Healthy Paws - Healthy Paws Pet Insurance
I wish I could give 0 stars. I’ve been a loyal Healthy Paws customer for 13 and a half years—since the day I brought my puppy Bellah home. Over the years, I’ve paid thousands of dollars into this policy with the trust and belief that when the time came—especially in her final stages of life—Healthy Paws would be there for us.
Instead, with no prior notice, Bellah’s monthly premium has been raised from $250 to nearly $800. At nearly 14 years old, with limited time left, my dog is being priced out of her coverage when she needs it most.
I’ve called. I’ve waited. I’ve been hung up on. I’ve sat on hold for hours, only to speak to customer service reps who are either powerless or unwilling to help. Not a single person has shown any compassion or even attempted to work with me. I wasn’t expecting a miracle—but I did expect humanity.
Bellah is not just a pet—she is family. And now, in what should be her most peaceful time, she is being made into a financial burden. After over a decade of loyalty, this is the treatment we’ve received: silence, indifference, and a quadrupled premium.
Healthy Paws, this is not how we honor the animals who have given us their unconditional love. This is not dignity. This is not care. This is not right.
Healthy Paws - I was paying $178.47 a month for my 11…
I was paying $178.47 a month for my 11 year old Aussie. This month, the "new" monthly amount is $476.95. That is a MONTHLY increase amount of $298.48. That is CRIMINAL. I confirmed when I signed up that they only go up a pro-rated amount, which depends on what their overall costs have been for the year, and adjust accordingly. This company is sickening.

Healthy Paws - Unjustifiable, exorbitant and unfathomable premium increases over 14 years.
I insured my dog when he was only a few months old in 2012 at a monthly premium of $30.21. With annual increases as much as 36.25% my new monthly premium for 2025 is now $480.76. I had to let the policy expire. I’m retired, living on Social Security, and that’s more than two and a half times my monthly Medicare Premium.
On top of that, regarding on my last two claims, they denied medications consistently covered in the past. They’re making up the rules as they go.
Healthy Paws - Healthy Paws is Messing With Us/Not Paying Claims/Not Responding to Phone Calls
We purchased Healthy Paws insurance when our dog was less than a year old. She is now 11 and has had health problems in the past couple of years. She has a degenerative heart valve. She went blind a year ago from SARDS. She has had extremely high liver enzymes, which consistently climb. We see a cardiologist for her heart (twice a a year for an exam and an echo). We order her heart meds from Chewy and never submit for reimbursement. We have been seeing an IM vet w/regard to her liver and recently they did an abdominal ultrasound and did a fine needle aspirate. We submitted the above mentioned claims in early July (more than a month ago). To make a long story short: They are messing with us. We check on the website to see if they have processed the claim .... "in process" .... "need more information".
We ask, what information? We've been doing the same thing we've been doing for years, which is to send the copy of the invoice and send the copy of the discharge summary. We submitted everything all over again. Still "in process" and "need more information". Early on, their message said they were "unable to read the invoice." I looked at what we sent them. Nope, it was a perfect image. I took the photo over (another good photo) and re-sent it. Time keeps going by. Husband calls them -- they say -- well, it's in process and we have to process them in order and if one is in "process" we cannot move on with the others that you submitted. I called yesterday. Got a claim rep that didn't have great English speaking skills. I told her that I wanted to speak to a Customer Service rep because I had a complaint. She tried to be that person. No, I said -- I want a Customer Service rep. She puts me on hold. A song comes on, that repeats itself, every 30 seconds. About every 5 minutes or so, she comes back on the line to say, "I'm reaching out to a Customer Service representative" and then in a mini-second, it's back to that 30 second repetitive recording. I stayed on hold, like that, for a half an hour. The next time she got on the line, I said, "Wait a minute, wait a minute. You don't actually have anyone on the other line, do you?" She didn't. I vented to her a bit. She said I would get a phone call by the end of the day from a Customer Service rep. I didn't. At this point, we are paying a lot for our monthly premium (which goes up significantly each year now). So we're paying for a big premium and they aren't paying the claims. They advertize that claims are processed in 2-3 days. This is the first time it's been over 30 days. This bill is for $1500. It feels as though they are purposely straggling things out, so they don't have to reimburse us in a timely manner. Our dog is a senior dog with health issues. What insurance company would take her now? None. It reminds me of when my elderly mother (in her mid 90's) was in a nursing home in our small town. Mom ended up getting cancer (during those four years she was i
Healthy Paws - Don't buy Pet insurance, it's a scam!!
I have been paying for Healthy Paws pet insurance for 10 years for 2 dogs. Now that my dogs are older they raised my premium almost to $7000.00 for the year. The reason that Healthy Paws gave me was that my dogs are older now. Isn't that why you start paying pet insurance when your dogs are younger so that when they need it when they get older it is available to you at a reasonable price? It is a scam! You are better off putting money away in an account for your pets and do not pay for pet insurance.
Healthy Paws - Overprice
I started with them when my dog was 6 months old. At that time, I was paying about $50 per month. Now, he is 8 years old, and I pay $193/month.
Healthy Paws - Unbelievable rate increases
I see I'm not the only one who had to drop insurance with Healthy Pets after many years because of rate increases. In the nine years I was with them, I only had one claim. Then the rate doubled, then tripled. When I asked why, they said it was because I live in an expensive state. I stayed with them because I thought my dog's age meant I had no better options. After the rate increased to $500 a month, I finally dropped them.
Healthy Paws - Claim taking weeks to review as they ask for information I’ve already provided
Healthy paws advertises in big print on their front page that most claims are settled in two days.
I’m over three weeks into mine. They sent me an email saying that the invoice I sent isn’t valid, because it needs to be itemized and contain a bunch of specific details. It was itemized and contained everything they listed. So I called and talked to an agent who looked at the bill, agreed it was itemized and said she’d tell the underwriter to review it as is.
The status of my claim updated to in progress, but a few days later I logged in to check and it was back to requesting the same information, except this time they didn’t email me or give any notice.
I emailed and explained in detail that my invoice fit all their requirements. They responded with a generic email asking for an itemized invoice.
These people are unethical, morons or both. Don’t deal with them.
Healthy Paws - They are a scam
Started at a reasonable price per month for my 2 cats. Every year the monthly cost went up $5-10.I have never made a claim. After around 9 years, just got a notice they are raising my premium around 300%! For no reason, when they advertised to enroll your pet at early age so you would not have these type of premium increases. Putting the money in a savings account rather than paying them any more, crazy scam.
