Spot - Decent but its still an insurance company, you cant expect it to be amazing
Submitting estimates is quite easy and approval usually happens quickly which is nice. I would be much more likely to recommend SPOT if the yearly deductible was rolling somehow rather than based on signup date. Pet incidents do not revolve around arbitrary dates. Also the fact that you cannot go down a reimbursement level (to reduce your monthly premium) without locking your ability to go back up in the future is unnecessarily cost restrictive for people on variable incomes. At most there should just be a limit on how often you can switch.
Spot - They are scammers
They are scammers! They scammed me out of 3 months of payments. I cancelled my policy soon after opening it and they refuse to refund me for the 3 months I’ve been charged. Months are for November December and January. I was told I’d get a “REFUND “ and still haven’t received it. STAY AWAY!!! They will steal your money!
Spot - Not at all impressed
Not at all impressed. I had 2 claims in one year. One was a basic visit and the other was an emergency visit. Both claims were immediately "completed" which means closed because they felt there wasn't enough medical information. It's up to me to chase down all the support and go back to them and beg them to reopen the claims now. They said they needed my dog's information going back FOUR years before considering whether to reimburse me for her emergency visit. Obviously they are looking for an excuse to deny the claim (find some way to say the issue was pre-existing) or they just want to wear me down so I won't follow up again. Their approach is to "complete" (close) the claim until you present it again and again and again, while they continue to deny, deny, deny. Even if they end up reimbursing me eventually, I can honestly say that they made sure the experience was dreadful and burdensome. It has definitely not been good.
Spot - DO BETTER.
It’s amazing that I pay more a month for my pet insurance. Then I do for my own health insurance and yet they still have the audacity to deny claims.
This company is garbage, They let me know that they denied my claim and Also, at the same time, let me know that they would’ve denied my claim, even if I reached my deductible.
They have the audacity to sit there and argue and email back-and-forth with bold letters.
Spot - It’s a pain to file a claim…
It’s a pain to file a claim…. It’s hard to get a hold of the vet for pet records..
Spot - Typical insurance, they'll get out of paying.
This insurance is a scam. We signed up within a couple days of adopting our two new kittens. They tell you to take them in for a wellness exam within a week or two after you adopt. We did that. This exam was, of course, within the waiting period. Fine, we paid for it out of pocket and didn't submit anything. One of the kittens had started having diarrhea so they did a fecal test just in case it wasn't just the stress of the move and food changes. It came back negative and our vet said to just give it a little time. Everything else checked out well with both cats--happy and healthy. Then a month later diarrhea is back and bad so we go back to see why. They do a PCR fecal test and some bloodwork. But because diarrhea was mentioned in her first appointment, now they consider it a pre-existing condition and cannot be covered. Imagine that, a kitten with diarrhea, as if that is rare. Now I have paid over $1,000 out of pocket and none of it is covered, or even goes even toward my deductible. I have to pay for insurance that doesn't cover anything that might be in any way tied to GI or diarrhea for another 6 months before they "might" not consider it a pre-existing condition anymore.
Spot - Misleading Coverage & Denied Claims – Spot Pet Insurance is a Scam!
I signed up for Spot Pet Insurance believing it would provide financial protection for my Persian cat, Cyrus, in case of accidents or illnesses. However, my experience has been nothing short of frustrating, misleading, and an absolute waste of money.
1. Denied Coverage for an Accident
Cyrus accidentally ingested a vitamin D capsule during the grace period, resulting in an ER visit ($190) and a follow-up visit to a new vet ($368.56). I was explicitly told by Spot Pet Insurance that as long as the accident/illness did not reoccur within 180 days, it would be covered.
Surprise! When I submitted the claims, they were denied. When I called for clarification, a rep told me I needed to take him back to the vet after December 25, 2024 (180 days later) and refile a claim ONLY with a new receipt—none of the previous expenses would be covered. That is NOT what I was originally told.
2. Denied a Legitimate Claim for No Reason
I also submitted a $170 claim from September 4, 2024 for an unrelated visit—this was AFTER the grace period ended, while my pet was covered. Spot denied it because Cyrus had diarrhea in June before my policy started and claimed it was a pre-existing condition.
What?! Diarrhea is an acute, common issue in pets, NOT a chronic condition. Spot Pet Insurance is clearly finding loopholes to deny coverage for anything and everything. If a pet ever has an upset stomach in its lifetime, does that mean Spot will never cover GI issues again? This logic is completely absurd.
3. A Complete Waste of Money
I have paid over $400 in premiums, and was only reeimbursed $15 for pink eye illness. Spot Pet Insurance is essentially worthless—what’s the point of having pet insurance if they refuse to cover even basic claims? Their lack of transparency and deceptive denial tactics are shady and unethical.
Final Verdict
Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from Spot Pet Insurance. Their policies are misleading, their customer service gives contradictory information, and they will find any excuse to deny your claim.
Beware before signing up – you are better off saving your money than trusting Spot Pet Insurance!
Spot - My pets was a member of spot insurance…
My pet was a member of spot insurance for 2 years. Here is my experience: my cat had a vomit for 4 days, at the vet clinic they did X Ray, blood test, didn’t find any diseases like diabetes or stone in kidney, told me to monitor her state and charged me with $1065 💰. Pyshka had an accident coverage only and blood tests, scans or CT are included in the accident coverage. The SPOT insurance reimbursement was $18.0 as they thought Pyshka had gastrointestinal problems, but she didn’t 😡. My cat choked with a hairball and it was coming out after day 4. So, I’m not longer a member of this insurance 🤯
I am pretty sure that choking with a hairball is NOT PREEXISTING CONDITION
Spot - Honestly thought the reimbursement…
Honestly thought the reimbursement payments would be much closer to actual totals and when needed for my dogs surgery it was only 1/4 of an emergency surgery for the better quality of life for my dog and unfortunately was unable to afford the surgery so my dog continues to suffer.
Spot - Reimbursement Struggles
Absolutely ridiculous that I was not notified that the direct deposit bounced back and I’m still waiting for the refund check. I’ve called on this 3 times! I will likely be cancelling my policy!
