ASPCA - Average at best
Average at best. Rates increase, increase and increase for no good reason. Your typical insurance company, not much different from human healthcare.
I am sure there are better ones out there, but I also know from experience there are worse ones.
ASPCA - Disappointing claim service
They rejected a claim because they hadn't received past vet records, though we had sent them. I re-sent and they said they had received would review and expedite claim. That was 7 weeks ago, after I was told that now they did have the records. They just keep saying the same thing and do nothing. Very disappointing.
ASPCA - Dental cleaning is supposed to be…
Dental cleaning is supposed to be covered with our plan up to $100. Our dog usually gets dental cleaning every 3 years because that's when medically necessary as deemed by our vet. He did have to get an extraction due to chewing on something he was supposed to have, causing a fracture. While he was under anesthesia, they suggested to do the dental cleaning even though the tartar wasn't too bad. It saved us from putting him under anesthesia again (and he's older) later this year to undergo the cleaning. They wouldn't cover the cleaning becuase they said there was tartar mentioned in his notes 6 months ago. They only cover cleaning when there's nothing wrong with the teeth - no one will put their dog under anesthesia for a dental cleaning if there is nothing to clean. That is the only way they will cover it. Trying to get away with whatever they can to not cover something that clearly should be covered. Should be ashamed of themselves.
ASPCA - Terrible
Terrible. People with zero medical knowledge are following a vague flow chart that is divorced from reality. An allergy will prevent your pet from getting reimbursement for ANYTHING because they are "secondary symptoms." Giardia is NOT a symptom of an allergy. Simply garbage. Cancelling coverage now.
ASPCA - BE AWARE of hidden costs and exclusions!…
While ASPCA has created a very sleek and user-friendly interface for submitting and tracking a claim, I have found a NUMBER of deficiencies in their up front information and back-end service. While having a rep answer the phone quickly and having access to a kind veterinary nurse on the end of a telehealth line are all very helpful as a consumer - I was pretty floored to find that neutering and spaying aren't covered under their basic preventative care plan...the hard way. If you hope to be reimbursed for this VERY COMMON procedure, you MUST select their PRIME care package, in order to have any reimbursement for those costs. Since ASPCA did a poor job of making this information clear up front, I'm hoping this review saves someone else the trouble I've gone through. You have to read through all of the itemized treatments/procedures to see that it's not covered, which wasn't apparent, nor that there was even an upgraded insurance package available.
ASPCA - It's been 4 months
It's been 4 months, and there has been no payment of the claims submitted. All paperwork from the vet's office was submitted 3 separate times. They denied the claim, without notifying me, and stated when I reached out 3 times that they needed further documents PRIOR to the claim. I explained, repeatedly, that there are NO other records since she was a rescue from a family getting rid of the kitten. She has no other paperwork, and she was flown in from another state to save her. They said they'd note that and that would be fine.
No, they denied it again and claimed they needed a year's worth of documents prior to the submitted claim.
Again, I explained - there are NO other documents as she had never been seen previously.
Still...nothing.
They are clearly just reading from a script, as I hear the exact same wording again and again when I deal with the incompetent call center who has no power to effect change at all.
This company is fraudulent. Do not be fooled by the cute website and such. They are not in the healthcare business at all, and it's a real shame that the ASPCA would tarnish its name with these BUSINESS dealings.
Stick to rescuing animals, and stay out of the business side of dealing with animals, because this service is not about helping animals at all.
ASPCA - I pay $125 per month
I pay $125 per month, they covered $50 of the vet bill for well visit and did not cover the bortella vaccine. This is a requirement for dog boarding. I think this has become a very greedy company. I am afraid if there is a larger problem and they will over much less than expected. Disappointing company.
ASPCA - Go with Spot or AKC. ASPCA just wants your money
Paid into ASPCA pet insurance for 10 months for four cats to the tune of $2,500+ with virtually no claims other than a few preventative reimbursements, and when I actually did have a claim, for a congenital issue with one of my new kittens - literally added him to my policy and took him to the vet that day, he was diagnosed that day and I submitted a claim a few months later for his first round of treatment- they refused to cover the defect. Because he was born with this, and because he was seen before the waiting period had expired, they will not cover it. Had I known that even though ASPCA advertises 0 waiting periods everywhere, apparently the advertisements don't apply in my state, I would've gone with another insurance that does not have waiting periods, or I would've signed up for AKC insurance where they will cover pre-existing conditions after 365 days. Now I'm in a pickle, 7 months into my kittens coverage with this insurance, which could've been 7 months with AKC who would cover this congenital issue, or I could've worked with another insurance to get him coverage for this issue at the beginning. It's kind of a shame how they handled this situation. ASPCA doesn't care about your animals unless they can make money off of them.
ASPCA - Asked me to return their reimbursements
ASPCA has been great... until last week, they reached out to me saying they had an error in their system, and they accidentally approved several claims that I had over 6+ months ago that they now believe were potentially caused by a preexisting condition. Which is not the case. And they now have the audacity to ask me to repay them over $600 in the next 30 days from reimbursements they made to me literally over 6 months ago. Absolutely absurd and unacceptable. I am good about not submitting claims that are truly for preexisting conditions, so this is just truly disappointing.
