Chase - Am I Eligible for Chase $900 Bonus?
I originally signed up for the Chase $900 bonus approximately 18 months ago, but didn't end up depositing any money into either the checking or savings accounts (ended up not having enough liquidity at the time due to unexpected events).
They ended up closing both accounts after 30 days with a $0 balance on both. I confirmed this with a Chase representative on the phone. However, he claimed I was not eligible even though I would appear to technically meet the eligibility criteria (account not closed in the last 90 days; no accounts closed with negative balance in the last 3 years; only allowed to receive one new checking and one new savings account opening bonus every two years from the last coupon enrollment date and only one bonus per account). He claimed that I had closed my account too recently, even though the plain text of the offer would seem to suggest otherwise.
Has anyone had any experience with a situation like this?
Is there something else I'm missing here as to why I might not be eligible?
Will Chase let me know whether I am eligible or not when I open the accounts? Or do I only find out when I end up receiving (or not receiving) the bonuses?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Trupanion - Trupanion increase yet again: at what point should I just self-insure?
Full background:
I have had both my dogs insured by Trupanion for several years now, both since they were pups. One will be 7 this November, and the other just turned 4.
My premiums have gone from $126/mo in 2022 to what will now be $290/mo starting in June. So more than 2x increase in 2 years.
Over the years I've had a few emergency vet visits (mostly from ingesting foreign substances) and filed claims. In total they've paid out about $4100.
But now I'm just not sure it's worth it anymore. Changing insurance is probably out of the question for me given the number of past incidents that would probably be considered "pre-existing conditions" now. But paying $3480 a year (and probably will just increase more) feels completely ridiculous.
Should I just cancel the policy and put the money toward a savings account instead? Or is the risk not worth it?
My brain tells me cancel, but it feels like a decision I can't really walk back once I do it.
community public liability insurance - Settled claim privately, Insurance won't let me claim
Brief background:
My boss lives in a private gated community. Last week a resident neighbour was driving out of the grounds, and as she was going through the gate one of our staff walked in front of the gate. I honestly don't know what happened but her car was damaged as the gate closed on her car.
The neighbour said our team member was at fault. The gate mechanism is absolutely faulty and to blame. My boss said just to settle it and we paid her 1k for the damage (she got a garage quote).
Now the community public liability insurance is saying that because we amicably settled with the Third Party, no claim by us will be entertained.
I know that by rights the neighbour should have claimed on the community insurance, but my boss just wanted it dealt with and didn't want animosity with a neighbour.
Do we have any recourse with the insurance company?
My next plan will be legal action against the property managers, but I'd prefer not to go down that road!

HBO Max - HBO Max has charged me ~$1,000 over years for a subscription I don't have
I have a Chase credit card that I rarely use. The account is set to auto-pay and usually, the only charge each month is a single subscription for which that card is set up as the payment method.
I recently logged into my Chase account and noticed that I am being, and have been for years, charged $16.99 a month for an HBO Max account. This totals in the ballpark of $1,000. Here's a brief summary of what's happened so far.
**Background:**
* I had been subscribed to HBO Max years ago, but I was pretty certain I had canceled that subscription around 2020
* Still not wanting an HBO Max subscription, I logged onto my account with the intention of canceling it
* As I had originally expected, my account did not have an active subscription
* I then attempted to log in with all other email addresses I have, but none of them were associated with HBO accounts
**What I've tried:** I contacted HBO support who attempted to locate the account. I shared:
* All known email addresses
* The account information of the card being charged
* CC statements showing the charge on my account
HBO support was unable to locate any active account associated with that payment information and then basically washed their hands of the matter. They instructed me to dispute the charge with my financial institution and have not given any guidance on how to move forward with HBO.
This doesn't feel right. Given the fact that they can't locate the account, it seems to me that they have been erroneously charging me for an account I don't have for years. I would certainly like that money returned to me, and it doesn't feel like my financial institution should be responsible for this.
Granted I should have paid closer attention to my financial accounts, but I was being charged for a service that I didn't purchase and that was never provided.
**My question:** What course of action would give me the best chance of getting all, or at least some, of my money back? Should I pursue this with HBO further, file with a consumer protection agency, or just dispute with Chase?
Travelers - MN Home Insurance Jumped from ~$1,680 to ~$3,300 – What’s Going On?
We bought our home just outside the Twin Cities area in mid last year, and at the time our Travelers homeowners insurance premium was around **$1,680/year**.
This year, our renewal came in at **over $3,300**. After some back and forth, I changed the deductible to match last year’s, but the total was still around **$2,800**.
