Hilton - Hotel complaint got me banned from the property
I have an Amex Hilton rewards Diamond membership. I had to spend over 13K to receive certain rewards like a free room. We’re not rich, by any means, it took a long time to build up to a free room.
It was my sons birthday so I called the local Hilton to see if we booked a room if we could have small party for him at the pool area and invite a few guests. They were very nice and accommodating and said absolutely and even offered for us to use their fire pit and grill as well. A week later we booked the room and went to the hotel to ask if we could see it to get an idea of sleeping arrangements. They said they couldn’t at the time. Ok, no problem, so we left.
The day before our stay we got an email to choose our room and noticed the room wasn’t what I thought it was. Being a Diamond member we’re entitled to free upgrades that are available, and have always been treated kindly about that. Not at this hotel. I called Hilton cust serv line and they said they tried to get the upgrade but sounded like they’d had a problem with the hotel, and advised I try to speak to them myself. They were super nice about it, but I could tell the cs agent was frazzled after speaking with the hotel.
I called the hotel and once the front desk accessed my acct and saw the free room, her attitude became awful! I am a calm steady person from years of customer service, so I didn’t feed into her snarky behavior. I felt she was lying about not having an upgraded room avail.
So I called and spoke with the GM. I complained to her about the previous convo with her front desk agent and asked that she looked into it. Well, She was worse! She began saying we couldn’t have a party unless all guests were registered to our room and began changing our agreements. I told her it was no problem, we can add them on to our room, there were only a couple of teens coming, so it would’ve worked out ok. Our room could fit 6, and we only had 6 people. But She didn’t offer to do that nor did she ask if we were ok with the room. She just said this is a free room and it sounds like we cannot accommodate you here and that she was cancelling our room. We were 2 hours from the party time. I begged her not to cancel because we had guests meeting us there. She insisted she was doing it, so I told her if she did that, I would call the state attorney general because I never consented to her changing and breaking the contract. By cancelling it, it made me lose my free room.
I called Hilton and asked for their district managers number. They said I’d have to call the hotel to get it. So I did and got the nasty GM again. She said because I “threatened legal action, I was banned from the property” and if I step foot there they’d call Georgia patrol. I was absolutely floored! I kept my cool and never said anything for her to go that far. I tried to do everything the correct way… asking to have the party beforehand instead of sneaking people in, tried to see the room beforehand, tried to use my diamond status to work through a misunderstanding instead of raising cane.. etc. There was no reason for her to do that.
My son was looking forward to having his friends there for his birthday. I had 3 hours to call parents and make new arrangements. It turned out that the teens just wanted to ride bikes all day and barely would’ve even used the hotel. We didn’t need it after all. But I’d like to have my free room back and be removed from their “do not rent” list.
Thinking about it now, I believe they just didn’t want to rent to people who use their free room.
What advice would you give me? Should I file the complaint with the state Atty general or let Amex do it? Or something else all together?
Spot - Issues with Spot- Help!!
Hi,
My one year old cat had to go to the vet this week for a limp. I processed his paperwork and submitted a claim toward his deductible and Spot denied it. Looks like he needs surgery and it’s going to be costly- I’m worried they will deny this too.
Am I able to switch insurance companies now if I’m having issues with spot? Or would a new company just not cover this at all? This is my first pet with insurance and I’m frustrated.
Spot Pet Insurance - Spot Pet Insurance. - deceptive!
We purchased Spot Pet Insurance for our newly adopted rescue Golden and chose “Accident” insurance only . They happily took our application and all monthly payments since July 2024. Over the weekend, he suddenly became lame on his back right leg and was very reluctant to walk or stand up. We know it occurred between his am walk and 3 pm. After taking him to Blue Pearl and getting imaging done as well as pain meds, we submitted our invoice for reimbursement. DENIED. Reason why? We didn’t have the EXACT time of the injury. I submitted an appeal, but if it’s denied we are cancelling. We would be better off putting $100 bucks a month away in his own health account. What a bait and switch!
AAA - AAA Agent said I needed to get auto insurance if I wanted home insurance?
I just got a good quote on home insurance but the car insurance is more than triple what I’m currently paying (I don’t think that’s what they want the triple to be known for).
Has anyone else experienced this with AAA? I triple checked with her that I heard her correctly. I work from home and rarely drive so I have a mileage based plan. This is not that. She said at least one vehicle needed some kind of coverage and it could just be liability.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - CT Heart
Cardiologist ordered a CT for my heart. Pre-authorization approved by insurance but for cost estimate at BCBS website I will still roughly pay about 2K while they will cover about $1600. I have BCBS PPO with $3200 deductible. Would the hospital billing department be able to give me my actual cost before I go through with the procedure. I just don’t want any more surprises after getting hit with a $3K hospital bill for my son’s ambulance and ER TRIP.
State Farm - claim on house with state farm
adjuster trying to say a hail storm a week after wind storm (prior hail was photographed 3 weeks ago) would require a double deductible. is this common practice with state farm trying to get out of paying even half of what it costs for a new roof
MetLife - I recently moved and have to pay my deductible again? Why?
So I’m (M22) new to all this Pet Insurance jazz. I just recently moved to my own apartment from my mom’s house, so I moved my cats pet insurance to my new address just so it’s easier and have a sense of independence. When I called MetLife to switch my address, the representative said NOTHING until the very end about me having to pay my deductible AGAIN and I would also be charged ANOTHER payment for my cat’s insurance as it would be getting restarted. I just wanna know if this is true or if I gotta make a phone call?
homeowners insurance company - T-Lock shingles
My homeowners insurance company called me and told me I need to replace my roof and get rid of the t-lock shingles or they will drop me. Is it right for them to do that? The roof is in good condition doesn’t leak or anything. They are basically forcing me to get a good roof redone. Is there something I can do to have them help pay to where I’m not replacing on my own?
State Farm - State farm homeowners insurance deductible
We recently had to file our first homeowners insurance claim in the 6 years we’ve owned our house. We had a huge storm with 75+ mph winds and torrential rains, tornadoes etc.
We randomly had the wood paneling in our living room (interior wall, other side is a bedroom) sustain water damage. It was wet and mushy and all warped. We want it fixed because we don’t want mold growing etc. roof is 4 years old so we aren’t sure how water got in. We also need a professional to figure out how this happened.
Anyway, State Farm says it’s covered under our policy.
We have a $3,000 deductible.
They said they deduct the deductible from the money they send us for the repairs. We don’t pay it up front.
(We are waiting for a callback from the contractor they helped us find).
To me that sounds like if it’s going to cost $6,000 to fix they take off $3k and we only get $3k.
My husband thinks we get the full amount for the repairs which makes no sense to me. State farm has to pay themselves the deductible.
We had a total loss on a car last year and they took the deductible out of that and we got less money back for our payment. So that’s why I think we aren’t going to get the full amount (which is not going to be helpful we don’t have a ton of money right now).
So anyone know who’s right?

Hello, with Fetch. Monthly fee has gone up e up to $102.00 Canadian for 1 dog. Dog is 6 years old. We also have another fur baby. Does anyone have another Pet insurance company you can recommend/ please share your monthly amount.
