Geico - Non - Owner Auto Insurance
Has anybody been able to buy one or get a quote. I am trying and while insurance companies website mention they exist - I am not able to get a quote and the call center agents are equally clueless. Edit - Geico Licensed Insurance Agent said that they are not issuing any NNO (Named Non Owner) Policy currently. So lets see how easy it is to get one.
GEICO - Could separate auto policy for 17F reduce premium?
I currently have an auto policy with only my teenage daughter (17F) after removing my STBX from the policy, but I feel like the premium for my car is higher than it should be and I'm wondering if there are any ways to reduce the premium. I am a 40M with a very clean driving record, my daughter had a claim last October where she hit a fire hydrant and the repair was \~$10k or so (no meaningful property damage to the hydrant). I drive a 2021 Tesla Model 3 and she drives a 2017 Audi A4 that her grandmother gave her. Total monthly premium with GEICO is $548 for my car and $366 for her car. I believe the average Model 3 insurance rate in Colorado should be closer to $300/month and I'm just trying to think of ways to lower my premium. Is it possible to separate policies and save money if I make it so that she can't drive my car and doesn't need to be insured for that? Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated!
Geico - Staying Insured in NJ
Sold my other car and bought one at the same time, then returned the second car and got a full refund. All of this happened within 7 days of each other. Geico said I can't take off the car I returned, despite it not being in my name, without fully losing coverage which will then cause a lapse in my continuous insurance coverage. They basically said I either keep the car on until I find another one, or fully cancel my policy which puts me in a not-so-great spot.
Geico offers non-owner auto insurance, and they couldn't give me a reason they couldnt insure me without a car, only the above "solution".... so if I cancel my policy and try to get a new one, Ill have to pay a down payment again and be subjetc to higher rates because I had a "lapse in coverage".
What would you do?
Geico - Car insurance just went up and I can’t afford it. What can I do?
My car insurance was already extremely high (young driver, NYC), but my policy is set to renew after this month and I just got a notice that it’s going to be even higher. I called Geico customer service to ask what changed, especially since I hardly ever drive anymore (I began driving because I went to college out of state and enjoy the occasional trip to nearby states) and the last time my policy was adjusted, there was a big drop in the payment. Plus, I’ve never been in an accident and don’t have any tickets. The answer I got was that essentially, car insurance is up in New York State, and the adjustment reflects that. I can’t comfortably afford my new insurance rate, and my car is financed, so I’m not really sure what to do. Please help!
I checked some other providers, but the quotes were much higher. Over $1,000 per month, so that’s absolutely not an option. Has anyone ever been in this situation? Honestly, since I don’t drive much anymore and NYC has the MTA, I’m willing to give up my car if it’s possible, I’m just not sure if that’s really an option?
Geico - Pedestrian Ran Into My Car, Now Suing Me—Should I Get My Own Lawyer? (California)
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to get some advice on a situation that’s gotten pretty stressful.
I live in San Diego, California. About two months ago, I was driving around 2 a.m. when a pedestrian ran into my car. He was running across the street diagonally, apparently intoxicated, and hit my car right as the traffic light turned green.
I called emergency services, and he briefly lost consciousness but regained it and was taken to the hospital. I also have a witness who saw the whole thing and gave me their phone number and statement confirming that the pedestrian caused the accident.
At the time, the police report clearly said the pedestrian was at fault. My insurance company (Geico) told me they would handle everything and assured me they had collected the report and all the relevant information.
Fast forward to now: the pedestrian hired a lawyer and is suing me for bodily injuries. I just received a letter from Geico informing me about the lawsuit and requesting my statement again (even though I already provided it right after the accident). It seems like only now they are actually trying to gather the police report and contact witnesses.
I feel that Geico hasn’t been proactive at all and may not be acting fully in my best interests. In the letter, they also mentioned that I have the right to hire my own attorney, and if I do, they will communicate directly with that attorney instead of me.
My main questions:
Should I hire my own lawyer in this situation, or is it better to just let Geico handle it?
What are my chances of recovering my insurance deductible from the pedestrian, given that the police report and witness both confirm he was responsible?
Is it true that a police report can be easily dismissed in these cases?
