Cigna - Wisdom teeth extraction consultation
I’m really hoping someone who works in medical billing at a dentist office can help me understand this. For context, I have Cigna Dental PPO. I had an oral consultation today that cost $167. The oral surgeon said I definitely need the bottom ones removed, but said she isn’t worried about the top ones. Then here is an image of what I was quoted after. They said I would either be paying $5809 or $3789 depending on what my insurance says. She didn’t sound confident in what she was saying and was speaking to someone else prior. Then, they tried to make me schedule it with 50% down as if I have $1800-2900 just laying around. I could barely afford the consultation fee. I’m I being got or is this how much people are paying to get their wisdom teeth removed? I’m so lost…
Anthem - Moving States and Out of Coverage Area - Qualifiying Life Event?
Hey everyone,
I'm currently living in CA and am on an Anthem Select HMO through my employer - my entire family (wife, daughter, me) are covered under this plan. My wife is currently pregnant with #2 due in September. However, my family will be moving to Pennsylvania in a couple months, and I will likely be staying with my same employer/plan (this is still to be confirmed but seems like it'll be the case).
However, the Anthem Select HMO does not have coverage in the area we will be moving to, but the company also offers PPO options that do have coverage in the new area. Will moving across the country, at which point my coverage would essentially be lost, count as a qualifying life event and allow us to switch to the PPO coverage? I tried to reach out to the insurance company, but they said they can't make that determination.
Is it a state requirement that determines it? If so, would it be CA state or PA state that would take precedence? I'm waiting to explore further with my company until it's for sure that I'll be staying with this employer as we're kind of keeping it on the hush-hush until it's official.
Curious on your guys thoughts.
Quest Diagnostics - Quest charged bloodwork to former school insurance
Basically what the title says. In July of last year I got bloodwork done at my doctors office back home after graduating from a 4 year university. A few months later I get a bill for 700$ saying that they charged it to my former school's insurance as opposed to my CA state insurance.
I've gone to my doctor's office multiple times and each time they've said they'll handle it but quest keeps sending bills
I'm back in college and need to save as much as I can, is there a way to resolve this with quest? A relative is saying I should send a notarized letter explaining the situation, but I've also heard if I call quest and give them my CA state insurance info it should be better. Is that still possible, or has too much time passed? What's the best thing to do now
Progressive - Progressive misled me to believe if I totaled my car they’d negotiate with the leinholder to lower the balance I’m underwater on
Had collision (not gap) .
Lots of body damage, but totally drivable.
Quoted at $1500 in repairs (after deductible),
The car is an EV and I’ve wanted to trade it for a gas car, but I owe way way more than it’s worth so haven’t.
The claims adjuster told me repeatedly on the phone they’d negotiate with the lienholder if I had their tow truck come and pick it up and progressive could total it so obviously I happily agreed.
Claims adjuster gets back to me, says they’ll send my leinholder 3k after my deductible (this is a fair value of the car) and I’ll still be responsible for the remainder of the balance.
The remaining balance is 9K. (I know, I know..)
I asked what happened to negotiating, he just gaslighted me that that’s not his job and he said he’d *maybe* negotiate.
So I ask for my car back, he said, no I can’t have my car back. How is that possible?
I haven’t signed anything yet, but I don’t get why they pressured me to agree to paying out my lienholder 3k vs 1500 payout to me (after deductible)
I’ll be left with no car and 9K in debt? How can that be legal? Help?
Edit : by asking for my car back I meant , can I have my car back and then they send me the original check for the body damage repairs
Geico - Geico rate increased because of “unreported accident”
I used to be insured by them and never had any accidents. I called roadside assistance once in 2022 because my tire had completely come off the wheel while my boyfriend was driving us back from the airport. Nothing happened, no crashes or collisions or injuries. We literally just pulled over and I wanted to see if someone could help us get another tire. I don’t recall what i said on the phone after explaining the situation but we didn’t end up getting help through my roadside assistance. Never heard a peep from geico about the incident. When they jacked up my rate almost 3x 2 year later and i asked why they didn’t have a reason, certainly not this “unreported accident,” but just said i was flagged as a high risk driver. I assumed at the time it was related to my drive easy habits.
Now i am with progressive but was thinking of switching back. The quote i got was reasonable, and right before i could purchase they asked me about this unreported incident involving my boyfriend and whether he was driver on my policy when it happened. He recently signed up with geico but i’m not sure how they connected his name because i don’t think they even asked when I called roadside, and he definitely didn’t report it.
I just find this very bizarre because they hadn’t asked me about this at all when I was under their insurance but now it’s being used as a reason to increase my policy quote.
Hastings Direct - Hastings cancelled my bike insurance after I passed my full test - Do I need to declare it?
Hi all,
Looking for some advice on this situation:
I had a motorcycle insurance policy with Hastings Direct while riding on a CBT (A1/A2 licence). A few days ago, I passed my full A licence and phoned them to update my details. They then told me that, due to their underwriting criteria, they can no longer insure me with a full licence — and that the policy would be cancelled from the 18th of July 2025.
Shortly after the call, I received an official email confirming the cancellation. It states:
“We’re writing to let you know that your bike insurance policy has been cancelled… This is because of the new information provided. Based on these details, it means we can no longer cover you.”
