Geico - Car accident settlement
I was driving east on 71 headed home for the day after work when someone pulled out from a stop sign on Albert Brown Drive. I was luckily able to maneuver around the person without making any contact with the vehicle however in doing so my vehicle spun out and landed in a ditch. Vehicle is totaled, my head was bleeding from a minor cut, cut on my leg, bruise on my shoulder, little bit of neck pain but the worst was the red mark on the back of my ribs and a coupled ribs being bruised. Sucks I had just bought the car not a month ago and was a fairly rare 1993 Volvo 240 sedan that was black on black with chrome accents, super slick car and I looked forever until I could find it.
Geico called me and said how usually this is an odd case because there was no contact with the other vehicle however the driver and police report said it was his fault so Geico is wanting to offer me a settlement. they offered $2,450 as basically "we sorry" this happened and will still cover the medical expenses from the ER and the vehicle cost's. Just not sure if I should take the offer being the wreck caused me to lose two days of work at one job and haven't been able to go back to my other job since I don't have a vehicle. Also I have racked up close to 300 dollars on Lyft rides, plus 150 to have my totaled car taken home and have my girlfriend leave work to drive 30 minutes to get me and take me to the ER. Also missed one of my best friends birthday parties the day after the accident and haven't been able to go back running or working out since the accident. I'm debating on hiring an attorney but resistant since my medical injuries were not severe. Also I have no idea how much they will pay out for the vehicle and online says 2000-7000 just sucks cause I can't find another car like it and not to mention I just spent 600 plus dollars on parts for the car.
If anyone has had this similar experience what did you do, did you take the initial offer, negotiate with the insurance company or go through an attorney. I greatly appreciate anyones advice and input.
Also if anyone has a 2001-2006 Honda CR-V for sale that's what I will be looking for once this is settled.
USAA - $500 policy increase in MA
My policy just renewed this month, my overall policy went from $2300 to over $2800. I had an accident back in 2023, very minor rear end tap. (I was at fault) the other party didn’t bring litigation against me until 2 months before the statute of limitations went up this year in april. My insurance company did pay out the settlement, and I was told I did not have a surcharge from this incident, and that if my insurance was to go up from this accident it would have happened in 2023 when the accident occurred. My insurance company (USAA) informed me of a state-wide increase being put into effect and that this increase on this renewal was only a portion of the overall increase. I’m just very confused, and unsure how it would increase that much if it wasn’t from this prior accident, and my driving record outside of it is totally clean. Been with this ins company for 6 years now, and I don’t want to switch as i’ve enjoyed it thus far but feel like I have to now that i’m being priced out of it. anyone in massachusetts have any insights?
HealthyPaws - Switching from HealthyPaws?
My 2-year-old husky/rottie mix, Raymond, is insured through HealthyPaws. They have been wonderful- it's $57/month for 90% reimbursement with a $250 deductible. As I'm sure you can guess from his breed, he has had several expensive accidents, especially when he was little. HealthyPaws has covered all of them and saved me thousands. There's also no annual limit.
My boyfriend and I live together now, and we want to insure his 8-year-old greyhound/lab mix, Tucker. He's healthy and has no pre-existing conditions. I called HealthyPaws to add him, but they said the only option is $69/month for 50% reimbursement with a $1000 deductible. While looking into other options, I found tons of reviews saying that HealthyPaws significantly increases premiums each year. Now, I'm considering moving Ray too and putting both dogs on a new plan.
Despite competitive pricing, it looks like Lemonade is bad about premium hikes too. Trupanion would triple Ray's premium and make Tucker's absolutely ridiculous. Nationwide only offered Tucker a dirt cheap plan that doesn't cover illness. PetsBest gave me a great quote for both dogs, but has mixed reviews about coverage and price hikes.
I'd appreciate any recommendations/advice. I'm looking for a company that is able to do 90% reimbursement and a lower deductible for Tucker despite his age, doesn't increase premiums much each year, has no annual limit (or a very high one), and doesn't deny claims for stupid reasons. Add-on riders for routine wellness are a plus as long as the limits are reasonable- we spend $400+ each on Simparica Trio each year, and their annual exams are pricey.
