Pets Best - Just Joined Pets Best - 40+ day SLA for Claims
Hey Everyone!
I brought home a new kitten on February 14th. We went to our first vet visit on February 15th. I uploaded the documents within a week of our visit and started the claim process the same day, to give my vet time to send their paperwork.
As of today, my claim is still not finished processing. I was told their email system was down and they're now processing claims in the order they came in. I was also told they have a 40+ day SLA to get it done.
Seriously? 40 days to process a "fast" claim? Why advertise speedy processing if you internally have a 40+ day SLA?

Nationwide - Nationwide Dropping Coverage Amount
Just got my renewal notice for my dog, whom I've had on their policy since I adopted her 7 years ago. It's literally saved her life at least once with an emergency surgery being 90% covered. I'd noticed a year or 2 ago they were no longer offering the 90% reimbursement plan to new customers but figured as long as I maintained my payments (which had gone up SIGNIFICANTLY) I'd be held in that same plan as long as I wanted. Not so. When I opened the renewal letter this morning, I noticed the premium dropped by about 30 a month but the reimbursement amount also dropped to 50%. Very disappointingly, the letter said that to maintain competitive pricing, they needed to make this change. I think I'll be shopping around for a new provider but am fearful that starting a new policy means my dog's chronically arthritic leg and hip (she was mushed when she was a puppy before I got her and never treated) won't be covered nor will her supplements and so forth that keeps her from feeling too much pain. Any advice?
PetsBest - Thoughts on this insurance appeal for PetsBest
Recently, my cat had to be rushed to the ER due to urinary blockage (FLUTD) , I submitted his bills, which rounded up to 7k, but the insurance denied it as pre-existing.
* Pet had not prior diagnosis or sign of illness in the past with a clean record
* Vet stated that he had issues peeing in an instance of stress due to construction and not due to FLUTD, and recommended Feliway Diffusers
* Vet also wrote a letter for me specifying that the symptoms were not related to pre-existing FLUTD
Now at the time that he started to show symptoms of blockage and straining the policy was already active and the waiting period was over. Am I crazy for thinking that them using past symptoms that were specified to not be related to deny my claim is actually wrong, and this emergency should fall under coverage?
Fetch Pet Insurance - What is the best long term pet insurance provider you've had?
I currently have Fetch pet insurance and they dropped my cats coverage to 50% from 80% bc they thought her account was unbalanced. They basically penalized me for using the coverage I pay for. For those of you who have had pet insurance for more than 2-3 years, which ones have you been happy with? I also, just got my new cat lemonade pet insurance but now I am having doubts. Pls helppp
Spot - Pet Insurance - Pre-Existing Conditions
Hi All,
Looking for some advice/experience dealing with pet insurance. I have 2 sister cats, 5 years old. I just spent an obscene amount of money on dental work for one of them and am trying to determine if pet insurance makes sense for me going forward.
Cat 1 has had some eye infections in the past, at this point treated but she will flare up occasionally when she's stressed. I'm worried that will be considered a pre-existing condition and won't be covered because she's received treatment before.
Cat 2 is the dental work one, and I am anticipating more cleanings in her future. Does previous dental work trigger a pre-existing condition or have you seen that in your experience? She's also getting treatment right now for an ear infection and I'm worried she's susceptible to those as well and that will also be flagged as pre-existing.
I have no faith that an insurance company will deal with me fairly, so I'm wondering if it's even worth it if any of these issues won't be covered as they're what I go to the vet for usually.
I have a number of options for insurance based on my employer's perk programs. I see a place like Spot will cover issues after 180 days, but then it seems like they only cover $100 on dental cleaning? That doesn't seem like much when for cats they have to sedate them anyway?
I'm sort of rambling but I guess my ultimate question is - is it too late to get insurance for these cats because I've been diligent on getting them treatment in the past?
Trumpanion - Overwhelming options
I was hopping someone could help me. My family is adopting a puppy this April and we want to get insurance coverage for it. I have read reviews online and here and it seems like people don’t like most companies because, shockingly, insurance companies don’t want to pay up. So I guess what I’m asking is does anyone have a recommendation for a company that reliably pays claims? I’m not too concerned about reimbursement times a month is fine, but I just don’t want to get scammed. It seems Trumpanion is very popular but also is 2x the cost of everyone else, To the tune of 1200 a year.