However, during the phone call, I specifically asked if I’d need to declare this cancellation to other insurers. The rep told me no, I wouldn’t have to, because it wasn’t cancelled due to anything I did wrong (no missed payments, no claims, no dishonesty). They said it was purely down to a change in licence type and eligibility.
I’ve emailed them asking for that in writing to cover myself — but in the meantime:
⸻
My questions are:
1. Do I actually need to declare this as a cancellation when applying for future bike insurance?
2. If I don’t declare it (based on what Hastings told me), can another insurer later void my policy if they find out?
3. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
⸻
I’m trying to avoid getting hit with sky-high premiums over something that wasn’t my fault. Any advice from people in the industry or who’ve been through similar would be much appreciated!
I’ll be pretty shocked if I find out I need to declare this going forward as the policy cancellation outcome has been completely out of my control. Simply phoned to let them know I have now passed my MOD2, I wasn’t looking to change my bike or anything else whatsoever and wanted to continue my policy for the time being with my 2011 Honda CBR. Also worth mentioning — Hastings waived any cancellation fees, and I’m getting a refund for the unused portion of the policy. That seems to suggest they don’t consider it a “bad cancellation,” but I want to make sure I’m not risking non-disclosure by trusting what they said on the phone.
Thanks in advance.
Progressive Insurance - Progressive Insurance question
Hoping someone could possibly shed a little light on my situation. My daughter wrecked her car in front of our house on March 2nd. On March 5th Progressive sent the tow truck to retrieve the vehicle which they towed to an IAA auction yard to have it appraised. The appraiser went on the 7th. I spoke with someone from progressive on the 8th who needed to verify a few things. She said something about it being a total loss which at that time I didn’t know, which apparently she thought I had already been contacted. I told her I hadn’t so she said well I’ll just go over it real quick even though this isn’t my department. She said that it was a deemed a total loss and they valued my car at $8200 something (I don’t really remember the exact number) Little lower than I expected but okay. Anyway I logged into the app to check the status of the claim and I do see it’s a total loss but the only thing I see is the appraisers repair estimate for $8289 and the deduction for the deductible. Is that what they are actually valuing the car at? Or is that simply a repair estimate? We still owe on the car so I’m trying to plan accordingly. I’ve contacted our adjuster but have left messages with no return call as of yet.
Progressive Insurance - Progressive Insurance Question
Hey everyone,
I had a question regarding auto insurance with Progressive. They sent me a memo via email and asked me to call them about folks under the same roof as me not under my insurance. I called them and explained that I declined coverage for all my family members under my roof, for the have their own insurance. They said I still need to "pay" to have them declined under my coverage. I asked the girl over the phone why I need to pay to decline them coverage on my policy. She said it's in case they're passengers.
So let me get this straight, they want me to pay $93+ to state all my parents and siblings are declined on my policy? Even though NO ONE drives my vehicle. Is this legal? They said they're mailing me a document via mail for me to sign and get back to them to continue coverage.
Co-operators - Stay clear from cooperators insurance
Save your money and think twice before choosing Co-operators for business insurance or anything else they offer. You could be a loyal customer for over 10 years with no missed payments, but the moment you inquire about opening a claim, don’t be surprised if you get a call weeks later saying your policy is being cancelled.
Do your research and consider taking your business elsewhere.
Allstate - Allstate reversed liab over 1 year later..
Friend was in a MVA where she was going straight, CV was coming down driveway. CV did not stop, was given citation for reckless driving. She was injured, sought normal treatment. Ambulance/ER/PT/some testing. She had wage loss. VA is the state. Allstate found their insured 100% AF. Zoom forward over a year, 7 months out from SOL in VA. Demand got sent. 1 month after demand sent, Allstate changes liab states 'obtained data' speeding at 12.8 mph over limit on our side. That REALLY is not adding up for this road. There were no skid marks and she slowed down and moved into the other lane trying to avoid but the guy never looked... The PR shows she was doing the speed limit, however, the officer did not arrive or witness any speed. The other guy admitted it was his fault on the scene, but by the time he was being given the citation his fam was there insisting she was speeding(they didn't even see the accident... would be biased anyways). I find it mighty fishy it would take this long for any process to be started on an EDR and I work in insurance, I've never even seen a claim where EDR was pulled on a personal auto. I don't know how they obtained any data bc at this late in the claim I think chain of custody would be an issue and also the extraction method. I'm not sure where that vehicle has been bc it was a TL. Since VA is pure contributory, now with the reversal it's heading to our insurance, which is fine, we had the coverages. The issue lies with the pure contributory. If our insurance also finds the same, they could deny as well is my understanding. I doubt they will, but it's still quite concerning. How is this not a bad faith claim? Doesn't the VA statute say they would have to get permission to access that type of data? Don't they have to be forthcoming on how they obtained that data? This is a very weird situation and could end up costing a lot of money if both ins companies end up denying liab. Allstate already paid for the TL a long time ago. My understanding is even if the title was signed over, the VA statute states they can't access without request since they are an insurer and not using the vehicle for daily routine use. I'm not 100% they pulled EDR, but I can't figure out anything else that makes sense with that verbiage they are delivering. Any ideas?
