Healthy Paws - Greedy company increases premiums by 80%
I was with HealthyPaws for 12 years. I canceled my policy when they jacked up my premium from $50 a month to $90 a month and refused to work with me on price. STEER CLEAR. They were a decent company 12 years ago but they are greedy and not at all customer-oriented now.
Healthy Paws - Horrible experience with this company
I had Healthy Paws for nearly a decade, and they assured me that they would never raise premiums based on age or claims. Unfortunately, that promise changed. When my dog turned 8/9 years old, they've increased his premium to $250 a month, which is more than my own health insurance. Looking back, I regret paying the increasing rates over the years. In ten years, I had only been reimbursed between $250 and $500 but paid exponentially.
My dog had been with Healthy Paws since he was just a few weeks old. A few months before the largest premium hike, he had a $350 emergency visit that they denied, claiming it was a pre-existing condition. This was puzzling, as he had no prior conditions, and I had to have a check-up at their request prior to him being insured. They even asked me to resend all his records from the past years. After some back and forth, they eventually paid some of the claim, minus a $100 deductible, but the stress of dealing with them while taking care of my sick dog and the insane premium increases caused me to cancel my insurance as I wasn’t seeing the value for what I had been paying.
I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for pet insurance or considering setting aside money in a savings or money market account instead. Be sure to check Better Business Bureau reviews before making a decision. I've looked into potential class action suits but only found one in Washington.
Healthy Paws - Policy premiums increase EVERY year. Double within 2 years
I have had a policy with Healthy Paws for less than 2 years and my premium has DOUBLED!!!. This is extortion. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL. Reading other reviews as well looks like they increase their premiums EVERY YEAR. This is absolutely ridiculous especially since there are no added benefits to the price increase. Look elsewhere for insurance, trust me you will regret getting a policy with them as much as I am regretting it.
Healthy Paws - horrible expereince
I had healthy paws years ago for our previous pets and it was great, but I got it for our 2 new cats and so far it is has been horrible. Every single claim they reject for reasons that don't make sense. (They either say it is preventative when it is a test for symptoms) or they say it was during our waiting period when it was weeks after. Or when I send vet records (what the vet gave us) they say it isn't the correct records. Clearly just trying to give the run around and not pay. Really disappointed.
Healthy Paws - Chubb bought and ruined Healthy Paws
Since Chubb bought them in April 2024 there's been a distinct shift in how they treat customers. They deny everything, claims people are downright rude and they've cut coverage and increased prices. No longer offer a 90% reimbursement. Max is 80% and it's more expensive than the 90% was.
Go elsewhere. HealthyPaws is definitely no longer any good.
Healthy Paws - Completely unhelpful
Completely unhelpful, insensitive and useless. Did not help my cat at all in a serious condition.
Healthy Paws - Terrible when you need them.
Terrible when you need them.
I was with them for 7 years, and they can cancel you without giving options, leaving you stranded when you need them most. They will say whatever you want to hear to sign you up—don't fall for it. Poor customer service; they don't care. You've been warned.
Healthy Paws - I’m incredibly disappointed with…
I’m incredibly disappointed with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. After being a loyal customer since 2012, I was hit with a shocking 50% premium increase from November to December 2024. I’ve been covering my two senior cats, Indah and Bella, and this jump feels not only unreasonable but downright unsustainable.
For over a decade, I’ve spoken highly of Healthy Paws, recommending it to friends, family, and even through my work as a board member for a nonprofit dog rescue. But this recent premium hike has made it impossible for me to keep coverage for my cats. At their age, switching to a new provider isn’t even an option.
It honestly feels like Healthy Paws is pricing out senior pets—the ones who might actually need coverage the most. This leaves a bad taste and feels like a betrayal of the trust I placed in this company.
I’ve now had to cancel both policies, and I’ll be sharing my negative experience widely to encourage others to explore alternative providers. Healthy Paws, you’ve let down a long-term customer and, more importantly, two pets who deserved better.
Healthy Paws - Beware
Beware! I paid then cancelled in a lotted time (like immediately) and requested stop payment but they went a head and took 2 months out. Called them and nothing was resolved.
Healthy Paws - More insurance company shenanigans
This company sits at what is wrong with insurance these days--I had to create a second account for another animal per their rules and when confusion arose concerning billing and cancellation, they refused to reinstate my account even though the cancellation was unintentional and involved a compromised credit card. The agent agreed to reinstate my account after getting "approval" then the next day they canceled that "approval". They raised rates every year.
