MetLife - Disappointing Experience
I’ve been paying over $120 a month for insurance on my two dogs, and unfortunately, my experience has been incredibly disappointing. My dog, Emmie, has had some mild itching, and when I submitted a claim, I was told it was considered a pre-existing condition due to “year-round” itching. However, I explained that this was caused by a shampoo issue with her groomer, and after changing shampoos, the problem cleared up.
I called and did an appeal, and even had the vet write a letter explaining that there was no diagnosis of a skin condition and that this should not be considered a pre-existing issue. Despite all this, they still denied the claim. They did pay for her food at first but then reprocessed the claim after I asked why they weren't covering her allergy medication—and ended up denying the food too.
MetLife - Disappointing Experience with Metlife

It’s incredibly frustrating to have to jump through so many hoops when there’s no diagnosis or prior condition. We even submitted records that showed Emmie has a clean and shiny coat, and nothing was ever diagnosed. I’m now working on my second appeal, but I shouldn’t have to do this. It feels like they are looking for any reason to deny claims, and it’s making me seriously consider canceling the policy. I should be able to trust that the insurance I’m paying for will be there when I need it, but that has not been the case.
I do not recommend this insurance company based on my experience.
MetLife - Confusing reply and the further instruction after i contacted Metlife.
I received this generic reply from Metlife 'Hello, Maurizio. We are sorry to hear of your frustrations regarding your experience with MetLife Pet Insurance. We would like to speak with you further regarding your experience. Please email us directly, with your contact information, at ..... and a team member will reach out to you directly. Thank you.'
When I contacted Metlife they gave me an email to the CEO. I can't believe this a joke over $12?
MetLife - please stay away if you love your pet
please stay away if you love your pet, they will endlessly ask for records that does not exists from years ago and deny claims in every way they can, and automatically deny claims for pre-existing condition, plus they will bombard your vet with numerous records request that is totally unnecessary, even if my vet had sent the records like on 5 different occassions.
MetLife - I have pet insurance
I have pet insurance. They deduct $250 per year for maintenance. And they are supposed to return 80%. In the end, they only returned $500 out of $1,600. They don't answer in the chat, the phone number doesn't work. They took $250 twice. And the rest of the amount was calculated in an unclear way. Out of a claim of $450, they returned $7!
MetLife - Metlife pet insurance is the worst
Metlife will endlessly ask for records over and over. They will call your vet asking for the same records that they have already received 100 times over. No matter how many times you submit them. They continue to stall in hopes that you will just give up. Metlife is the worst. Don't waste your time and money.
MetLife - Horrible
Horrible. They take their time to process your claim. Customer Support doesn't care or help with your claim. They clearly offer 5 to 10 days to process claims but somewhere withing your policy it says 30 days, where you can't see it. To me they offer time frame that they are not in compliance with. Submitted my claim on 4/2/2025.
MetLife - Extremely Disappointed with MetLife’s Poor Customer Service and Claims Process
I am incredibly disappointed with MetLife’s pet insurance service, particularly their customer service and claims process. I attempted to file a claim for my cat, providing all requested documents, but their app repeatedly flagged missing information, delaying my claim without clear guidance. When I contacted customer support to clarify, I was told I needed a “benefit document” from my previous pet insurance provider. This requirement is unreasonable and poorly communicated for several reasons:
I am no longer a customer of my previous insurer, making it extremely difficult to obtain such documents. MetLife never mentioned this requirement when I switched to their policy, leaving me blindsided.
If MetLife were my first pet insurance provider, would I be unable to file a claim simply because I lack a prior insurer? This policy feels designed to obstruct claims.
The customer service team offered no solutions, and their app is frustratingly unreliable. This experience has been the worst I’ve encountered with any insurance provider. MetLife’s lack of transparency and poor treatment of customers has left me deeply dissatisfied. I will not use any MetLife products again and strongly caution others against choosing their pet insurance.
MetLife - Horrible Filing Claims
I had met life for over a year and insured my 4 cats under them. In that one year I went to file a single claim for $148 for my cat who had an eye infection. My vet is amazing and this is not a review on my vet they are amazing. They gave me the typical sheet that they print out with all the costs and breakdown of the treatment. I took a picture and uploaded it to met life. They denied my claim stating they need a doctor's written notes on them, which the vet office has never heard of. The chart was very straight forward they examined my cat's eye, did a stain to check for scratches, and gave me antibiotics. I tried re-uploading it, denied again. The vet office does not have any other paperwork to give me then what they gave me. Will never use this again, I was paying over $120 a month to keep this pet insurance and have a good deductible and am completely over it.
MetLife - This company is TERRIBLE-DO NOT BUY
This company is awful. They deny claims and say undiagnosed conditions are pre-existing conditions. FRAUD!
