Allstate - All State
So I have auto insurance with All State here in Canada and I was provided a questionnaire for my renewal term which I filled out. All state says to fill it out otherwise there’s penalties and whatnot so I fill it out. They increased the premium on my last monthly payment before renewal and aren’t budging because we sent the questionnaire that they asked for before we paid the last payment so now they’re counting it as a policy change which is stupid. I work as an actuary in auto insurance and I’ve never dealt with this sort of stuff. What should I do?
MetLife Insurance - MetLife Insurance- Address Change Question
Hi! I’ll get right into it-
I adopted my dog in 2021 at age 3 and got her pet insurance immediately at around $20 per month initially. The price has gone up as she aged and is around $55 per month now (she is 6 almost 7). I moved in the last few months ~10 miles away from my old apartment but still go to my same vet and have not had any significant changes otherwise. I called the pet insurance to change my address and they quoted me $139 for the same coverage I have just because I moved. Since I have been with the pet insurance a while, I feel like they just redid my quote as though I was a new customer and that’s why it’s so expensive.
For nearly triple the price I’m not willing to keep the insurance but wondering if I have any rights here or this could be escalated further? I really like my pet insurance but feel that this is outrageous especially since I have not moved that far and still go to the same vet so I don’t see how it would make that much of a difference to them.
More details- I have MetLife pet insurance. I live in Saint Petersburg, FL (moved from downtown to north st Pete and my zip code changed). I also moved from an apartment to a townhouse.
Thanks in advance!
Edit to add: no preexisting conditions except allergies (she gets a shot every 3-4 months) and nothing new that would have contributed to the price change.
STD company - STD Overpayment
Located in Oregon, USA
Short Term Disability insurance related to parental leave
I took parental leave from work in 2024. My job/company is entirely remote, so my employer uses a benefits manager, JW, for payroll and insurance, and a third party administrator, Sparrow, specifically to manage short- or long-term leave, kind of like a concierge service for employees (because rules vary significantly from state to state). I signed the things that Sparrow told me to sign.
I was supposed to be paid from the state, from private STD, and topped up by my employer. I didn’t have a STD policy of my own; I was told that my employer took out a STD policy on its employees. Payments were confusing, delayed, and as a new parent I was not paying attention. I didn’t tally things up until recently to do my taxes. I’m missing a 1099 from STD so I called Sparrow, who said go to STD, who said go to JW, who said there was no STD policy for me… but if there was it should be in my W2. Taxes were withheld from STD so I said regardless of how we got here, I need an accurate W2, which is in the works. And it looks like I was overpaid by the STD amount.
Lo and behold, today I got a call from the STD company saying my STD claim was denied and submitted for overpayment. I kinda laughed… I’d just been signing paperwork and living my life. How the heck did they approve and pay a claim on a policy that does’t exist? And why did Sparrow/JW request that money? And why was I told it was my company’s policy? So I told the STD company that they can recoup the money from one of the benefits managers. This strikes me as an unenforceable request for repayment from me, but I don’t know what I don’t know and would appreciate any insight about how to navigate this. Thanks in advance.
Geico - Car insurance rates
I’ve been a Geico customer for probably 15 years. I think I paid $60 a payment when I signed with them, the latest new rate almost $200. I moved recently to Queens, NY which they say boosted the cost but this increase is insane. I haven’t had a speeding ticket in decades.
Any companies offer better rates!?
State Farm - Trying to get a cash claim after total loss declared
Someone hit my crappy but reliable car on the way to work a few days ago and their insurance (state farm) is trying to declare the car a total loss, but the cost of the car won't come close to getting me a new used vehicle of the same quality. The damage to the car is mostly cosmetic with only about $1000 in repairs required to get the car on the road again. But ~$4000 to repair the cosmetic damage.
The mechanic suggested I try to call them and let them know that I wanted a lower payment in exchange for the car not being totaled but whenever I call state farm I'm immediately redirected to their total loss department. Is it at all likely that I'll be able to instead do a cash claim so that I can keep my car or am I just competely fucked?
Progressive - Car totaled after 29 days.
Me and my girlfriend purchased a 2020 Rav 4 like a week or so before Christmas. We got GAP insurance and got Progressive insurance that next day or so. She and 2 others drivers were hit by an 18 wheeler less then a month later back in January while they were parked at stop light. The 18wheeler driver was in the CDL drivers ed program at a local community college and didn’t swing wide enough and ended up dragging our RAV4 and 2 other cars. And of course we got the worse of the damages and ended up getting totaled.
