MetLife - Filing Claims is awful, request excesive amount of information for small things
My company moved from Nationwide to MetLife this year and it has been a AWFUL experience. Its been 1 month since I filed my claim and I weekly get emails of them asking for more information on a simple straight forward short vet visit. They have medical records, charts, receipts and continue to ask for something new each week. No one has ever been available in their "Chat" online feature. Some how my plan is more expensive and the coverage is nonexistent. Would not recommend to a friend. The only reason Im giving a star is because the lady that set up my plan initially was very nice on the phone. It was all down hill from there though.

Update 4/29/2036: response to MetLife Pet Insurance
Had you responded and made the correct determination the FIRST TIME this review would not have been necessary. As such, since this has happened EVERY SINGLE TIME I'VE SUBMITTED A CLAIM, I will not change my rating on TrustPilot. It's clear, after reading so many other reviews with the same exact experiences I've been subjected to, your method of reviewing claims needs a serious overhaul and your claims examiners need better training. Get your act together before you go out of business from all of the bad reviews.

Every time I submit a claim it's denied. I call and customer service says I'm right and the supervisor agrees and says it will be sent back to claims. It takes 3-4 calls just to get a claim approved. The first time they denied it THREE TIMES because my vet erroneously put the date of a grooming on the invoice along with the sick charges. The grooming was prior to the policy effective date and why moron knows grooming isn't covered. BUT, THEY WERE TOO STUPID OR LAZY TO LOOK AT THE DATES OF THE SICK VISIT, WHICH WERE VALID! CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPERVISOR agreed with me on all THREE CALLS. I FINALLY GOT PAID AFTER A MONTH. This time I was denied AGAIN for a sick visit. They approved the fecal exam and the medication but denied the vet visit which makes NO SENSE. They sent an appeal form after the second customer service rep told me I didn't need an appeal and shouldn't have been sent one. If you look on line there are many, many people that have had the same exact BAD EXPERIENCES that I've had.Multiple re-submissions and phone calls. One person wrote that he's covered for dental cleanings and they DENIED THE CLAIM SAYING IT WAS A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION BECAUSE THE DOG HAD PLAQUE! WHY ELSE WOULD YOU NEED A DENTAL CLEANING?
MetLife - Horrible experience not just once but twice
MetLife pet insurance is a scam. I first had them in march of 2024 and filed my first claim taking my dog to check for ear infection but got denied because in Feb 2023 when spayed vet checked ears and needed cleaning wasn’t treated for infection in Feb but because had vet checked ears that was considered pre existing issue. I canceled policy however in August I signed back up . In April 2025 I took dog in the have ears checked and no infection just gave wash for ears but guess what it got denied saying pre existing condition dates back to 2024. I will never do business with MetLife and I suggest to anyone find another provider who cares and doesn’t deny for something that wasn’t diagnosed and then to deny a year later saying pre existing. Dogs get things like humans do we get ear infections etc but we don’t get denied by our insurance for something that wasn’t diagnosed a year ago as pre existing. Beware as I spoke to both representative and manager who told me I had to go through this appeal process and have my vet also write something. They are not helpful and manager I spoke to Dianna shouldn’t be a manager. I’m going with another provider who will care about my dog and the fact that I pay my bill monthly. Companies like met life shouldn’t be in pet insurance
MetLife - They take FOREVER to process claims
They take FOREVER to process claims. Then they request additional documentation to take even more time to process your claim. I have had a legitimate claim open for almost a month. This company doesn’t want to pay and they are dragging it out.

I got this insurance thinking it would help protect my dog, Atom, in the event of an emergency. That turned out to be a complete joke. Atom had to undergo emergency surgery for an intestinal blockage after swallowing a rope—an obvious accident. But MetLife denied the claim, saying it was a “sickness.” Let me repeat that: they claimed swallowing a rope is a sickness. How does that even make sense?
And before even reviewing the claim, they tried to say my policy wasn’t active—a blatant lie. I had already paid and had full documentation proving my coverage was in place at the time of the surgery. I sent them five years of vet records, detailed surgical notes, invoices—everything they asked for. Still, they denied the claim.
To make things worse, they advertise that claims are processed in 10 business days. Mine dragged on for almost two months. Two months of silence, delays, and back-and-forth nonsense, only to get a denial based on a totally made-up excuse.
This company is the definition of predatory. They’ll take your monthly premiums and then twist reality to avoid paying out when it actually matters. The customer service is slow, unhelpful, and either uninformed or intentionally misleading. Based on my experience, it seems MetLife is in the business of collecting premiums and dodging responsibility.
MetLife Pet Insurance is not just unreliable—it’s dishonest. If you care about your pets and your peace of mind, look elsewhere. This company failed me and failed my dog when we needed them most.
Zero stars if I could.

MetLife - My other pet insurance was so easy to…
My other pet insurance was so easy to put in claim, here you ask for too much. Soap details? Receipt should be good enough
MetLife - MetLife doesn’t honor policies
I had MetLife pet insurance. When I needed to take my cat to the vet on account of vomiting and diarrhea. The exam was pretty standard, the invoice and vet notes I was supplied were straghtforward. Then MetLife tried to say I didn't include the vet notes (but I did). They say it only takes 5-10 days for them to process a claim. I waited 2 weeks and still heard nothing from them. So, I call and ask what is taking them so long. They said they were finalizing my claim. I found out later they had closed my claim and didn't even notify me (yep just dropped it). I felt like they were just jerking me around. So, I had no interest in continuing to talk with them since I had come to see that their costomer service personnel were clearly not honest with their customers. Furthermore I stopped paying them for the policy. Why should I give one more red cent to an insurance company that doesn't uphold their end of things and doesn't compensate their customers claims in accordance with the policies they are paying for? I won't give MetLife any more of my money or my business.
MetLife - Takes too long than other insurance…
Takes too long than other insurance companies to receive reimbursement. Also, company never seems content with the invoice for reimbursement
