Giving my review a 3 star because of the person I talked to on the phone. This review would be a 1 star if it wasn’t for him. Honestly wish I had an email I could contact to put in a complaint about the last chat agent I spoke to. I told him to put in a note of a complaint of his service but he ended the chat immediately so he probably didn’t. So I’ll leave it here instead. Absolutely rude and ignorant chat agent. Considering I also work in insurance and wouldn’t be able to act that way to customers at my job was just absolutely floored :) The call agent I appreciated and he’s the only reason I didn’t cancel my service completely. The chat agent I spoke to before the person on the phone left a bad taste for me though and seemed like he knew absolutely nothing and was completely rude and defensive about it.

Coverage went from 82.80 to 106.50… my cat just turned 1 year old, never used the coverage, called and they simply don’t care I am looking elsewhere… on pension, no way to afford these ( there will be more) increases terrible customer service!! Terrible insurance Co. Btw I had to give it 1 star… should’ve been 0

Do not go through Trupanion. I have a six-year-old dog and I have invested $7000. Anytime I put in a claim Trupanion tells me, “she has a pre-existing condition” which is not true. I purchased my dog at 1 year old. How could she have a pre-existing condition at age one. I purchased her from a breeder and she was a show dog before I owned her. I would advise anyone looking at getting pet insurance to not go through Trupanion as they are just a money grab. I have now cancelled my insurance because I have already invested enough for a surgery or two which my dog doesn’t need. I have waisted my money on Trupanion to get 0 coverage in return.

I waited 3 weeks to receive my dogs medical report. Followed up 3 times and finally received it after my billing date. Was told twice that it takes 7- 10 business days for it. What took forever was because they were waiting on records from a vet i told them she never visited. And their response was that perhaps it was under a different name? So, we were essentially waiting on something that does not exist. But finally the third follow up her records were given to me right away. Medical report was ridiculous. Recorded on her report that she was timid (she was a puppy and it was one of her first visits) and another visit was restlessness (it was a re-check from her spay). So, what this means is that they can decline any claims if she seems restless. It's ridiculous. I chose at the time a 1000$ deductible. Which means that for every condition that is covered, i have to pay 1000$ first before they would cover anything. Which I was completely fooled into thinking this was the best for my dog. Other insurance companies offer an annual limit, cover sick exams, cover taxes etc. FOR THE SAME MONTHLY RATE at an actual RESONABLE deductible. I used to tell friends and family good things about trupanion. Not anymore. I hear more and more people with similar experiences. Who knows if this review will reach google. Trust me when I say there is MUCH better insurance options out there.

I signed up with Trupanion after reading the many positive reviews. As a fixed income senior, I made my deductible high, to ensure my monthly premiums would be what I could afford. Believing my premiums were fixed, I was upset to learn that the premiums indeed seem to increase each calendar year “due to increasing Vet costs…”?? They have gone up $25/month over the past 2 years, and are quickly becoming out of reach. This was not made clear when I signed up!

Everything with Trupanion becomes a pre-existing condition. A scratch my cat had from playing with other cats became a pre-existing condition and they won't pay anything skin/fur based. It sounds like good insurance but when everything becomes a pre-existing condition for the life of your pet, then it's really not insurance at all. I have a 2 year old cat who is perfectly healthy but they managed to find 4 pre-existing conditions covering 4 entire body systems and organs. Even my vet doesn't understand how they managed that.

Signed up mid 2023 with them to get insurance for my cat. with a $200 deductible I was paying $36/month. Over the course of 1.5 years they kept raising the prices slowly to now it being $60/month thats almost double than what I originally signed up for. I just moved to a different province and when I asked them to change the address on file they said my rate will go up to $115.... I was absolutely not going to pay that and when I asked them to cancel my policy they left me on hold for 40 minutes and then finally got back to me and gave me 100 different pitches as to why I should stay with them. I started to get annoyed and actually told them straight up that I'm not happy and I dont need a sales pitch I just need my policy cancelled right away and they just kept going trying to convince me. Ive never dealt with someone so horrible and annoying..

After paying $75-$105 monthly for my dog since I brought him home almost 10 years ago and NEVER needing to make a claim until his very last day I am so disappointed in what a waste this was. I was happy to pay as I didn’t want to worry about finances in an emergency and wanted to ensure I could help my dog. Well, with never missing a payment and only having a $200 deductible, Trupanion paid out $89 in my dogs end of life emergency. Oh, and they don’t cover the cost of cremation/burial, which I was told they did when I signed up! You’re better off putting your money into savings and holding it for a raining day as I feel like I threw it away!

Happily paid for 9.75 years never needing to make a claim but wanted to ensure in an emergency I did not have to worry. I paid $73-$105 a month over his life, it increases yearly even if you don't make a claim! Then when it came down to an end of life emergency, they paid out $89 (my deductible was only $200). Roughly $10,000 paid over his life time and they paid me $89. Let me preface by saying that when I signed up they told me the cost of burial/cremation is covered which is why I went with them... ITS NOT! Put your money into savings, don't waste it on them, they wont even considering helping when you have to make the worst decision of your life.

They deny claims that have already been approved the week prior. You have to call on the phone and hound them to find out why, although we have 90% coverage. Then the ones we are approved for Trupanion put the money in someone else's account, so now we have to wait for them to fix their mistake. Call back the money get it sorted out on their end, then we get our money. My advice is don't purchase this Pet Insurance as with any insurance company you pay up front then wait and wait and wait for them to pay you out. Should have just saved our money and paid for pet issues out right. So ZERO peace of mind when your beloved pet is ill. Finally received payment after having to get nasty with them. Typical Insurance company always looking for the loophole....save your money forget the insurance companies they always benefit.
