Healthy Paws - BEWARE OF HEALTHY PAWS!
BEWARE OF HEALTHY PAWS!
After 9 years of loyalty and paying their ever escalating premiums, they decided with a 60 days notice stating 8/1/25
ALL dogs 7 years plus received a 40% reduction in coverage, my deductible went from $100 to $1,000. Basically it is now health catastrophe insurance. They do not cover wellness
Had I had known this I would’ve started my puppy with another insurance company that’s more solid like Embrace. I realize these newer companies start you off on a low premium with great deductibles and coverage and then all of a sudden either drop you totally or drastically reduce the benefits, upping the premiums and upping the deductible by 1000%. Now I can’t switch him because he has pre-existing conditions so I’m stuck with a high premium $1000 deductible and a 50% coverage. Go on Reddit, FB etc. and you see people’s reviews.
This new policy just happened August 2025.
BEWARE OF HEALTHY PAWS
Healthy Paws - Not worth it, hidden escalation, less coverage, poor response to policy holders
Have been a customer for 10 years with our dog. While the claims process has been fine over the years, slowly but surely they’ve raised premiums and reduced coverage. Now, they announced changes that more than double the monthly premium. So at 110+/month and minimum deductible of $750, I need to pay more than $2000 in a year before I am able to only be reimbursed 50%. Not sure how that is worth it for most people with relatively healthy dogs like ours. I won’t be returning as a customer in the future given their poor response to these changes when I called and messaged for an explanation, won’t recommend them.
Healthy Paws - Sharp increase of monthly fee
As many have posted, they are increasing the monthly fee from $77 to $111, a more than 44% increase! I would understand a 5 to 10 pp increase year over year, but I did not expect such a significant jump in one single year.
Healthy Paws - been with healthy paws for over a year…
been with healthy paws for over a year and paying for my pet's coverage. first claim i submit - and they want his medical files going back before he was rescued as a stray over 2 years ago. obviously these don't exist. basically if you have a rescue, there's no coverage. I can't believe I gave them any money. trying to cancel coverage and even that is difficult
Healthy Paws - New Math invented by Healthy Paws
Yes, honest and helpful.... really ? I have purchased insurance from Healthy Paws when my dog was 5.5 years old ( in 2017): I chose 70% company-30% me, and 500$ deductible. I have paid for 7-8 years, never used it. They don't pay regular visits. I took my baby to ER back in January 2025. After a short visit of few hours the final bill was $1000. My deductible was $500, so then they should have paid 70% according with my plan. They said they don't pay the visit ( $250), so I was left with 250$ bill hoping to get 70% which means $175.00... well Healthy Paws invented a new Math and sent me a check of $46. Please be aware they do not cover the percentage they said !!!!
For Healthy Paws: I am not interested in your excuses and explanations !! Math is Math: you should post your percentage rule on your site so people are aware of this scam ! I have stopped paying the insurance. My baby is 13.5, still doing good. I have meant to write a review for very long time. I also want to bring to attention the increasing of cost is astronomical !!!! I have read reviews that say the increase was above like 1000 %.
They want you to pay , but they always find excuses not to cover !!!!
Healthy Paws - BUYER BEWARE - Coverage Drop at Age 7!
Just received my renewal after 10 years of covering our dog since he was a puppy. I've paid the expected rate increases each year. I've held a $250 deductible with 90% reimbursement coverage the entire time.
This year my coverage is being unilaterally changed from a $250 deductible to $500 and the company is reducing reimbursement to 70% and of course they are raising my overall premium despite a significant reduction in coverage.
After talking to customer service - it sounds like the company the company has made a broad decision that all 7+ year old dogs will no longer be eligible for the coverage limits. While young dogs can still sign up for increased coverage, there is a steep drop as your dog ages.
My original thinking was that you select your Pet Insurance while a puppy and keep it consistent. You don't want to have to switch when they get older in case of "preexisting conditions" which create challenges for new coverage. This change backs you into corner. BUYERS PLEASE PROCEED WITH EYES WIDE OPEN.
To Healthy Paws -- you used to be such a great and promising company in this space. This is so disappointing. To the leaders, based on my reading reviews, I'm not the first to have this experience. Your lack of honoring those who have invested in your past success - should have consequences.
Healthy Paws - Healthy Pet Insurance never paid one…
Healthy Pet Insurance never paid one claim that I submitted, and then they more than doubled my rates.
You are far better off self-funding your own insurance. Beware.
Healthy Paws - Do not use healthy paws
Healthy paws was a great company years ago. Now they constantly raise rates with no reason. This time my pets insurance went from $180 a month to $375 a month. We started at $80 a month.
They also try to say they need your pets medical history but aren't receiving the files. I literally sent it 5 different ways and I did not receive a confirmation until I told them they would be speaking to my lawyer
Do not use this company, there are so many options these days.
Healthy Paws - Bait and switch. Huge premium Increases
Have had pet insurance with them for 23 years. Policy typically increased 10-30% annually. My dog has required little treatment and has incurred little costs.
Got a notice that they are increasing the premium 270%. Have written them 3 times. California Department of Insurance says they are only authorized to increase it a maximum of 44%.
Healthy paws never responds … just sends me a copy of the increase with no justification.
They were good until they got acquired years ago, and are coasting off their initial good reputation.
Healthy Paws - Waste of Money
I took out an insurance policy on my dog as a young puppy. He has been healthy and never had a claim. After paying premiums for him for 5 years, and another rescue for an addition year, I finally filed a claim. My border collie was accidentally poisoned after licking a chemotherapy cream on my arm. After calling my vet, was told to contact animal poison control. There was a charge, and they advised emergency treatment because the prognosis was grim. Part of their charge was working with the ER vets for treatment. I immediately rushed him to the Emergency Vet hospital where he was evaluated and they followed a three week protocol as advised by poison control. He was given meds, daily blood work and watched for neurological symptoms. The last blood test was taken by my personal vet. We were lucky he didn’t ingest enough of the cream to kill him.. For that I’m extremely grateful, and have advised my own dermatologist to warn patients using the chemotherapy cream if they have pets. I submitted all of my dog’s medical records and bills for his total treatment to Healthy Paws. After submitting my claim, they didn’t even approve enough of the costs to even cover my deductible. I cancelled my policy on both dogs citing rising costs of premiums and dissatisfaction with the lack of reimbursement on veterinary services.
