Geico - Geico rate increased because of “unreported accident”
I used to be insured by them and never had any accidents. I called roadside assistance once in 2022 because my tire had completely come off the wheel while my boyfriend was driving us back from the airport. Nothing happened, no crashes or collisions or injuries. We literally just pulled over and I wanted to see if someone could help us get another tire. I don’t recall what i said on the phone after explaining the situation but we didn’t end up getting help through my roadside assistance. Never heard a peep from geico about the incident. When they jacked up my rate almost 3x 2 year later and i asked why they didn’t have a reason, certainly not this “unreported accident,” but just said i was flagged as a high risk driver. I assumed at the time it was related to my drive easy habits.
Now i am with progressive but was thinking of switching back. The quote i got was reasonable, and right before i could purchase they asked me about this unreported incident involving my boyfriend and whether he was driver on my policy when it happened. He recently signed up with geico but i’m not sure how they connected his name because i don’t think they even asked when I called roadside, and he definitely didn’t report it.
I just find this very bizarre because they hadn’t asked me about this at all when I was under their insurance but now it’s being used as a reason to increase my policy quote.
GEICO - Rearended while stopped in traffic.
I was on the freeway heading out to go camping. I was going 0 mph. The van behind did not stop and smashed into me between 20-30 mph. I have a rear camera on my truck that showed him looking at his phone. I also recorded as soon as I got out of the car of him admiting to not stopping.
My car insurance (GEICO) gave me the option to go through them or the person that hit me. The van was a Xerox van. Their insurance is called American Way. I called them the day of and gave the police report. They said they use a 3rd party called Sedgwick. I paid 30k for my truck less than a year ago. 10k of that was because of all the add ons.
The other insurance company said I have to wait 5 days. The rear of the frame on my truck is facing the ground. I’m not sure about the rest of the frame. Most of the people I’ve talked to said they will probably total it.
I’ve also retained an attorney in my area for bodily injury. I work from home but, can’t sit at my desk for more than an hour. I’ve been seeing a chiropractor today and retained the attorney today.
They said it will likely take 6-9 months and would settle between 20-40k. This is only for medical.
Does this seem normal?
Will I be able to recoup the loss on my truck for the extra 10k ? It KBB blue books for around 20k but, I paid 30k.
I also had my Yakima box on the back and paddleboard which were destroyed.
My own insurance said even if I use them for the truck I will still have to use the other insurance to recover the loss on my things that were destroyed and if they repair my truck for finished value.
After 20 years of driving I’d never had a fender bender.
Should I just go ahead and use my own insurance?
Sorry for the rant.
Geico - Going after Geico for negligence?
I hit a deer in August. Geico totalled the truck when the repair costs were $7263 and they valued my truck at $12,043. That is only 60% of the value of the truck, and half of the estimated repair cost was paint. I had the vehicle repaired by October. Geico told me I need to submit a physical copy of the salvage title application. I asked multiple times if i could submit it via pdf but they said no. I submitted the application in September, and never heard anything back. By December I reached out to the DMV about it and they said they had contacted Geico November 6th saying my application was denied because it was handwritten. Geico never reached out to me about this, and at this point I had been out of a vehicle for 4 months. They offered no compensation at all. No rental car. As of March 13th I still have not been able to get the truck on the road. Everyone in my life knows that this has beaten me to death emotionally and mentally. I believe Geico totaled my vehicle unfairly, and then made the rest of the process incredibly difficult. This has cost me a lot of money and has stressed me out more than anything I have ever experienced.
Geico - Do I need to sue my ex?
A few years ago, I co-signed with my ex boyfriend, we were dating at the time, on a 2019 dodge charger scat pack. We had a verbal agreement that he would be responsible for the payments. He got very behind on payments to the point it got repossessed. His dad paid to get it back so they could sell it since he couldn’t make payments. In September, it was stollen in Memphis (has video proof and police report) and never recovered. He filed a theft claim with his geico insurance but since I’m not on the policy they won’t give me any information on the status of the claim. My ex also isn’t being cooperative and won’t respond to me with any information either. The auto loan still hasn’t been paid on. On April 1, the auto loan lender, Capitol One, said they will pursue legal action against us. I’m considering bankruptcy as a last straw possibility. I’ve tried everything I can think of and I just don’t know what to do now. I’ve been trying to contact lawyers in my area but they either say they don’t do that kind of law or there’s a wait to hear back from them.
GEICO - Partially at fault for an accident I was not involved in.
I am being found partially at fault for an accident I was not involved in, and I need some advice. Here's the situation:
I was driving up to a busy intersection where the traffic lights were not working. I was in the left turn lane, waiting for my turn to go. Cars to my left were crossing, and once they passed, it would be my turn to proceed. As those cars started passing, I began to pull out, but I noticed a car behind them, still approaching the intersection. This car did not stop and just went through, even though it was not their turn.
I kept going a little, hoping they would stop since it was clearly not their turn, but when they didn’t, I stopped to let them pass. At this point, I was already in the intersection, close to their path but not in the way. They could have passed me without hitting me. However, as they started to pass and I was completely stopped, they suddenly swerved left. I think they either didn’t notice me initially or assumed I was still moving forward, and they ended up hitting the car in the lane to their left—another car that also went out of turn.
