Trupanion Canada - Get it early or not at all
Classic insurance company
Will deny coverages for existing conditions but charge you like your getting covered for absolutely everything.
I think my premiums just about doubled in 6 years with no claims.
My personal experience would have cost me over 7000 dollars for the term of my policy to be rejected on my first and only claim to cover to euthanize my pet versus putting him through a 3rd back surgery which wouldn't have been covered by them either. Appearntly if the reasoning for being euthanized has anything to do with a prior condition they won't cover it......it's not about the couple dollars I didn't get reimbursed but more about the slimey reasoning that they use to justify this denial all while keeping their hands out for your ever increasing monthly payment.
Do yourself a favor and put the equivalent In a savings account.
Trupanion Canada - Was worth the price at first
Was worth the price at first. Prices are going up insanely high. Would recommend maybe fetch or other leading competitors. The service ive gotten for the price i pay a month for my baby boy should be way better. Bring costs back down before we switch companies. We’ve been using them for 3 years. No longer worth it. Prices for the same animal breed but for two different pets are different by $10. I pay $50 a month for one cat and $60 a month for another and still have a hard time when filing a claim. Make it make sense. Bring your costs down. Scam artists.
Trupanion Canada - Coverage for anaphylaxis deemed preventative care
Our dog was anaphylactic (swollen face, difficulty breathing) to vaccines since she was a puppy. Her vet recommended that she is given pre-treatment with her vaccines to keep her safe.
She had her annual vaccines just recently
Recently I was told by Trupanion that since this was a pre-treatment, it was PREVENTATIVE CARE and thus not covered. However if she suffered an allergic reaction and then we bring her in then it is a covered condition.
Individuals with a known peanut allergy who take an epi-pen after peanut ingestion is not preventative care, it's treating an exposure to a known trigger.
A dog with a known vaccine allergy who take medication due to expected vaccine exposure is not preventative care, it's treating an exposure to a known (and necessary) trigger.
I am very disappointed in trupanion's position that she needs to suffer with potentially deadly consequences in order for something like this to be covered when she was exposed to something she is known to be allergic to!
I don't think this is how a company who says that they are "dedicated to helping dogs and cats get the best care" should operate.
Trupanion Canada - Pretty awesome idea to give people a…
Pretty awesome idea to give people a free month of pet insurance, however to actually get customers to continue using the insurance, they should actually cover a vet bill during the free month trial...otherwise what is the point. Refused coverage for a vet bill after signing up for the insurance. Looking into the payments as well, they seem rather expensive ($160 range / month). Seems quite a bit more than other companies.
Trupanion Canada - Be very careful when dealing with this…
I am extremely dissatisfied with the experience I had with your company. Your failure to process payments in a timely manner resulted in two NSF fees on my bank account, totaling $150, including a stop payment fee. When I reached out to your customer service, I was met with resistance and unhelpful responses. The manager I spoke with seemed unconcerned with resolving the issue and instead focused on canceling my account. I was surprised to learn that your company's policy involves verifying funds with the bank before processing payments, which led to the delayed withdrawals. This approach is unlike any other company I have dealt with, which typically process payments on the scheduled date. I urge you to reevaluate your customer service practices to prevent similar experiences in the future.
Trupanion Canada - Ridiculous loopholes and deductibles not worthwhile for the money monthly
I pay 140/month and they ask for a deductible per incident which is fair. Only if your dog gets attacked by a porcupine more than once and requires surgery.... they make you pay the deductible TWICE. BS man this is a huge money grab and not worthwhile. I will be looking elsewhere. I have heard great things about Fetch insurance and will be switching to them. Thanks for nothing!
Trupanion Canada - I booked an appointment to have my dog…
I booked an appointment to have my dog spayed. After reading the documentations I decided to get pet insurance in case anything should happen during surgery. The next day I got pet insurance with Trupanion and they had no issues taking $200 from me immediately. That night Around 8 PM my dog got the Zumiez and kept running back-and-forth jumping on and off the couch and her kneecap Dislocated and popped out of place. This Caused laxatated Patela and is classified as accidental. However after taking the $200 I find out that there is a waiting period. Five days for accidental and 30 days for illness. It seemed a little odd as I have already paid my premiums for the month and couldn't understand why I wouldn't be able to use them if I've already paid and my effective date started when I paid. However the company refused my claim and stated it is an illness and will now be classified as a pre-existing illness even though it happened after my start date of premiums and they will not cover anything going forward that has to do with my dogs knees.. this is the biggest insurance scam I have ever heard of. If I'm paying premiums for something that wasn't existent prior to me not having insurance, It should be covered. However after sharing this information with the insurance company they continue to argue saying it's an illness even though the medical vet said it's not an illness it's accidental. This company does have some pretty shady reviews however it seemed to be the only company that did direct billing so I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt. However I would suggest saving your money and going with a better company. Because Trupanion just wants to take all your money and they don't wanna pay out anything When the time is needed. I have demanded a full refund of my money and to cancel premiums and I will never tell my friends or family with pets to go with this company. save your money!!
Trupanion Canada - Enrolment went well but plan was canceled in error
Update April 2025:
Trupanion has looked into this matter and resolved it. They confirmed that there was no confirmation to cancel the plan after listening to the recording of our call. I am very pleased that they attended to this matter so quickly and corrected the error.
The enrolment process went well and the person was very knowledgeable and friendly. The issue I had was that I had been a Trupanion member since my dog was just a few weeks old. I called to cancel my insurance due to an appeal dispute and the Trupanion employee suggested some helpful things to do in order to have a stronger appeal. I then told her to wait to cancel my insurance while I spoke to my vet, but I received noticed that it was canceled anyway. By the time I contacted Trupanion to get my pet back on the plan, they said too much time had elapsed (just over a month) so they would have to enrol her at a four year old dog rate (much higher), despite the fact I'd already been a Trupanion customer for four years with the same pet. It's disappointing that this was not recognized at re-enrolment.
Trupanion Canada - This company moved out of Canada to the…
This company moved out of Canada to the us and is now charging in US dollars and converting that amount to Canadian dollars. Watch your bill go through the roof if you are Canadian. You can't even talk to a Canadian on the phone.
Trupanion Canada - Consider before using this company
I signed up when my puppy was 7 months old and had an injury. I understand pre-existing conditions however after 2 claim denials I am better off saving the money. They do not make it easy. I would highly consider other companies. I asked around and was told about the denials but thought I would try it out.
