Pets Best - Horrible, I don't recommend it to anyone.
I purchased this insurance in May 2025, paid for two full months, and when I finally needed it, it was absolutely useless. I spent $200 on routine veterinary exams that the policy clearly states are covered — but of course, they weren’t. Instead, I was asked to provide my pet’s entire medical history from over a year ago. I came from Brazil, where it’s not common for vets to keep such detailed records — we simply don’t have them.
So, in the end, I paid PetBest (which is far from “best”) for two months of premiums and then had to pay another $200 out of pocket. Horrible, horrible service. I would never recommend this insurance to anyone. Insurance is supposed to help in times of need — not create more problems and bureaucracy.
Now I’m trying to cancel a policy that never helped me and is still charging me through automatic debit — and guess what? There is NO option to cancel it on the website. Absolutely ridiculous.
Embrace - I previously had pet insurance through…
I previously had pet insurance through Nationwide. The only reason I switched was due to Embraces relationship with USAA. After the first claim I received an email stating they were doing a health history check on my dog. Shortly after I received an email with a list of things they won’t cover. Many of these things were temporary in nature, like diarrhea. It would be like my insurance saying you had a cold six months ago, we won’t cover anything related to a cold for 1 year. Buyer beware. They are polite. That’s about it. I should have never left Nationwide.
Fetch - Everything is pre-existing to this company!
I’d used Petplan prior to Fetch buy-out/merger. My golden doodle needed a couple of teeth removed. Claim was paid. I continued getting my dog’s teeth cleaned but her teeth are just a problem. At one point years ago, the vet mentioned that she had signs of gingivitis. BECAUSE of that, she is now and forever considered to have pre-existing dental disease (even though in 2021 prior to that), she underwent dental surgery that was reimbursed by Petplan.. It’s as though they combed through every vet note they could find to make sure she can never be covered for dental surgery again. Their monthly coverage continues to increase without alerting the customer. This is so frustrating. Please don’t mention one word about a tremor or twitch. If they goes into the vet’s notes, your pet will forever have pre-existing everything.
Pets Best - Be aware of “preexisting conditions “
I have two dogs that are covered by Pets Best insurance and have been covered at least for four years. ( they are 5 and 6 years old). I have submitted two claims for each - three of the claims have been denied due to conditions they claim existed before the insurance went into effect. The last denial is for an ear infection and medication to treat it. Neither one of my dogs have ever had an ear infection before. I expected a denial in order to meet my copayment obligation, but was surprised to see that reason. I expect that any claim I put in for that dog will be denied for that reason.
Healthy Paws - Beware of Duplicate Billing and…
Beware of Duplicate Billing and Unresponsive Support
I’ve been a loyal Healthy Paws customer since 2014, but my recent experience has been so frustrating that I can no longer recommend them.
What Went Wrong
* In 2024 I adopted dog B and added her to my original policy (which I’d held since 2014 for my late dog, K).
* Unbeknownst to me, B was also added to my husband’s separate policy (for his dog, S), so we’ve been billed twice for the exact same pet since February 2024.
* No claims have been paid out for B under either policy—so we’ve paid double premiums for zero coverage.
Attempts to Fix It
1. July 7, 2025: Spent over an hour on the phone only to be told it was “beyond capacity” and that management would call back within 24 hours—no callback ever came.
2. Messaged Healthy Paws on Instagram (screenshots available) with no response.
3. July 14, 2025: Called again, was put on hold until the call dropped, and couldn’t get through afterward.
4. Submitted multiple online inquiries—still nothing.
Bottom Line
I’ve asked repeatedly for one of the duplicate policies to be cancelled retroactive to February 2024 and for a full refund of the overpaid premiums. Instead of help, I’ve been stonewalled. Hours wasted, double billing, and no accountability—this is not the customer service experience I expected. For many years Healthy Paws were an incredible company. This is just my most recently issue with them. The last two years their service has gone downhill.
Until Healthy Paws fixes this mess and makes it right, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend them.
7/18/25 Edit to add - received a call from a helpful manager AFTER posting my review. One policy has been cancelled. I will update when I receive a refund
MetLife - Stay Away - They are not helpful
Don't let the slick marketing fool you. My experience was bad. They are not helpful and they will deny your claim for the smallest of reasons. Do not use. Stay away.
Spot - Upped me 3x since ive had them
Upped me 3x since ive had them, worst insurance i get nothing back
Trupanion - Improvements Needed
Redundant filling of information when submitting a claim. Nebulous explanation of benefits. Unclear, unpleasant web site. Rare to find veterinary practices accepting the direct payment from Trupanion.
Embrace - They were good until they were not
They were good until they were not. Doubled my premium on the renewal and left me hanging. Forced me to start looking for insurance elsewhere. Not a long term partner.
ASPCA - I am giving the lowest star possible…
I am giving the lowest star possible because after reading the reviews I have decided this is not a good pet insurance company who nickle and dimes you to death and won't keep their end of the bargain. I will find something more trustworthy than this one for sure. Thank you everyone for your reviews and alarming other consumers such as myself.
