This company is very misleading with exam day offers. Customer service was poor when I reached out to figure out why my claim was denied. How can something that has never been diagnosed, be pre existing?

It says on their website that they can pay the veterinarian at checkout for services. I called my veterinarian to verify this and they said it wasn't true. I would have to pay up front for anything at time of services and submit the claim to Trupanion to reimburse me. After I signed up I also noticed there is a 5 day waiting period for reimbursement for emergency visits and a 30 day waiting period for reimbursement for any illness! Not okay to false advertise.

I just cancelled my insurance policy for both my pets. I have had coverage for almost three years and they just denied my very first claim after weeks of back-and-forth, citing supposed evidence of my cat's pre-existing condition. He has a NEW diagnosis of hyperthyroidism as evidenced by vomiting, weight loss and abnormal thyroid function studies. I could appeal this decision with more back and forth, but no thank you. I estimate that I've spent over $3500 in premiums over the past 2.5 years, money that I could have saved and put directly towards my vet care. This is what I'll do now, starting today. Live and learn. Don't waste your money. Better to save the money yourself for your pets' needs.

Waiting period wasn’t clear. Claim was denied because the visit was the same day. I feel you prey on people in emotional times doing whatever they can to help their animals in a crisis situation.

Classic insurance company Deductible expensive enough to disinsentive you from using insurance unless major claims. Won't cover existing medical conditions but will charge you the same as some one covered for everything. My personal story is my daschound had a back surgery before policy, another one 3 years into the policy which I knew wasn't covered and paid out of pocket, sadly back went out again a couple years later. We decided it wouldn't be fair to put him through another at his age. The first claim I made in 6 years of having a policy was for euthanasia which should be covered.. ...but guess what nope not even that would be approved because of the reason having to do with a back injury. 6 years with only increasing premiums just to get denied for that. Never deal with them again

Classic insurance company Will deny coverages for existing conditions but charge you like your getting covered for absolutely everything. I think my premiums just about doubled in 6 years with no claims. My personal experience would have cost me over 7000 dollars for the term of my policy to be rejected on my first and only claim to cover to euthanize my pet versus putting him through a 3rd back surgery which wouldn't have been covered by them either. Appearntly if the reasoning for being euthanized has anything to do with a prior condition they won't cover it......it's not about the couple dollars I didn't get reimbursed but more about the slimey reasoning that they use to justify this denial all while keeping their hands out for your ever increasing monthly payment. Do yourself a favor and put the equivalent In a savings account.

Terrible had to Resuscitate my five month old puppy and all they had to say was that everyone’s gone through something like that very unsympathetic they are discriminating retaliating, causing mental distress on mine and my puppies life false people, Regular reps falsely claimed to be a claims department on multiple occasions, they argue over you and with you also they don’t have to pay out. Don’t offer a free trial if you’re not ready for what comes with it during it or after. Point blank I should have listened

Very expensive plans and they are full of exceptions/ restrictions and co-pays, Always looking for a reason or exception on not covering situation at hand. And the rates that were suppose to be locked in are not,

I have 3 pets using Trupanion. What’s frustrating is the significant premium increase every year. They claim it’s due to increases in medical care across the board and so every member needs to pay more. I wish it was based more on an individual basis and claims submitted. The blanket increase seems unfair. For one dog it’s going up $20 per month even though I’ve never submitted a claim for her. UPDATE in response to Trupanion reply: While I appreciate that you say this, that’s not been my experience. For all people that read this review see below the latest monthly change in my premium. The year it doesn’t go up I’ll be sure to update my review. Pet #1- $74.75 to $101.25 Pet #2- $70.04 to $89.41 Pet #3- $75.74 to $85.09