Could hiring my own lawyer make this situation worse or “bigger” than it already is?
Any guidance, suggestions, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help.
Geico - Geico doesn’t plan to fight for me
As the title states, I was involved in a slow motorcycle collision with a Tesla. I was lane filtering the far right lane on a 3 lane one way street. The Tesla turned right into a parking lot from the center lane without indicating directly into me. The video shows I was in the city (Downtown San Diego) marked lane going 20 mph but due to parked cars in designated parking spots to the right, Geico immediately claimed I would likely be found at fault. This is because my insurance claimed it “technically” isn’t a lane due to parked cars for some reason. This call was not 30 minutes after filing the claim at the scene of the accident. The agent over the phone made it very apparent they weren’t going to fight the fact that the Tesla who turned did not indicate nor check mirrors/blind spots.
Sorry for the long read but can I fight my case to my own insurance (Geico) to avoid an at fault claim.
Geico - Geico increased our rate by $300 after updating odometer and said California law prevents correcting it?
We recently got hit with a $300 rate increase on our 6-month Geico auto policy just because we updated our odometer. Here’s the timeline:
- We bought a used 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV in August 2024. At the time, the odometer read ~30,500 miles.
- In January 2025, we started a new auto policy with Geico.
- Now, in June 2025, we updated the odometer to 36,500 miles through their system.
- After this update, Geico increased our premium significantly.
I called a Geico agent, who told me the system assumes 36.5k miles over the entire life of the car, starting from the car’s model year (Chevy Bolt EUV 2022). Since it’s about 3.5 years old, Geico calculates our annual mileage as ~10,400 miles/year, even though we’ve only driven about 6,000 miles in the 10 months we've owned it.
She also said that California law prohibits them from adjusting the previous odometer data, even if we can prove when we bought the car and how much we’ve actually driven. That part sounded the most questionable to me, but I’m not sure, which is why I’m here for some advice.
I’m not trying to cheat the system, we just want our actual usage reflected accurately. I can provide documentation of the purchase date and odometer at the time (from the bill of sale or DMV forms), but I’m not even sure that can help since the Geico agent said there’s nothing they can do to adjust the previous odometer.
My questions:
1. Is it true that California law doesn’t allow insurers to adjust for actual usage if it wasn’t reported at the start?
2. Has anyone successfully appealed something like this with Geico?
3. Should I just start shopping around now for another insurer that works better for low-mileage drivers?
Appreciate any insight or advice. This feels really unfair and arbitrary, especially since we were trying to be honest and accurate with our info.
GEICO - GEICO removed drive easy …?
GEICO removed my telematics discount after a month. Not exactly sure why the score seemed fine , in the high 80s, and it had been used regularly.
It is what it is, not sure I see the point in arguing with them. It drained battery any way. However, I’m concerned about how much more it will go up at renewal. Anyone have experience with this?
Geico - Got rear ended/diminished value claim?
Today our new 2025 rav4 got rear ended by a driver. It has 5000 miles on it and we just took it to get its first oil change and were given a coupon for free carwashes for a year. Decided to get a wash once we were done. The carwash place is one with a conveyor belt type of thing that brings the car forward. The signs said to go into neutral and let the belt do everything so we did. Suddenly we get banged from the car behind us. The worker at the carwash stopped everything and said multiple times it was the driver behind us at fault. She didn't go into neutral and instead stayed in drive and accelerated, causing her to "jump" the grooves on the belt and hit us. She kept saying she had no idea what happened.
Our car isn't seriously damaged from what we can tell, the back bumper will need replacing and above that is dented. The other driver's car was fine, go figure.
I did ask the witness/employee at the carwash for his name and if he had footage. He said the corporate office would have it. I do have a front dash cam that doesn't really show much but you can hear a loud boom from the impact. I'm hoping and praying my insurance company can see it wasn't our fault.
I know we have to get everything repaired before worrying about a diminished value claim. I'm just wondering how this will all work. We exchanged insurance info and we both have geico. I submitted the claim but how will all this work with trying to get a diminished value claim? Will geico just say no since they're kind of "going against" their own company to try to recoup our loss? Sorry I just don't understand what to do.
