Trupanion - A Very Bad New Landing Page and sign in ? Why?
I have loved Trupanion and felt it was 5 star for many years but this new landing page and sign-in is very bad. I often have to try multiple times and I do not like the predominance of French on the landing page. FYI, I speak and read French.
Trupanion - my first experience with your company i…
my first experience with your company i was very disappointed…. I had to remind My Litchfield Vet dr to use your insurance… even tho i had been informed by you it was done. With my first bill over $900, you paid only about $50 of the total. And i am paying for insurance ?
Trupanion - Reimbursement for surgery
Called Trupanion twice to inquire about a surgery my dog needed and was told it would be covered and I am responsible for paying the deductible. Dog had surgery and I submitted the invoices and received a message it was denied. Called and they resubmitted it and was approved minus $267 in taxes. Called again and they didn't know how the adjuster came up with that amount. Taxes were less than $8. Waiting to receive my reimbursement. Wasn't impressed with the process.
Trupanion - Premium doubled in 3 years
When we adopted our dog back in May of 2022, we signed her up for insurance before she was even a year old. At the time, our monthly premium was $155.91. It seemed high but we wanted to make sure she was covered.
But every single year since then, the premium has shot up by about $50. Yesterday, June 20, 2025, we got hit with another rate increase. It's now $330.52 a month. That’s more than double what we started with.
It really feels like the strategy here is to make it so expensive that people are forced to cancel coverage once their pet starts aging.
Edit after Trupanion response. I appreciate the reply. However at the current rate if increase we are on track for the monthly premium to be $680 a month by the time our dog is 10 years old. No amount of marketing fluff makes that reasonable.
And I did speak to your company when we got the second increase last year and was told verbatim the script you entered as a response to this review.
Regardless of your reasons, potential customers should be aware their premiums are likely to double in just 3 years like ours did.
That's the point of reviews so people know from other customers what to expect.
Trupanion - I have used trupanion for 7 years
I have used trupanion for 7 years. And my rate has gone from $40 to $112 a month. That’s $480 to $1,344 annually ( that’s with a $1000 deductible)Trupanion says they never increase rates based on claims you submit. Instead, they use a complicated formula to increase your rate. This rate doesn’t cover office visits or any well care ( others do). And only reimburses 90% of covered costs. My dog has been diagnosed with a chronic illness that makes it impossible for me to switch companies now. I really wish I had chosen a different company. Do your homework, Trupanion is not a good company.
Trupanion - What a hassle!
After being a member for eleven years suddenly it’s extremely difficult to submit a claim. They make you jump through a bunch of hoops now making it totally inconvenient.
Trupanion - Trupanion is a good pet insurance for…
Trupanion is a good pet insurance for peace of mind and emergencies. However, they still need to work on coverage. I find it disappointing that exams arnt covered, taxes, and wellness procedures arnt covered. I would think they would want to promote prevention.
Trupanion - Beware of what they sell you on!!
Just like all Ins Companies. You take full advantage of the customers and their needs! How in the hell do you cover conditions such as cancer (which we are in the throes of now with one) but you don’t cover to have it diagnosed or even to see a specialist from treatment plans (oncologist) to prevent and or treat cancer. It all has to do with the same diagnosed condition that you are coving. Makes absolutely ZERO since!!!! Your company has screw us over so much over the corse of the past 13 years and still doing it. I will be dropping Trupanion as soon as my 2 remaining dogs covered by Trupanion have passed on. Which with your help will be sooner than later! We have too much invested in your bs to stop now for these 2. My dogs are up in age now and is too late to switch these 2 but I can assure you that my other pups are not covered by all of your small print and exceptions.
My dogs have allergies. And you refused to cover their meds that are given 2x per day for their lives. Ask any vet you can’t do an allergy test on a pup until it is at least a year old. Your company refused to pay any of it!! Said that they had to prove that it wasn’t an existing condition. But yet in one of my many rounds with your “CS” I told them that why don’t you prove to me that it was!!? The vet told me that there isn’t any way that anyone can see how a pup reacts to environments until that go through the seasons or environments. And just like human babies what they react to as babies may not be a life long condition that they could and most likely do grow out of it. So you do go torturing a child with (in your company’s case) a bunch of painful testing and then specialist (which you don’t cover that either) when being treated or diagnosed. What is the point of you. To anyone reading this if your babies needs a TPLO surgery or surgery ok after deduct they pay but make sure you check on what they only covered! But any life long conditions….we’ll be ready to argue and fight for what all you thought you were getting in their sales pitch. Beware of the small print!! They will get you and you will be (like me) flanked trust me!!
Trupanion Canada - I’ve been with Trupanion for over 5…
I’ve been with Trupanion for over 5 years now. Each year my monthly bill has increased, I started at 85$/month and now as of July 28/2025 my monthly bill for one mixed breed dog will be 132.50.
Which is more than my own monthly personal medical insurance.
Yes, it does say in the small print that yearly changes will be made, but at what point does the cost increase stop?
I am sure this is some sort of ponzy scheme where they get you started with your new pet, just so slowly increase your charges through its life time.
I will be looking for and acquiring a new insurance company as soon as possible.
Trupanion - The premiums have increased
The premiums have increased, of course, but I'm starting to wonder if worth the cost. I also had to call and ask for 2 invoices to be reviewed, as were mistakenly not being paid due to incorrect deductible information.
