Hagerty - 3rd Party Appraiser - Totaled Car
My car is a **1989 Honda Civic RT4WD Standard** — these are practically unheard of now. I know insurance companies won’t pay for uninsured upgrades, but I recently spent **over $8k** on paint and body work to restore it to factory condition. The paint, trim, wheels, and tires are perfect.
Unfortunately, we had a hailstorm while I wasn’t home, and the car got **hammered**. The insurance company is using comps from the much less desirable **2WD automatic** version, which sells for around $5k. I can’t even find a standard RT4WD for sale, but the closest condition autos I can find go for close to **$10k**. Similar Japanese “Beagle” versions are also around $10k.
The insurance company says they can only use **dealership** listings (not private party), and since neither I nor the adjuster can find a dealer listing for my model, they’ve offered me **$4k**. I know it’s worth much more.
I’m looking to get a **3rd-party valuation** but don’t know where to start. Has anyone here actually used a company for this and can share their experience? I can Google, but I’d prefer first-hand recommendations.
Once this is resolved, I plan to move the car to **Hagerty** since they seem to handle collector/older car valuations much better.
Hagerty - Hagerty Agree value polity - Online or local agent?
Hello,
Considering a agree value policy for a 2004 Lexus LS via Hagerty.
While I was able to get a quote and even approval online with Hagerty, before paying I wanted to talk to them. The wait times were pretty long. Is it a bad idea to deal with them when there is no local agent?
Now, those who have agreed value collector car policy with Hagerty, did you do it all online? Or did you go with a local agent if there are local agents for Hagerty?
thanks.
Hagerty - Hagerty / Specialty Car Insurance _ Audi B5 S4
I've had a Hagerty policy for about 4 years on my B5 S4. For context, I live on Long Island, NY. Around December of last year I made a decision to remove the insurance and plates from the vehicle due to other priorities in life. Over the years, my annual policy rate typically ranged between $600 to $720 with an agreed upon value of $15k. Deductibles were $500 and property damage / bodily injury was set to $100k/300k with supplemental at $50k.
The time has come to get insurance and plates for the car, again. I got a quote from Hagerty yesterday and it came up to $2370 per year! The policy was configured identically to the last quote I received for renewal in February of 2025 which was quoted at $719 for the year. My driving record, credit score and address is the same.
I called up to have someone review and validate that I have configured the quote criteria exactly as the recently canceled policy. The Hagerty rep confirmed the policy configuration and was also shocked by the difference in the quote. She mentioned that there was an increase recently to all NY issued policies but she did not have any other value added info.
Do any of you fellow redditors have a recommendation for a specialty vehicle policy with other companies? I filled out an additional application with Grundy that is currently under review.
