Two ways to improve:
1. When submitting claims online, allow the claim form to be able to filled out online. This would make submitting claims less complicated. For now, you must print out the form, fill it in by hand and then scan it to attach it to the claim. This process should be simpler.
2. The customer service department should be able to talk with the claims department about claims that go awry. I had a recent frustrating experience where the claims department erroneously sent back a claim for more information. It was not needed, as it had been submitted originally. Despite the error being made by the claims department, my claim was put back in the queue and took over three weeks to resolve. Customer service, although polite, could not contact the claims department and expedite the matter. Improve communication and allow errors to be handled in a timely manner.
ASPCA - Manipulating definition of 'PRE-EXISTING CONDITION"
I got this insurance because I needed help diagnosing my dog's eating problem. I went to 2 different vets for a diagnosis. When I submitted a claim for the second one, they wouldn't pay it because I had gone to the first vet for the same issue. Therefore, they called it a pre-existing condition. I thought such conditions were ones established before I got the insurance; also ones which had been diagnosed. I felt this was a sneaky way to avoid payment. Basically, for conditions which are not preventitive, they only reimburse you for one time your pet is treated for a specific reason, after you have paid the high deductible. This pretty much defeats the purpose of getting insurance, if you ask me. I will say the insurance was useful only for preventive treatment, which has no deductible. I'm not sure if that is also only a one-time reimbursement for things that are on-going, such as regular shots.

I submitted a claim for my pups ER visit and I was asked to resubmit all of his records for the past year again!! 44 pages of info!! I was told by the first representative that they didn’t have his records which was to me very upsetting since I had to email everything when I opened the policy. I had to call back to get a representative that was very helpful and found his information. She was going yo get my claim looked at again right away.
I also don’t think I’m being reimbursed correctly.
Pets Best - Pets Best Illegally Denying Claims - FRAUD
Pets Best denied my claim for my dogs chemotherapy treatment. They have covered all past claims for his treatment and this is not considered a pre-existing condition. I have an unlimited reimbursement amount. They've been covering it up until now and then denied it for "take home prescription medication" are you kidding me???? Can this company read? The claim I submitted clearly shows my bill as in house chemotherapy that was performed in a hospital. What kind of company can't even tell that chemotherapy IV treatment is not done at home as a prescription, this is basic medical knowledge. Pets Best is SCAMMING me and ILLEGALLY denying my claims!!!!!

I’ve been with Trupanion for over 5 years now. Each year my monthly bill has increased, I started at 85$/month and now as of July 28/2025 my monthly bill for one mixed breed dog will be 132.50.
Which is more than my own monthly personal medical insurance.
Yes, it does say in the small print that yearly changes will be made, but at what point does the cost increase stop?
I am sure this is some sort of ponzy scheme where they get you started with your new pet, just so slowly increase your charges through its life time.
I will be looking for and acquiring a new insurance company as soon as possible.

I read it's effective right away an that's a lie misleading if not effective 28. I demand a full refund asap thank you
Trupanion - The premiums have increased
The premiums have increased, of course, but I'm starting to wonder if worth the cost. I also had to call and ask for 2 invoices to be reviewed, as were mistakenly not being paid due to incorrect deductible information.