We put $3K down as a down payment and paid the 1st car note like a week early. After several weeks of back and forth and getting police report correcting and etc, we are stuck without a car now. Progressive paid out enough to pay off the car and had like $380 leftover for us. Our adjustor said they didn’t need to use GAP or it wouldn’t help. Is that correct?
Cause even after we can the deductible and rental reimbursements back, it’s still not enough compared to what we put in. And all that has to go into subjugation. And then he said all that won’t be processed till and medical/bodily harm stuff is settled and they will do all of it at once. I guess we are just still shocked and disappointed cause basically got screwed by an unfortunate event. But I just knew the GAP would get us back in something else. Any suggestions or corrections?
Geico - Geico insurance auto damage claim
I recently settle down with Geico for an auto damage cost and they sent me a link where I can put my banking information for direct deposit, despite verifying with the bank about the entered information being corrected the website still shows "please verify the information for accuracy" I even used a family members card which didn't work, so then they automatically issued a check which never came despite being more than 10 days, I called them again and they said there's nothing they can do but issue a new check or redo the direct deposit which I did and still failed to verify the banking information, I suspect this is a system error, I'm currently waiting for the second check but I'm very anxious whether the check is gonna come or not? What should I do in this situation. Geico isn't able to track where my check goes
Ohio Insurance Company - Should I sue my hospital?
Age: 37
State: Ohio
In December of last year, I was recommended to get a colonoscopy due to family history. When I spoke with the specialist doctor, he said that "since you'll be under (anesthetics), we could also do an EGD." He then asked if I ever get heartburn, and I said sure but it was infrequent and I knew the triggers and how to take care of it, but if, like the colonoscopy, my insurance completely covered it and I wouldn't be paying, I'd be okay with that. He said sure, they could do that.
Fast forward a month later and the hospital is charging me because they submitted the EGD as diagnostic. So the doctor ignored the condition under which I agreed to the procedure.
I've been fighting this ever since then. The hospital investigated and since they don't keep audio with the cameras, and don't have call logs (the doctor's assistant called me a few days beforehand and said they convinced my insurance to cover the EGD, and I confirmed with her that I wouldn't have to pay for it), they're refusing to do anything about it. The bill is about $1,900.
I've filed a complaint/appeal with my insurance, but that takes up to 60 days, and is still going through the process (I had called them the day before the procedure and confirmed it's "covered," and the CSR said yes, she sees that that's been approved). I e-mailed the state department of health, talked with the state hospital association (they have no legal authority and can't do anything), filed with the BBB, filed with the state attorney general, filed with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, sent my story to the local newspaper, left a Google review, and am waiting to hear back from the state insurance department (they can't do anything until my insurance appeal gets resolved).
My last option is to sue them in small claims court. The lawyers in my area said they don't handle cases like mine. What umbrella term would this fall under? Misrepresentation / promissory estoppel? The only lawyer who agreed to a consultation said it's better to go after the insurance company, but I don't see this as their fault. I can also call the hospital and negotiate a lower repayment, but I'm angry I have to pay anything at all when a promise was made to me that I wouldn't owe anything. Is this something I just have to bite the bullet on?
Edit: Thank you to the 20% of people who explained what the hospital staff should have explained to me, gave me options to pursue, and ideas on how to protect myself in the future. The rest of you, I hope you understand that the vast majority of people don't work in this industry, and blaming the victim of a convoluted and broken system is real shitty.

Tesla Insurance - Car insurance claim - Shop not providing estimate/quote for aftermarket items until repair is completed?
I am going through Tesla insurance for my Model Y. I had a few aftermarket parts and vinyl wrap that needs to be replaced as part of the repair.
The quote/check for the repair does not include just three items and the shop is saying that they will submit a separate claim/payment for that item after everything else is repaired and done.
Additionally, they are saying that after all of that, I need to go get a quote for the wrap and submit that separately on my own to see if Tesla will reimburse me for it.
Anyone have any insight on this? At this point, it has taken me several months to even get a reply back from the shop, I almost want to just ask for a check and get it done elsewhere or figure it out on my own. The only issue is the check was sent to the shop as a two person check, so I almost feel like I will be stuck with this shop.