I contacted a few other insurance companies, and their quotes were all in the same \~$3k range. I was told that **all homeowners insurance carriers in MN increased rates significantly this past year**.
Has anyone else experienced this?
* Do you know *why* rates jumped so much in Minnesota?
* Are there any strategies to cut this cost beyond just raising the deductible?
Any insight would be appreciated.
As a note, there were several homes in our area that had their roofs replaced about 2-3 years ago, because of hail damage or something like that, I would have imagined that it would have caused the price hike last year, not this.
homeowner’s insurance - [US-California] Follow-up: Sued after selling home over HOA dispute and property damage claims
Hi all — I’m following up on a post I made over a year ago regarding a dispute with my former neighbor in an HOA community:
[Original Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/17kskaq/neighbor_wants_us_to_remove_trees_trench_and/)
At the time, the neighbor was demanding that I remove trees and trench my property due to alleged view obstruction and root intrusion. I consulted with an attorney back then who told me to wait and see if the neighbor actually filed a lawsuit, as the demands seemed like a scare tactic. Their advice was to assume he might just be bluffing unless I was formally served.
**Fast forward:**
I sold the property and moved out of the HOA community. A few weeks **after the sale was finalized**, I was served with a lawsuit from the same neighbor. The lawsuit includes eight causes of action, mostly related to HOA CC&R violations, nuisance, and alleged property damage from tree roots.
**The plaintiff is still a member of the HOA. I am not.**
I no longer owned the property and was not a member of the HOA when the lawsuit was filed.
**My homeowner’s insurance is providing a defense attorney that will be defending me wholly but will only financially cover the property damage claims.**
They will not cover any claims related to HOA CC&R violations, "loss of enjoyment," nuisance, or attorneys’ fees.
The claims adjuster also told me that I could be responsible for the plaintiff’s full attorneys’ fees if he prevails on **any portion** of the case, even a minor claim.
They are pointing to this clause in the HOA CC&Rs:
*(i) Attorneys Fees.*
*Any judgment rendered in any action or proceeding pursuant to this Declaration shall include a sum for attorneys’ fees in such amount as the court or arbitrator, as applicable, may deem reasonable, in favor of the prevailing party...*
# 🔹 What I’m really trying to understand:
Does the HOA’s CC&Rs and this attorneys’ fee provision still apply to me, even though:
* I was **not a member of the HOA** at the time the lawsuit was filed.
* I had already **sold the home** and was no longer bound by the CC&Rs.
* **The HOA did not have any open or pending violations against me at the time of the sale.**
* The claims are mostly based on alleged violations while I lived there.
Is it common or even legally valid for CC&R provisions to be enforced against a **former homeowner**, when the lawsuit was filed after the sale?
**Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?**
Any legal insight, personal experience, or thoughts would be really appreciated. I’m trying to gauge how much personal exposure I truly have beyond what my insurance is covering.
*(I understand this is not formal legal advice, just looking for shared experiences and general guidance.)*

Emblem Health - Baby Formula Coverage
Has anyone had any luck getting Emblem HIP to cover prescription formula (Nutramigen) due to a baby’s milk allergy? Emblem is of course giving me the runaround
State Farm - Someone rear ended me and denied liability
I was rear ended last week. The dude gave me his info, and we both talked with my insurance company and decided to file a claim through his insurance (State Farm). During the phone call he talked about damages to our vehicles.
Earlier this week, state farm called and said he denied his car making contact with my car, and they are investigating this. I have some pics of my cars damage, some pics of his insurance info and his id taken at the scene. What’s my best move here? It just seems kinda absurd because why would he give me his insurance info and let me take a picture of his id if there was no contact?
Also, his car has no damage because he has a metal front bumper. My cars rear bumper cracked.
CalFAIR - CalFAIR says my payment was returned NSF, my bank app says it was paid
Like many Californians, got dropped by Farmers last year and the only option was CalFAIR for our fire policy. Paid the quarterly in February online and on time, got a letter today saying that the premium “was not honored by your financial institution”. Double checked my banking app, it showed the amount was paid with no problem. The running balance on my account was around $2-3000 at that time, no way it was NSF for a $676 debit. Plus, my account has NSF protection, where if I do go over (which I haven’t in decades), money from savings is transferred into checking to cover the overdraft. Basically, impossible to be NSF. So now I get to wait on hold Monday morning for however long, and what do I say when/if I get to a real person? How do I prove this was paid? Do I call the bank first?
Aflac - Aflac always
I’m going to be having a baby soon and wanted to know if I will get paid my short term disability leave if I am no longer working? I signed up for Aflac always which says it locks in the rate but I don’t want to continue paying for it if they are going to deny me.
