Embrace - I heard nothing but good about this…
I heard nothing but good about this company but all we get is fights and delays in processing. Very disappointed.
Trupanion - Do not use Trupanion - any other company is more reputable
I completely agree with the other 1-star reviews. This company is nearly impossible to reach. I've spent over an hour just waiting on hold to speak with someone. While they offer a callback option, it’s not much help—you’re still stuck waiting since you don’t want to miss their call and start the process all over again.
To make matters worse, they mishandled my cancellation and only issued a partial refund. The good news? There are other companies that offer better service at a lower price. I highly recommend looking elsewhere.
Seeing the canned replies to mine and all critical reviews reinforces the concerns noted and underscores why you should not choose this company. There are so many simple steps they could take if the cared.
Spot - DO BETTER.
It’s amazing that I pay more a month for my pet insurance. Then I do for my own health insurance and yet they still have the audacity to deny claims.
This company is garbage, They let me know that they denied my claim and Also, at the same time, let me know that they would’ve denied my claim, even if I reached my deductible.
They have the audacity to sit there and argue and email back-and-forth with bold letters.
Spot - Not at all impressed
Not at all impressed. I had 2 claims in one year. One was a basic visit and the other was an emergency visit. Both claims were immediately "completed" which means closed because they felt there wasn't enough medical information. It's up to me to chase down all the support and go back to them and beg them to reopen the claims now. They said they needed my dog's information going back FOUR years before considering whether to reimburse me for her emergency visit. Obviously they are looking for an excuse to deny the claim (find some way to say the issue was pre-existing) or they just want to wear me down so I won't follow up again. Their approach is to "complete" (close) the claim until you present it again and again and again, while they continue to deny, deny, deny. Even if they end up reimbursing me eventually, I can honestly say that they made sure the experience was dreadful and burdensome. It has definitely not been good.
ASPCA - Save yourself the heartache and don't buy this insurance
Refused to pay for my dog's accident, even though coverage is for accidents. They have people reading from a a script to deny coverage, even after 2 vets sent extensive records. Give you the runaround. They don't care about your pets. Horror stories from other clients. I didn't choose this insurance. The policy was sold to to ASPCA. All of the glowing 5 star reviews are "verified", while the honest reviews are "redirected ". STAY AWAY FROM THIS INSURANCE.
IT'S CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TIME
Embrace - Some good and some bad
Promptness and communication are great. However, they do not cover most of every vet bill we get. Plus the deductible combined with monthly fees are almost impossible to say it's a good investment, even if there's surgery or annual visits in one calendar year.
Nationwide - Too expensive after reviewing other pet…
Too expensive after reviewing other pet insurance
Trupanion - Easy to get online, with caveats…
Easy to set up online account and order insurance. Easy to understand interface, though options to edit things are limited, such as adding the contact of secondary owner. Needed to go through the online chat customer support to add that in. Note that if your email has been registered with another previous pet, it cannot be added as a secondary owner contact.

Spot - Decent but its still an insurance company, you cant expect it to be amazing
Submitting estimates is quite easy and approval usually happens quickly which is nice. I would be much more likely to recommend SPOT if the yearly deductible was rolling somehow rather than based on signup date. Pet incidents do not revolve around arbitrary dates. Also the fact that you cannot go down a reimbursement level (to reduce your monthly premium) without locking your ability to go back up in the future is unnecessarily cost restrictive for people on variable incomes. At most there should just be a limit on how often you can switch.
