State Farm - Need advice
Hoping someone can provide some guidance for me as I am at point where I’m not to sure what to do.
I live in MD and was in an accident a few weeks ago. It wasn’t my fault a driver jumped a stop sign and I was on the cross road and they connected me.
Police came and the other driver immediately admitted fault. We are both with Statefarm so it’s been challenging dealing with this.
My car is financed and the claims department wants to pay about $2k less than what I owe on the loan. I don’t have gap insurance.
The claims department haven’t been the best in communication, but thankfully my Statefarm broker has been trying to help me convince them to just pay the difference on the loan because I have been a good customer with referrals and no claims. But now they have pretty much cut him off too.
I also just put about $4K into the car for new tires, brakes, oil change etc.
Where the bigger problem comes in, is that I don’t have funds to buy a new car or put a down payment down.
I have reached out privately to the other driver to discuss additional compensation from their end to at least get me to put a down payment on a new car, I am not expecting them to buy me a new car. I am still waiting for them to respond.
So here are my questions
Can I request that the insurance pays for the work that I put in less than 3 months ago?
Can I legally hold the other driver accountable for compensation for my loss and how would lawyers fees generally work with things like this.
I am the only one that brings in an income currently for the family as my wife has just started a new business and it is still in the early stages of taking off.
I really appreciate any help here.
State Farm - Midly annoyed with State Farm
I was in a minor fender bender in a parking lot. Other driver was turning into main drive. I was passing a car that was stopped so I was hard to see. I had minor scrape to left front bumper and other driver had minor scrape to left front. Probably about $1,000 damage to each car.
Exchanged info, he's an attorney who does work for state farm. I had camera in car, but actual collision was on side so actual impact not shown.
Sent my info and video to State Farm. Got an answer in one day. Was told it was inconclusive, and no one was at fault. So, we both pay our deductibles.
It seemed like State Farm looked at the option that would cost the company the least, especially with the speed the determination took place.
State Farm - State Farm Nightmare
I was rear ended in January and filed a claim with state farm
The girl who hit me was in her fathers car which had state farm, liability coverage she has dairyland with full coverage.
I am a State Farm customer (not after this) and was assured that this matter would be settled quickly. I was told by my first adjuster that my car was a total loss, since my car was newer that it would exceed her father’s liability coverage and they would open a claim with dairyland on my behalf to get the rest. They complete the estimate, do not contact me on what their assessments were and also changed my adjuster without contacting me whatsoever with my new adjusters contact information. I had to find this out on my own by calling after hearing nothing for two weeks after the estimate was complete. They said “maybe” my settlement would be 8k flat for reasons they seem to not be able to answer, they haven’t even offered me a settlement by this point. They said they valued my car at 11k. Which honestly would be a joke if it is 8k. I talked to my adjuster on Thursday and she is reading my information on my policy and for whatever reason State Farm has put that I have dairyland as my insurance on my claim.
I feel at this point my claim has been handled with complete negligence and I am at a loss on what to do, I genuinely would like to move on with my life as this has caused me a lot of emotional and psychological distress.
What are questions I could ask to understand this process more, or get traction with? Why would they open a claim on my behalf just to tell me to “do it myself” later on?
I have never been in a wreck like this before so this is just another learning experience, but I do not feel as if my claim is being handled properly or correctly. Any advice would be appreciated, also please don’t be rude as I am already going through enough with this debacle.
State Farm - State Farm vs Allstate claims processing
I am a SF policyholder that was rear ended by an AllState customer. I opened a claim with SF because I wasn’t sure of the Allstate customers limits and also wanted to use my PIP coverage from SF versus dealing with Allstate. That was an incredibly bad decision on my part. Allstate has done an OUTSTANDING job of handling my claim even though I am not a customer. They paid for 21 days of rental car within two days of me submitting my receipt. Allstate has been responsive by email and phone. SF on the other hand has been the worst customer service experience I have ever had. No response to emails, calls are routed to first line customer service that has zero knowledge and just submits a request or ticket to the actual claims handlers. My medical bills are going unpaid and now into collections, the hospital claim is sitting unhandled and the subrogation on the body damage is somewhere out in the ether waiting for one of the mystery claims handlers I can’t contact to handle. Jesus, my first claim with SF in over 30 years of being a policyholder and they treat my like a red headed step child and Allstate, who has no customer relationship with me, is johnny on the spot.
