testing since I am almost 40yrs and it may be in the high risk category for pregnancy. Before I went in to see the doctor. The people at the front desk assured me that my Ambetter plan covers everything that needed to be done. But today, I received a letter in the mail from ambetter saying that I was denied for "Genetic Testing" as it falls out of their covered services. I am really stressed out about this and don't know what I should do. The people at the doctor's office told me they cover it, and ambetter is telling me otherwise. I also signed up for CHIP perinatal and wonder if that covers Genetic Testing.
