MetLife - I have had a horrible experience with…
I have had a horrible experience with MetLife Pet insurance. They do a great job of selling the program, but when it comes time to pay you back for the claims once you hit your deductible, they continually find reasons why they can’t honor that claim it has been unbelievable. I spend hours on the phone and still get nothing done. Don’t do it!
MetLife - The linger and decline payments for NO reason
I adopted 2 healthy 4mo kittens from a shelter and paid $750/yr to insure two kittens and added preventative care add-on option. They declined my first vet visit for “pre existing condition “ no explanation. Then they declined my 2nd visit doing routine vaccines (which should be covered under the add-on). No explanation this time. The app just says it was mailed to me but I didn’t receive anything . Also this took weeks for them to do. Really frustrating process which makes no sense. Complete waste of money and time.
MetLife - Waste of time and money
Denied claims for being a prior condition when there was no diagnosis prior to insurance being purchased
Was not given the oppertunity to appeal or explain the claim.

MetLife - They make it hard to approve claims
First of all, they take forever to process a claim. On top of that, they will ask all sorts of history and soap paperwork. They make it hard for you and eventually deny the claim. Will NOT recommend.
MetLife - They take forever to process a claim
They take forever to process a claim. They will look for a reason to deny it.
MetLife - Bad experience made me give info twice and was denied
We have been a customer with MetLife for over a year, having switched from another insurance company, but we are now questioning whether it’s worth it.
In late February 2025, my dog tore her ACL in an isolated incident. The following day, we visited the vet where we’ve been patients for over two years and scheduled surgery for 3/11/2025. After the surgery, I requested a note from the doctor to stay ahead of any issues. I submitted my dog’s medical records, the vet’s note, and receipts to MetLife on Saturday, 3/15/2025. However, by 11 a.m. EST on 3/18/2025, the claim was denied, with MetLife stating it was a pre-existing condition. This is the fastest response I’ve ever received from them—about two weeks faster than usual.
When I called, I was informed that the claim had been reviewed by AI and was denied by the AI reviewing. I was told I now need to submit an appeal, which could take up to 45 business days for review. To proceed with the appeal, I need another note from my vet (which I already provided), as well as my vet’s signature on the appeal form, so I will have to return to the vet for this. Essentially, I am submitting everything twice before a human at MetLife will even review the claim. There was no way to have the case reopened without me having to go through all this work for them.
I was unable to get a clear explanation for the denial, as it was processed by a computer, not a person. I called MetLife at 11:40 a.m. EST on 3/18/2025, and they confirmed this process. The call was recorded by them, so I can prove what I was told.
I would also add to speak to anyone other than a call center employee is a 24-48hour call back time, so be prepared to wait.
If you plan to use MetLife, be prepared for double the work before they take any action. Also they raised their premiums by about 12% a month this year.
MetLife - Pre-exisiting condition--everything is!
Absolutely everything is a "pre-existing condition" even a tummy upset aka colitis. Wouldn't even apply the vet bill toward our annual deductible. This is the worst experience. You think you're doing the best for your pet and all you get is SCREWED.
MetLife - Bunch of crooks
Bunch of crooks. Called to cancel right away after accidentally adding their insurance plan when adopting my cat. Was told I'd receive a refund. Two months later and still nothing.
MetLife - I had to cancel an insurance within 24…
I recently had to cancel my insurance policy within 24 hours, and I was charged a $12 enrollment fee. Dianna, a manager from MetLife Pet Insurance, mentioned that while they will refund the premium, the $12 enrollment fee is non-refundable and isn’t included in the premium. Just a friendly heads-up for fellow pet owners!