Since I didn’t think I was involved in the incident, I didn’t stop and just continued on my way. About a week later, I received an email saying that a claim had been filed. The car that was hit was a Tesla, and it had a camera that recorded my license plate number.
I called my adjuster, and they told me the police report placed me at fault. The report claimed the officer saw video footage from the Tesla showing that I didn’t have the right of way and went when it wasn’t my turn. I asked my adjuster if he had seen the footage, and he said the attorney (both cars are claiming injuries and filing lawsuits) had sent only the footage from the Tesla's side camera. The attorney refused to provide footage from the front camera. Even from the side camera, my adjuster noticed a car ahead of the one that swerved which would indicate they went behind the car in front of them and did not have the right of way because they never stopped at the stop sign., but when he pointed it out, the attorney claimed he was mistaken and insisted the other driver had the right of way, not me. They refuse to provide any other videos or even a longer version of the video that would show they never stopped at the intersection.
I actually have a dashcam in my car, but I didn’t think to save the footage, and by the time the claim was filed, it had been overwritten on my memory card. I gave a full statement to my adjuster detailing my version of the incident. I also contacted the insurance companies for both other vehicles (both GEICO), and they said they were accepting 100% liability for the car that swerved and didn’t need my statement.
Two weeks later, my adjuster called and told me that, because the police report said the officer saw video footage placing me at fault and both claimants agreed I was at fault, he would be accepting 50% liability and paying out policy limits to the injured parties.
Is there anything I can do at this point? I requested the body-worn camera footage, but it would cost $245 and wouldn’t be available for 6-9 months, so that seems pointless. I am actually a PD claims adjuster myself, but I’m just flabbergasted and don’t know what else I can do.
Geico - auto ins quote before being licensed
hi! very new to the world of insurance. i just got my permit and bought my own car, im 22 and trying to speed up this process because not being licensed or having a car is making my wallet take a HIT.
*(i learned how to drive and got a permit when i was 16, never got a car/license due to covid, turned 21 and decided just not to renew the permit because i assumed id never need it)*
i just bought my car last week, my dad is currently fixing it, just need to replace the solenoid. and then i'll be driving around and brushing up on my skills. all that annoying backstory aside, i'm trying to get an auto ins quote and cannot find anywhere to get one, tried geico and they won't give me a quote of how much id pay monthly, just how much id pay the day i signed up. tried progressive and got absolutely jack. i just want somewhere i can find out roughly how much id be paying, my dad said there's dozens of sites where you can find a quick ballpark quote and i can't seem to find a single one, help?
GEICO - Denial of automobile insurance claim
I was involved in a car accident. I called the local police after the accident who came and filed a police report. After waiting for the form to be validated I obtained a copy from the DMV and provided it to the insurance. The police issued the other driver a ticket for failure to yield as she was pulling out of her driveway on to the road. I was traveling on the road and was unable to stop or avoid her in time and hit her car in the road. I took pictures of the accident which shows my car pulled over on the road, debris in the road and her car pushed onto the shoulder. I assumed with the police report and my other evidence I would be successful in filing a claim against her insurance.
The insurance company notified that they will not pay for repairs to my vehicle as the other drivers statement does not match mine or the police report. They stated she is working to amend the police report. I’ve never heard of this so I called the police who told me the chances of getting the report amended are very slim and likely not to happen. The other driver claims she was stopped for several seconds and I should have been able to avoid her. The roads were covered with snow so stopping times were increased, I could not stop in time.
I have no collision as my car isn’t worth very much and now have no way to repair it. Does anyone have experience in a similar situation on what my best options are with the evidence I have? So far I have filed a complaint with my states department of financial services, request a copy of the decision and appeal process with the insurance and stared researching the small claims court process. The insurance company refusing to pay is GEICO if that matters. Any advice to recoup some compensation for my damaged car is appreciated.
tldr: got in accident other driver ticketed insurance refuses to pay for repair
Geico - NYS - looking to switch insurance carriers
I have Geico. My premium shot up another $150 yet again for a 6mo period. They blame NYS, but this has been the norm for them since joining them in Apr '21.
I want to shop around for full coverage insurance for my car, but unsure of who's even "affordable" anymore.
For those in NYS who switched off of Geico, which company did you end up going with? Did they provide similar coverage at a cheaper cost?
Geico - Home insurance went through the roof
I was paying my mortgage online, noticed that mortgage paid my hazard insurance at $4860, when I was paying like $2800 prior year, called agent and asked Wtf, 10 days later he got it to 3800/yr, cars at Geico because best rate, Went to GEICO for homeowners and bundled with my car insurance now $2,680. Also GEICO takes 10minutes to get a quote.
Geico - Total loss in Florida
Struck my uninsured motorcyclist. Car incurred 17,800 in damages. Claim against my insurance in Florida (geico).
Car is a 2020 dodge challenger with 60k miles. Geo is saying the total loss threshold is 75%. But everything I find online says Florida is 80%. But when I read the actual statute it reads as though it may only apply to uninsured vehicles.
I believe the kbb on the car is between 22.5 and 25. Which means that 5% can make or break this car being totaled. The car is paid off and I want to avoid it being totaled at all costs. I was also told by geico I cannot get a second opinion on the repair costs.
They have not given me the acv of the vehicles yet and are still working on it.