What a sad state of affairs that is SF. I have no idea how to get SF to move and handle their responsibilities short of a complaint to the Insurance commission. Is this the way it is with SF now?
State Farm - I’m at a loss
Recently my father passed away. I’m his only child and there was no will, however, I moved out a few years ago and my mom lived there with him even though they’re divorced. I never probated the house or got it put in my name so I’m sure that will be an issue later if I did want to file a claim through State Farm later on. What I need to know is if I should file a claim or fix it out of pocket? My mom has let the house go in a pretty terrible way. Before my dad passed it wasn’t great. The floor was bubbled up in some places and sunken in others. When the upstairs toilet overflowed the chandelier fell off the ceiling in the kitchen. He filed a claim through State Farm once in 20 years to get new carpet but it did not fix the underlying problem. Now there’s holes in the ceiling, in the floor, in the walls. And there’s rats. You sit on the couch and you can hear them scratching in the walls and running through the house. The back deck has unattached itself from the house and is falling apart. I feel so bad for my mom and I don’t even know what the problem is much less how to begin to fix it or who to call. Please please any kind of advice would help.
Edit: I think that the holes and the problems with the floor being sunken and swollen are from some kind of leak?? Maybe under the house but I’m not sure. I know insurance won’t get rid of rats or anything like that. I just wanted to know if the other stuff was able to be claimed had it been a result of something else like a leak.
State Farm - State farm policy change price?
I am getting a new car delivered to me friday and trading my old one in, I went to update my insurance policy through state farm & it’s showing my total change cost to be $733 just to remove my old car & add the new one. Is this normal? That seems insanely high
State Farm - Glass coverage in CA?
Got a crack on windshield recently and just found out there is no specific "Glass coverage" policy for me. What I'm trying to say is if I wanna use my insurance to replace the windshield then I need to use the main accident coverage or something to cover it and I have $1000 deductable since Safelite gives me a $1100 quote and if I use insurance it will make my rates higher in the future, so it's kinda worthless and means I have to pay the $1100 windshield by myself. I've heard some ppl have a specific glass coverage which means it will cover any glass replacement with 0 deductable and will not affect my rates.
So my question it's the CA thing or did I just pick the bad company? I have Statefarm for now since it's the "No.1" insurance company and I just don't wanna any trouble if one day I have some damage and need to claim. If it's the company, any recommendations? Ty.
State Farm - Looking for guidance
I was involved in a motor vehicle accident where I hit two other vehicles at an intersection. I live in an “At fault” state and both of the other drivers told the Peace officer that I ran the red light. The officer gave me a citation for running a red light which I will be contesting in court. I gave the officer my proof of insurance card which was expired.
Here’s where it gets interesting. The next day I contacted State Farm. State Farm told me that my insurance policy was canceled more than six months ago due to lack of payment. MY HEART SUNK. I canceled my credit card which was on an automatic payment cycle with them. They denied the claim as to be expected.
However, I have insurance through Progressive on a secondary car that I literally NEVER DRIVE. But I have full liability coverage through them on a secondary car.
My question. Will progressive cover the cost of the accident even if the truck was not on the policy? Will the other insurance companies go after progressive? Would progressive rather cover the cost upfront rather than go into litigation?
State Farm - Does anybody know or have had an awful experience with State Farm?
Does anybody know or have had a awful experience with State Farm? They have kept my car at a body shop. It was a front end collision. They fixed all the outside of the car. Even things that did not need to be replaced. When went to pick it up it was not drivable. We told them at the time of the crash that they stability. Track went out. They refused to fix that. They told me to have it towed to my dealership. And guess what? I can’t get a hold of their roadside assistance. And every time I call they act like they don’t even know Like there is no claim! How can that be? They still have my vehicle at the shop.
State Farm - Umbrella worth the cost?
Like home and car insurance in California, looks like Umbrella premiums have gone through roof. Is that true for others in Cali? I'm with State Farm.
$2M umbrella was a few hundred dollars last year; renewing now at $2400/year (no claims, no accidents, no lawsuits). 3 cars; 3 drivers. Own home. No pets, not much liability.
Anyone else got this sort of increase year over year?