Pets Best - If your Pets Best claims are being denied
I’ve received a series of new and confusing EOBs denying claims I usually had had no problem getting approved quickly before. Pets Best informed me on the phone that they have a new automated system that some claims get filtered into that is causing some claims to be incorrectly denied. Wanted to update and post here because their customer service truly is so helpful and kind, and if you call them they will fix your issues by flagging your denials for manual review.
Fred Loya Insurance - Fred loya insurance has been ignoring me for 3 weeks
My car was totaled at the beginning of July, it was the other drivers fault and she has Fred loya. I have been completely out of a car for 3 weeks and I can’t get through to anyone. I don’t know what to do.
The car isn’t worth a lot, it’s a 2005 Subaru Outback, but in my area (Colorado ) I should get at least $4,000 for it, they offered me $2,200 and after I sent a bunch of comparables over they’ve been ignoring me.
I have 2 jobs and I go back to school next month, I need a car.
Any advice on how to get them to pay attention to me? I’m pretty poor so getting a lawyer feels out of the question, but I’m also getting desperate.
Thank you in advance
USAA - Am I over paying??
I’m 23, no accident or tickets at all currently driving a 2021 Mazda3 hatchback, no loan on the car.
Currently paying 362 a month for full coverage with USAA and live in Florida.
Should I look elsewhere for insurance? I’ve been with USAA 5 years now and I’m starting to think I’m over paying.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Help - BCBS termed me due to nonpayment.
Hi everyone, the title is basically it. I have a marketplace plan starting last year. I signed up for autopay, or so I thought. Turns out not a cent came out after the first payment.
There was zero notice. They said they snail mailed me something but I'm in the process of moving and my mail comes to my parents house.
Not to mention if I saw something I would have assumed it was a monthly statement and tossed it.
They had my email, my phone number, i received multiple emails but not a word about my account.
I have a medication I order about once a month that costs around 2-3k without insurance and I'm racking my brain to figure out if it shipped after january.
TLDR - bcbs told me that my account is just termed. I cant reactivate and need to contact the marketplace. Does anyone have any advice?
CalFAIR - CalFAIR says my payment was returned NSF, my bank app says it was paid
Like many Californians, got dropped by Farmers last year and the only option was CalFAIR for our fire policy. Paid the quarterly in February online and on time, got a letter today saying that the premium “was not honored by your financial institution”. Double checked my banking app, it showed the amount was paid with no problem. The running balance on my account was around $2-3000 at that time, no way it was NSF for a $676 debit. Plus, my account has NSF protection, where if I do go over (which I haven’t in decades), money from savings is transferred into checking to cover the overdraft. Basically, impossible to be NSF. So now I get to wait on hold Monday morning for however long, and what do I say when/if I get to a real person? How do I prove this was paid? Do I call the bank first?
USPS - Dispute cars value
Is there a way to dispute your cars value ? Insurance gave me a value of $12,000(I think that’s HIGH) for my 17’ Chevy Cruze with close to 180,000 miles on it + body damage . I was hit by usps and the damage is roughly $6,000-6,500 so we tried to get usps to pay for the damage but they won’t exceed $5,400 because my cars not worth more than that to them (which I agree) I’ve personally been saying since I got the repair estimate costs that it’s totaled. Kellybluebook value is about $5,300, a car dealership gave me $6,000 for the value so HOW is insurance $6,000 more than the 3 of those values. If usps won’t even give me the amount of damage shouldn’t my Isnurance reconsider their value ?
Westlake Financial - Refinancing a car loan that I just got couple weeks ago
I just financed a truck about 3 weeks ago and the dealer approved me with a loan through Westlake financial, I didn’t know much about them but after searching them, people have negative reviews about them. Well now I’m thinking that if I refinance my car loan, would it still count as 1 hard inquiry since I’m still under the “checking best rates”
Time frame. Or should I just wait a couple months and then refinance later
