Scoitabank - Do I have a valid reason to seek additional compensation from Scoitabank due to being misinformed?
Location: Toronto, Ontario CANADA 🇨🇦
A representative from Scoitabank assured me that I could extend the interest rate deduction program on my credit card for another six months, pending approval when the initial period ended. Unfortunately, when the six months were up, I called again and was informed by a different representative that the previous one had provided incorrect information. They explained that Scoitabank only offers this assistance every two years and that I was not eligible for help at this time. I was completely unaware of this policy, and the unexpected return of regular interest charges on my account has caused me significant emotional and financial distress.
Upon research I found that Scoitabank has violated the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) established in 2002, c. 30, Sched. A, s. 14 (1).
The calls are all recorded.
Scoitabank conducted an investigation and determined that they would offer me $368.00 for my distress, along with the closure of the case. My question is, can I pursue additional compensation for my suffering? Am I entitled to request more than what they have proposed?
Thank you for your time to respond! 🙏
