Pets Best - 80% increase with no claims
PetsBest just raised my insurance by 80% when I had no claims in over two years! This is outrageous, and may be related to the fact it was sold to another company last year, so we can expect more denied claims as they try to increase profits.
Pets Best - Pets Best - Incidental Finding during Waiting Period
Hi everyone!
We went with Pets Best for our kittens’ insurance, which starts for illness coverage on 8/21/25. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork was done last week in preparation for one of our kittens’ neuter scheduled on the 18th. The results came back a bit all over the place, which the vet wasn’t concerned by as he said it could be due to him being so young. However, the vet mentioned his T4 is elevated, which could suggest juvenile hyperthyroidism. We’ll need to retest in six months to see if it normalizes.
My question is: since this was found before the waiting period for illness coverage ended, and there are no symptoms, no official diagnosis, and no specific treatment or medical advice given yet, do you think Pets Best will consider this a pre-existing condition? A bit stressed that if it does come back as high in 6 months, something that seems like it may be a very expensive lifelong condition is going to be automatically excluded due to an incidental finding 😅
Pets Best - Pets Best premium increase. New policy with same company is 50% less. Why not submit new application?
Pets Best insurance premium increased 50% last month. Premium initially doubled when I moved from SC to NC 3 yrs ago then this additional 50%.
Current coverage;
- accident/illness - Unlimited, 90% reimbursement, $250 deductible.
-No well care. Annual premiums are only about $20 less than annual WellCare visit charge.
Ran a new quote online from same company. It is 50% of new premium (so less than premium before last month’s increase). Makes no sense.
1 dog - Doxy long-hair - 5 yrs old. Insurance with Pets Best since I got him at 6-8 weeks old. He’s generally healthy but I carry insurance because of typical issues a doxy can develop as they age.
The only vet visits he’s had outside of well care:
(1) Urgent care visit & call to poison control in 2022 after he got into medication (claim was made and they paid around $50).
(2) An out of town visit to vet when he had Gastro issues (throwing up/diarrhea) and wasn’t eating. Cause unknown. Given a round of antibiotics and no more issues. This vet isn’t on his records and I didn’t file a claim since it was under my deductible.
My questions:
(1) Outside of taking a chance that something happens during the waiting period of a new policy, is there any reason I shouldn’t apply for a new policy to get the lower premium?
(2) Will the prior poison visit be considered existing condition if there is another event? He was fine and hadn’t ingested anything harmful. They just watched him for a couple hours.
(3) Is the insurance company likely to pick up the out of town gastro visit and consider any future gastro issues an existing condition since I didn’t claim?
Thanks in advance for input.
Pets Best - Pets best. I am very angry
So this may slightly be my fault but I need to vent and need options. I have had pets best for 2 years. My golden retriever blew her ACL and I took her to a surgeon and they confirmed it. The entire process took 5 months. I called pets best to see how to proceed, they said to pay the bill and then send everything to them. So I did.
They just came back and said that they will not reimburse me because I don’t wait 6 months to have the surgery. WTF!!! and why would you not tell me when I called to ask how to proceed?!?
Am I just out of luck? Or do you think that this is worth fighting? I am out $7k now. This is why I had pet insurance in the first place!!!
Pets Best - If your Pets Best claims are being denied
I’ve received a series of new and confusing EOBs denying claims I usually had had no problem getting approved quickly before. Pets Best informed me on the phone that they have a new automated system that some claims get filtered into that is causing some claims to be incorrectly denied. Wanted to update and post here because their customer service truly is so helpful and kind, and if you call them they will fix your issues by flagging your denials for manual review.
Pets Best Insurance - Puppy Got Sick Right After Adoption—Pet Insurance Denied My Claim. Any Advice?
Hey everyone,
We recently adopted a puppy from a rescue center, and he’s been such a sweet little guy. On the same day we brought him home, we also signed up for pet insurance with Pets Best Insurance because I read a lot of good reviews.
Unfortunately, just about five days later, he got really sick and was diagnosed with puppy strangles. He’s been on corticosteroids for the past three weeks now, and we’ve had multiple vet visits—for treatment, vaccinations, and other related care. So far, I’ve paid around $1,000 out of pocket.
I submitted a claim to the insurance company, but they rejected it, saying it falls within the waiting period. I get that there’s a waiting period, but we had no idea he was going to get sick when we signed up for the policy.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Is there any way to appeal or get around the waiting period issue?
Also, if I switch to another insurance provider now, will this count as a pre-existing condition, and will they refuse to cover anything related to this illness?
Appreciate any advice or shared experiences—just trying to navigate this unexpected situation the best I can.
Thanks!
Pets Best - Pets Best Nightmare
We got pets best insurance a few years ago and this year our 9 year old dog was diagnosed with lymphoma. After a few months of receiving expected claims, they suddenly started denying everything, forcing us to appeal every time. After appeals, they usually end up paying, but it’s incredibly annoying. But this month, our policy renewal came and they DOUBLED our premium!! DOUBLED, in the first and only year where we actually made claims…. How is this legal? They say it’s across all their plans, but I don’t believe it for a second. Anyone have this happen?
Pets Best - Pets Best Massive Premium Hike
I've had this insurance for my great dane as soon as I adopted him at 1 yr 4 months. And it has suddenly quadrupled. I paid around $1k a year, unlimited, 80% reimbursement, and it was worth it due to random illnesses and injuries. When he hit 7 they doubled it to $2k a year (this year). We just moved from IN to CO and I got hit with an additional bill since now the premium is over $4k a year. Like what the hell is this?
Pets Best - Considering a policy rewrite with Petsbest for healthy dog
My dog is currently 4 years and his Petsbest policy is due for renewal in 2 months. He is turning 5 in 2 weeks. The premium will be increased by 70% at renewal (from $340 increased to $599 per year). I checked with a new email address and I think if I get a rewrite before his birthday the premium will be about the same price as I am paying now (i.e. $340, and that's about $250/year savings). If I do the rewrite after he turns 5 the new premium would be $426, still cheaper than the offered renewal rate of $599.
My dog is healthy and there has been no claims since 2021 other than wellness claims so I suppose there is no preexisting conditions. I am only a bit worried about the 6 months waiting period for ligament injury if I were to request for a rewrite. I am thinking about also getting an accident-only insurance from Spot during the waiting period to cover that risk. Has anyone done a rewrite before? If this is workable, is it a good idea to get a rewrite or consider switching every year before his birthday if the premium increases insanely, so long as my dog has not developed any preexisting conditions then?
Pets Best - Anyone actually had a good experience with dog insurance?
I’ve had Pets Best for about a year now for my mixed breed pup (healthy overall, just minor stuff like an ear infection and some stomach issues). I’m paying around $60/month, and every claim I’ve submitted either got denied or barely paid anything. They called one thing a pre-existing condition when it wasn’t even diagnosed until after I signed up.
Starting to feel like I’m wasting my money and might be better off just saving that monthly premium myself.
Has anyone here actually had a dog insurance plan that helped when you needed it? Open to switching if there’s a better option but I’m kinda losing hope tbh.
