I am writing this review to express my utter disappointment and frustration with Trupanion. Our experience with them during a medical emergency for our beloved dog was nothing short of horrific. Yesterday, my dog ingested something harmful and we immediately reached out to Trupanion to file a claim. We provided all the necessary details, believing we were covered, as we had previously confirmed this with their representatives. However, when we needed them most, they rejected our claim, citing "previous condition". This was incredibly misleading, as we were assured coverage for such incidents. What made the situation even more infuriating was their dismissive attitude. Meanwhile, we were watching Ollie suffer, desperately trying to find a solution. Despite our efforts to arrange funds for the surgery that evening and scheduling the procedure for the next morning, our 3-year old dog tragically passed away just hours before the operation. This experience has been devasting for our family, especially our children. The lack of empathy and the cold correspondence we received from this company only added to our grief. We are now considering legal action due to their negligence and failure to honour their promises. I urge anyone considering pet insurance to stay far away from Trupanion. Their lack of support during a critical time has left us shattered, and I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. Protect your pets and your piece of mind - look for a company that truly cares.

Way too expensive and doesn’t pay for actual exam visit fees.

STAY AWAY FROM TRUPANION! I have two policies. They just raised my monthly premium $48 for the older dog and $42 on the puppy. The older dog had just minor issues (thyroid pills) and the young dog has been in perfect health. I mean, I've only had that policy for a little over a year. They lure you in with reasonable rates then zap you once your in. There's got to be a better insurance company out there. I'm researching and will be leaving Trupanion.

I've had my cat covered for 11 years and in that time my premiums have tripled without a single claim. She's been healthy the whole time and yet it went from $50 to $150 per month. Save your money and put your premiums in a savings account, at least then you'll have the money for your pet when needed and the savings account won't deny your claim based on some bs loophole they use to deny claims.

Have yet to even be able to access the online account. Was received the link to log in but it doesnt work. Person on phone tried but wasnt successful. Not good first impressions when its nothing but issues the second you sign up before i even need to use it so not sure what to expect if i need to make a claim when the site doesnt even work

Please beware on the dream they sale that they care about your dog and really listen and take information and are reasonable when approval or denial. FALSE. The first two people were “helpful” and seemed caring. When inquiring why claim was denied gloves are off. I asked clearly is there an actual diagnosis from any doctor on my pets medical records, no. So how can this be existing? We need to test done to know if there is anything. I asked a lot of questions before signing up and I def feel deceived by the information given and what’s actually happened. I’m just trying to give my sweet boy the best thinking getting him covered would help that. False.

I just canceled after wasting $85/mo times three years times two dogs! We got our dogs from the pound and on of their vet visits noted some tartar. One dog needs a tooth extraction - due to a cracked tooth - not tartar. Claim denied. $1300 bill to be paid. Hmmm. Pretty much the same amount that I’ve paid, rather given, to this company for one dog. Do yourself a favor. Look at reviews on other sites.

Very poor customer service. I have called multiple times in the past two weeks regarding changing my form of payment after Trupanion website denied my credit card information multiple times. I was told to check with credit card company etc. which I did - no issue there. I have been promised a call back from a supervisor many times. No call back or resolution for 2 weeks. My dog is almost 15 years old and I have paid thousands in premiums over the years. Current premium is $245/mo. I expect far better service from a company that has taken in thousands of dollars from me with very few claims paid out.

Trupanion was great for the first year. I payed 40 dollars for my pup with a 500 deductible and 90% coverage. My favorite thing about them is they don’t increase cost for animals as they age (or so they say) only for inflation/vet cost increase. As soon as my first year with them finished the price went from 40 to 50 dollars (25% up) just like that. When reaching out to them they said it was due to inflation, I’d like to point out inflation for 2024 was 2.9%. If they follow this pattern, by four years my policy will have doubled. This insurance looks good from the start but they will be increasing your premiums drastically so be prepared for that.

SCAM ALERT!!! Beware of this company and their deceptive sales practices! I got a coupon code for a month's free service to try it out, called gave them the code and the person said great let's set you up! Went through the sign-up, and at no time was told that the code would not be honored. They ended up billing me for the first month and refused to refund the charges. I cancelled the policy - if they won't honor their promotion how can I trust they will honor any claims? Clearly a shady business, stay clear of them! UPDATE: They applied a DIFFERENT coupon code with a different benefit - not the first month free I had presented - and did not tell me that the benefit was different and they were charging me for the first month. They apparently have a recording of the call which would make all of this quite evident In fact, even after canceling my policy they are still charging me me! See attached screenshots. This is a deeply dishonest company racking up charges they hope they can get away with, and making people fight to dispute their fraudulent charges.
