Go Pet Plan - Used to be good, now it's a scam
Years back, before they switched underwriters they were a great company. We got a rescue dog and I bought insurance then took her to the vet. They noted that she needed teeth cleaning. We took her in a few months later for the cleaning and she needed teeth extracted. PetPlan refused to pay out because they noted the need for teeth cleaning in the initial visit. I wanted to cancel, because why am I paying for this if they are just going to find any way out of paying. I had to call and when I told them my problem, she boiled it down to pre-existing concern. So they have no intention of taking my issue seriously or offering better service, just file it under a generic header as a "me" problem not a company issue.
Go Pet Plan - Rate increase of 73% in one year
We started with PetPlan in 2013 when we adopted two rescues. As others have said, we had a big fee bump when they changed underwriters, but we stuck with them. The annual increases continued, sometimes very small, sometimes 20%. We've had some claims, and they were always very prompt and fair with payment; no complaints there. This year the rate for one of my dogs went up 73% in a single year (the fee for my other dog, just a few years younger, went up 20%). I couldn't believe it and called twice to ask them to recheck. They insisted there was nothing to recheck. The rates were set annually by how many claims they had, the state we lived in, the dog breed, and other factors they didn't explain. Well the dog's breed hasn't changed, and the dog has predictably aged one year. I told them I was shocked by this increase and disappointed that now (i) after all these years of sticking with them and paying thousands of dollars; and (ii) my dogs are reaching an age when we might truly need the insurance, their service has priced us out -- it would cost us $6000 a year for the two dogs for 80% coverage (it was $1400 for two dogs in 2016), with no idea how much those fees might go up a year from now. For all their verbiage about how much they care, I certainly don't feel like they care about their middle class customers getting priced out as our dogs age and their rates skyrocket. They are either passing on unacceptable operating costs to their customers or nudging those of us with older dogs out the door. A year ago I would have recommended them highly, but now, I'd suggest you create your own savings account and bypass these heartbreaking rate surprises.
Go Pet Plan - BIG rate increase unacceptable !!
BIG rate increase unacceptable !!! So disappointed to find out that PetPlan have increased the premium on the policy for my 3 yr old dog over 55% !! As noted by others, was given his age (really he's only 3 and only a couple of small claims for eye/ear infection), breed, and where I lived ... all bs responses ... after my 3rd phone call to discuss was told the underwriter increased rates ... they basically say pay it or don't be covered ..... utterly unbelievable
Go Pet Plan - I started with Petplan a year ago would NOT recommend
I started with Petplan , price was reasonable and seemed easy to deal with. I received a letter regarding my renewal and the price of my plan went up 47%, but they are going to give me a discount so it is only going up 27%. My dog is turning 1 and I have had no claims. Would definitely NOT recommend
Go Pet Plan - Flawed
You cannot arrange insurance in advance, which I find ridiculous. Who doesn’t plan ahead? I was told to phone back on the day I wanted the policy to commence, which happened to be a Saturday due to my puppy’s existing insurance ending on Friday. I asked if someone would be available to take my call on a Saturday and was told yes. Just now, I have phoned to be greeted with an automated message that their hours are Monday to Friday 0830-1700. Now my puppy is uninsured for the weekend.
Go Pet Plan - Do not use PETPLAN
Do not use PETPLAN. I have had my dogs covered since I got them...10 and 5 years ago. I did not mind the increase in fees, every company has to be profitable. BUT, recently my dog injured her knee. We took her in and a got a referral to a vet surgeon. After surgery we filed a claim for the 5K surgery. Our claim was denied because we did not take her in for a vet check up in the last year. Between our travelling and COVID, we did not make an office visit last year.
Go Pet Plan - Shady company. Terrible experience with this company
Terrible experience with this company. I was denied my claim, after paying premiums for nearly 3 years, on reasons that, upon my original sign up, was told wouldn't be a factor in the claims process. So I paid premiums for 3 years with them knowing any claim I made wouldn't be accepted. Then, when I did file a claim this past August, they knew within weeks that I would be denied, yet they continued to beat around the bush and make me jump through hoops untill today (end of October). Calling this vet, calling the emergency, calling again and again for months, already knowing it would be denied. Waste of my time, stress and money.
Go Pet Plan - This company is a ripe off
This company is a ripe off. Don't waste your money. I paid into petplan for 2 years when I had to put in a claim and they won't cover nothing. They lied to me when I signed up. I'm now told because my dog has been diagnosed with food allergies they won't cover anything to do with my pets tummy or digestive problems as these are all now considered preexisting condition. What is the point of this plan if they will not cover anything. and if you do actual get them to cover something they now consider it a preexisting condition and will NOT cover any future treatment.
Go Pet Plan - PETPLAN IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE!!
PETPLAN IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE!!! Been paying into this since March 2020, after Asdas premium went up far too expensive. Unfortunately I had to take my poodle into the vets in October as she kept itching her ears, they did a check up, took an ear swab and prescribed ear drops, and ear cleaner, I paid the excess, and my vets who i haven’t ever changed!! Put through the claim, since then i have had nothing but trouble saying they want history, from me, history from my vets, i was then told that my vets have to ring their vet helpline to get more info, they have sent all the history, that in 2012 she has otitis off one ear, (I did not claim at this one)! So 8yrs so they’re now saying this ear problem of excess build up of wax, where it needs cleaning and might in the future need a deep ear clean, have been told it’s doubtful they’ll pay out!!!! They’re trying to make out it’sa pre-existing condition from 8yrs ago!! An absolute joke!! She’s to go back to the vets tomoz with the same ear problem that’s ongoing from the original claim in October, and may not pay out which will leave me with a bill for hundreds! How can PETPLAN quite happily take money from all their customers yet when we need them the most, especially at this financially difficult time refuse to pay out because a dog has otitis 8yrs ago!!!!
Go Pet Plan - Crooks
PLEASE, if you really love your animals, stay away from this company. They are crooks. I am reporting them to a governing body who license insurance companies.