It seems from the research I have done, Lemonaid, Figo, Fetch and Met Life have plans I could work with. Fetch being the cheapest and covering initial visits which is cool
But concerning that it’s so cheap.
Also is 10,000 annual coverage sufficient? I live in Seattle suburbs and have no idea what stuff costs.
Thanks for any insight you all might have.
Trupanion - Am I getting fleeced? (Trupanion)
When we adopted our dog (now 6 years old and 44 lbs, a mix of at least 5 different breeds) we took out what I considered to be a “catastrophic plan” to insure her and help us avoid difficult healthcare financial decisions when she grows old, or sooner (though hopefully not). The policy has a $1,000 lifetime deductible per injury/illness and no maximum benefit. When we took out the policy it was $25.03/month. It is now up to $57.15/month.
A 128% increase over 6 years feels pretty steep, especially when she’s statistically speaking less than 1/2 of her way through her expected lifespan.
Should I be regularly shopping around the same way one does with auto or homeowners insurance, or are the chances that I will find a better value now that she’s 6 low? I remember reading when I took out the policy that with pet insurance it’s better to insure early when the dog’s health risk is very low to “lock in” a low rate and picked Trupanion because at the time they advertised modest premium increases being a feature that differentiated them among their competitors. I don’t feel like 128% over 6 years is modest, and if the increases continue to increase at the accelerated rate they have been doing so, I feel like it may be worth surveying the field to see what else is out there.
I like her coverage and feel that it works for our financial situation. (We are fortunate that we can afford regular wellness visits and any unexpected medical items < $1,000).
TIA!
Embrace - Thinking of switching pet insurance
Renewal time is coming up soon and realized I never changed our address since we recently moved back to NY after living in RI. Well it’s going from $36 for my 5 year old cat to $60 a month. Overall she’s a very healthy kitty, the only health issue is she has asthma so I get that and I know as they get older it’s more costly cause of healthcare for them and providing services is expensive. Embrace has been great overall experience for us because we had to put one of our other cats down last year and they compensated us almost entirely but, I just wasn’t expecting because of the zip code to justify $60 every month now. Does anyone have any suggestions on our insurances if I’d be saving money elsewhere?
Trupanion - PetsPlusUs is great, Trupanion is trash
I wanted to share my experience, as reading other people’s stories on reddit is what made me go with this company and i’m so glad I did.
I’d heard lots of good reviews, and my partner had no issues with reimbursement with PetsPlusUs so I decided to try them out for my dog and cat.
After my cat had surgery to remove an obstruction, they paid me back the exact amount I expected to be reimbursed, and it was very straightforward! I even forgot to update my address for my insurance so it didn’t match the bill, and it was fine (I think partially because I only moved 5 minutes away so my premiums weren’t affected).
The only slight annoyance was I needed to give them ALL vet records, and they wouldn’t process my claim until I did (so please keep all your pet records safely in one place), but I suspect the same would be true for all pet insurance companies. My cat is about 1.5 years old, and her insurance is $35 a month and they repaid $2,100, so it’s been absolutely worth the money.
While at the ER, a dog came in that was hit by a car and trupanion wouldn’t cover a penny. I overheard the staff talking about how terrible trupanion is for repayment (and its way more expensive than pets plus us).
Lemonade - lemonade review and in need of advice for possible switch?
hello! i recently got lemonade for my 4 month old kitten. since then, she’s had a UTI or what seemed like one, they couldn’t really tell because she’s very tiny or something like that. i submitted my claim the ends of october and had a follow up on november 1st. the month is about to end and our claims combined to a total of 1.5k~ ish. we have not received our reimbursement yet even with all of the paperwork sent in. lemonade status is just “in review” and usually, id be patient and we have been but sometimes this money could be used for bills or going towards food or another visit if she ever got sick. it’s just infuriating emailing and getting the same automated message of “thanks for being patient.” i dont know if this is a universal experience with every pet insurance because its my first time having a cat ^^ but if anyone can recommend any better service pet insurance or if you’ve had similar experiences let me know!!
