I have two cats, Fox and Ollie. They are brothers and turn four in September. I got Nationwide Pet Insurance in July 2024 for the first time. I did not notice at the time, but their plans didn't match. Fox's was $189 for the year, Ollie was $190. I called to change the renewal policy so it was the same, and to add Behavioral coverage. I wanted to match Ollie's coverage to Fox's, add behavioral. Fox's renewal, with NO CHANGES, increases by $125/YEAR in July. The woman on the phone said it's "because he is a year older." Lady, he will be FOUR this year. FOUR. Current: $19/mo > $29/mo So, recommendations? They are two boys, indoor, vaccines up to date but no recent vet visit. I'm mildly concerned Ollie has a behavioral issue but no diagnosis and running off vibes and tiktok diagnosis, not real doctors. I am going to wait to take him to the vet about this until I have the right insurance policy JIC, but SHOULD I even have cat insurance?!?! Otherwise, they're two healthy young cats. Indoor. Thoughts?

I've had Nationwide Pet Insurance for the past four years and up until recently they have been great. Recently my dog had a bladder infection and they paid out for that with no problem. We were told she needed to be seen again in two weeks for a follow up urinalysis and culture. However last week she started having difficulty urinating, called the vet and they wanted her to go back on the antibiotic for another week. I submitted another claim for the antibiotic and Nationwide only issued a quarter of the amount. I called them and they said we hit the annual limit they will pay out for a bladder infection, anything else they'll still pay, but this they won't until the policy renews next year. This was the first I was learning this, likely because we've never had the same issue go over the limit. As mentioned the vet wanted a follow up urinalysis and culture to be sure it was cleared up and they won't pay it. UTIs tend to be common in female dogs, so it seems absurd. We had the follow up yesterday and upon talking to the doctor, they used to recommend Nationwide frequently to pet parents, but not anymore and also said Nationwide has been dropping a lot of pet insurance customers lately and that it's seeming like they are trying to get out of pet insurance. They gave me some brochures for several different options they recommend and from what I'm finding Nationwide is the only one that caps limits on diagnoses. So I'm looking at changing providers and wanted to see what others recommend. I'm considering the following: \-ASPCA pet insurance (through my auto/renter insurer) \-Figo (through Costco) \-MetLife \-Lemonade \-Pumpkin \-Embrace My auto/renters insurance company does offer plans with ASPCA pet insurance and I believe Spot. I talked with them for some time the other day and I'm leaning towards going with them. They also offer a 10% discount because of my insurance. As for MetLife, my vision plan is with them and they've been amazing, but don't know if that necessarily means their pet plans will be as good. Also Costco is offering 15% off for members for Figo. Fetch was recommended by the vet, but their prices were outrageous. I also had Pet's Best the first year of my dog's life prior to Nationwide and was not impressed by them. I'm having trouble figuring out what is covered and not covered under this plan.... My dog recently had an anal abscess the size of a kiwi so it needed to be removed immediately. Deductible is $250.00, and I'm just trying to see the benefits coverage but am having the most difficult time navigating the Nationwide Pet Insurance website; it's as if they do not want us finding out what's covered to utilize our insurance to the fullest. With this operation potentially maxing out my deductible, I have some other Wellness things I want to get taken care of, such as dental, or to see if I can do anal expressions every few months. Any insight on coverage?
