State Farm - Homeowners insurance requirement
Has anyone ever heard of a requirement that a wood fence needs to have 5 feet of metal between the house and the fence for homeowner's insurance? State Farm is mandating that we replace 5 feet of our wood fence that is closest to the house with metal for the policy to go through.
Progressive - Car insurance included salvage title cars in comps, won't negotiate
So our car was stolen and our insurance (Progressive) gave us their vehicle valuation report. The base value is 33k and they deducted almost 12k since it's salvaged title (stolen recovery) so it ends up being almost 21k. My problem is that 3 out of the 5 comps in the report were also salvage title! So I sent them a letter saying based off of their formula they should realistically be giving me the average price of those 3 salvaged vehicles (ends up being 31k after adjustments) these are cars that are selling or have sold in my area. Instead they're double dipping using salvaged cars for comps and deducting the title history deduction on top of that. Now, they give me a call back saying they're firm on their number they can't move around numbers bla bla bla..
I don't get it? , realistically I wasn't expecting 31k I wanted to negotiate and meet somewhere in the middle and now they're telling me they're done.. to invoke my appraisal clause. Like are they serious? Based off of reddit I thought insurances went up a little and tried to negotiate somewhat. So am I stuck now? Should be worth hiring an appraiser right? Anyone go through a similar experience or have any advice?
California FAIR Plan - Paid CA Fair plan late
I paid my premium online on Aug 5, and they took the money. I have a receipt. I received a cancellation notice today saying I didn’t pay the premium. I looked and my insurance expired at 11:59 PM on Aug 4. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any guidance is welcome?
Wishbone Pet Insurance - Dog rupture CCL 5 days before 6-month CCL waiting period
I have Wishbone pet insurance, and they are very slow to response for either. Everyone has been very nice, but my claim just got denied for 6 months after my dog ruptured her CCL. What is frustrating is she had the zoomies on 5/3/2025 and that is when she tore her CCL. My waiting period is 5/9/2025. Am I just out of luck and 5 days is the difference between 3k out of pocket?
Healthy Paws Pet Insurance - Healthy paws pet insurance
Is it even legal for Healthy Paws pet insurance to increase premiums at almost 200% in CA? This is outrageously high!! Anyone experiencing the same?

Voya - Be careful if you use Voya - their new Edelman thing almost did something bad!
Just wanting to throw this out there - if you are enrolled in a Voya retirement plan, they rolled out this new "AI advisor" service to accounts. It allows you to have a Empower-like interface to where it can calculate your retirement income based on savings from various sources including Social Security. That part of it is pretty nice, no complaints there. Though I am a bit concerned about the visibility of other account data to my employer, though I'm sure there's privacy practices in place against that.
But when I was clicking around and not intentionally doing anything, there was a orange notice icon by a bell at the top. I clicked that and it had a dialog stating "Updates Needed for Plan Accuracy" - and that's where it's very alarming.
I'm under age 30. I should NOT be in bonds. I DO NOT want to be in bonds. Nor do I want to be invested international. For some reason, this AI advisor tool wanted me to re-balance to be 35% in bonds, and 30% international, with 5% of my contributions going to fees for the re-balancing.
So be careful with Voya.
Trupanion - Trupanion, fetch, or nationwide?
I adopted a cat just under a year ago now. She is a domestic shorthair and will be two years old this April.
While she hasn’t had any major issues yet, I grew up with family pets and know it’s only a matter of time before I end up with a $1000+ vet bill.
I’ve been looking at pet insurance companies and reviews and none of them seem good? Either everyone seems to have major complaints about every single one or their coverage is really weird.
I’m still going to get one, especially since I believe my cat is starting to develop gingivitis and as far as I’m aware, it hasn’t been noted by the vet, so I’m hoping it won’t be counted as a pre-existing condition.
I was originally interested in SPOT but then saw that a bunch of people said they were a scam, so I started looking into others.
The top three I’ve been debating between: Fetch, trupanion, and nationwide.
I really like the price and coverage of Fetch, but I’ve seen a mix of both bad and good reviews on them. If anyone has any good/bad experiences I’d appreciate it, especially with cost/coverage changing as your pet gets older.
Then there’s trupanion, which I love that they claim to not increase the price as your pet gets older, but I’m unsure about their deductible since it’s per condition instead of annually. It seems great for pets that develop chronic conditions, but maybe not great for illnesses and accidents that I’m assuming would each fall under their own “condition” and thus leave you stuck paying the deductible every single time. If anyone can shed some light on this I’d appreciate it.
Last, nationwide was recommended to me by my sisters friends. For around the same price as trupanion, their coverage includes additional things like dental cleaning, wellness, exam fees, etc. I’m just worried about the price hike that might occur as my cat gets older.
Please give any recommendations and/or experiences, either with these three or with other insurances you’ve used ♥️
Embrace Pet Insurance - Embrace pet insurance
Going through Reddit before I got my Italian greyhound puppy, I came to the conclusion that dog insurance was a NECESSITY with this breed. I did a lot of comparing companies as well as reading reviews of each company with different scenarios and decided on embrace.
I currently pay ~$70/month and it’s been so worth it for me!
Deductible of $250/year with 90% reimbursement afterwards.
Well my Finn boy fractured his leg and we were devastated and overwhelmed by the guilt/fear/etc. We went straight to the ER and found out he needed surgery to have it repaired. (~$6,000). By reading the contracts and stipulations of the insurance agreement I knew it would be covered and there was no way we could have afforded it without insurance.
It did take a lot of hassle on my end. I had to call them several times to get my claim moving. I had to submit all of his documents (several different times). After calling a 4th time and them claiming they did not get the documents I ended up emailing the records to them as well. My claims were then put on “hold” due to insufficient documentation. I was at my wits end trying to come up with anything else they could possibly need. I called again explaining absolutely everything and the worker put notes into the file and sent it back to the adjusters. FINALLY a couple of days later (1 month total of waiting) I finally got reimbursed 🥳.
It was such a shit show but I was so relieved that it covered basically everything. My only complaint is that if you don’t pester them they don’t get anything done. The workers told me that the first claim always takes the longest to process and the next ones should only take a week or less. I hope that’s the case- hahah!
AAA - Has anyone had luck with getting your insurance to pay for stolen items such as jewelry that wasn’t appraised?
Was on family vacation when burglars robbed our home and ran away with our jewelry and watches adding up to $49K. Insurance (AAA) denied claim and paid $2500 for sub limit and for damages to the home adding up to $6K. I did not realize we were supposed to appraise each item, until this episode. I had a personal property coverage of up to $150K. Any guidance on how I may recover more here?
OptumRx - Optumrx keeps sending medications against approval?
I have messaged optumrx several times to stop automatically filling medications for me. I would like to do it manually because many times my doctors send orders for as needed medications that I use maybe once or twice a month and have years worth of usage from constantly having it sent. Despite attempts, they never fix the problem. What can I do?
