Lemonade - Lemonade Home Insurance is dropping me in a month. Should I still try to file a hail damage claim for my roof?
So Lemonade had me take some house photographs and asked some questions as we’re approaching the first renewal of our home insurance. Separately, we had some hail storms and our roof got beat up. I had a roofer take a look and he said the roof is a bit old (the pictures he took supported that) and it has impact damage. Well as I’m researching my options, Lemonade says they are dropping us because we have a tree that is close to the house, it’s a small one, and our sewer line is cast iron under the house. Since the hail damage occurred under the Lemonade insurance, is it worth trying to file a claim before they drop me? Will it make it harder for me to find insurance? I imagine a damaged roof is harder to insure than a new one but I’m not sure
Lemonade - Lemonade pet insurance
Hello, I have lemonade insurance for all 5 of my cats. Today I got an email that my claim for my cat was only partially approved (the exam and urinalysis) but not the X-ray. The X-ray was to also check the bladder for uti, and some crystallization was found. They also X-rayed his lungs and found out he has mild asthma. They did not approve the X-ray (and will not approve future asthma treatments) as they’re saying it was a pre existing condition, but it is most definitely not. He went in for sickness twice and both times experienced wheezing because of the sickness and with X-rays was not diagnosed with asthma those times, he also has a nasal anomaly/polyp that causes a funny sounding breathing from his nose, again not asthma but this has been noted in his notes. Has anyone had this happened and successfully appeal? My vet is great and would likely write medical notes or a letter or whatever to help me get his asthma treatment covered.
['Trupanion', 'Lemonade'] - Trupanion switch
I adopted bonded pair of kittens and got them on pet insurance with trupanion at 8 weeks. They just turned two and trupanion has increased my premiums by 70 % in those two years. I understand they don’t raise the premiums based on pets age, but at this rate I won’t be able to afford to insure them until they get old. Looking at switching to lemonade - my one kitty has two minor claims and my boy has none. I realize her two claims will be pre-existing but they aren’t chronic issues.
To the cat parents with lemonade- do you like it? Are you happy? I know I risk their premiums rising as well but at least I can afford more coverage with a smaller deductible to start. Would love your thoughts I want the best for my babies!! Thank you
Lemonade - Lemonade Pet Insurance Claim
My dog was thrown off a balcony by what I believe was the neighbors kid. Broke both of her front legs.
I have the police involved and investigating. The vet bill was over $13k. Her bones are being fused to reduce the chance of lifelong pain from this.
Here’s the deal, I put $5000 down for the surgery (and paid another $1500 for the initial emergency vet visit.) The claims rep is asking for proof the balance I owe the vet is 0 and that the invoice is paid in full.
I read the policy and there’s nothing in there that says I have to prove that it was paid in full.
The closest I found was this:
“Submitting your claim
To expedite your claim review, please file your claim as soon as you can. However, in cases where this isn't possible, we'll accept claims for review up to 180 days from the date of treatment. We require itemized invoices and receipts detailing your pet's information, date of treatment, cost of the services, and the vet's information. You must provide all requested information and documentation during the claims process. All claim payments will be made to you, unless otherwise assigned by you and agreed to by us.”
I pointed this out, told the agent I provided all the listed information and also pointed out that she has already tried two times to falsely deny my claim. (Initially she said I had coverage with someone else then said my policy was canceled.) I also asked her where in the policy I am required to provide what she is asking.
Can they force me to pay this in full before they refund me? I put the $5000 on credit cards with a 40% interest rate so I’m trying to get this resolved asap. I’m beyond stressed, but thankful the vet at least allowed us to put $5000 for surgery instead of forcing us to put her down because I don’t have access to that sort of money. Even the $5000 was difficult to acquire.
Yes I realize now I made a bad insurance decision but that doesn’t help me in this immediate moment.
Lemonade - Why is Lemonade quoting me 107 dollars a month for a 3 year old dog
Hey
My dog and I are moving to NYC this fall. She's a 3 year old spayed beagle. I did some research and lemonade was suppose to be the cheapest option but they are quoting me 107 dollars per month for a 80% deductible! What is happening?
Any other options for pet insurance? I was hoping to be under 25 dollars per month for my pet so that I can put another 15 towards renters insurance. I am a student for the next year and a half so I wanted to be careful with money just for the next year and a half. Any help will be appreciated !
Edit 1: you guys have been so helpful with such amazing suggestions! Moving internationally all these suggestions will help me make the safest decision for my girl! So thank you so very much !!
Lemonade - Cancelling Lemonade and renewing with additional coverage
Hi everyone,
I have a 9 month old maltipoo. I suspect he has chronic GERD since he throws up yellow bile if he goes around 6-8 hours without a full meal (like overnight or when he is stubborn and wont eat his lunch).
This is to say I want to take him to the vet asap. But before that I wanted to add dental coverage to his policy just in case this issue persists and it causes teeth problems later in his life and then they wont cover it because it was a “pre-existing condition.” Dental work on dogs is very expensive!
My problem now is that I emailed asking how I can go about adding this to my policy since I couldn’t find how to do so on their app. This is the response I got. i don’t understand why I can’t ADD coverage. I want to pay MORE money. I wasn’t aware that when I bought the insurance for the year it was locking the policy for that entire year.
Now I’m thinking of cancelling all together and renewing with the actual coverage that I wanted. Has anyone tried doing that? Would they let me? Or would they recognize my name and vets and ban me or something.
Thank you for all the help
TLDR; has anyone been able to cancel their Lemonade pet insurance and renew with the actual coverage/policy they wanted?
Lemonade - Having issues with Lemonade pet Insurance
I’ve been using it for my dog for a few months now and I’m starting to feel uncertain about whether it’s the best option. The claims process has been much slower than expected, with a lot of in review updates and I haven’t received any reimbursements yet. It’s making me a little nervous especially since my vet bills are starting to stack up.
I’m just looking to see if others have had similar experiences and whether you think I should stick it out or switch to another insurer.
Lemonade - Good Experience with Lemonade
Hi, I just wanted to share my experience with Lemonade after having gone through cancer with my recently passed kitty, Tortilla, who was 6 years old both when we bought her plan and at the time of her passing. She had large cell GI lymphoma that suddenly appeared in early May. I got her plan (premium preventative care package, 100k spending limit, 90% reimbursement with $250 deductible, end of life coverage, dental disease coverage, vet visit fees). We had over 7K in vet bills, but lemonade actually covered around at least 6K I believe.
I actually only got her a plan because one I somehow had a horrible feeling something terrible would happen to her (I hate and am grateful that I planned for that but I wish I had for no reason) and two because we had adopted a dog (her name is Lexie) who we bought insurance for too late and she had a million pre-existing conditions that basically rendered nothing covered for her.
We wound up going the palliative care route, and unfortunately we didnt get much time I believe not even a month passed before she left us after her diagnosis. But, the bright side of this horrible experience was we were not saddled with thousands in debt since my family and I are not doing so well financially this year. They covered 6K of the treatment and diagnosis bills, and completely covered end of life fees and memorial items. I am so grateful I decided to buy her plan.
Now, the negatives. Tortilla worked out great since she didn’t have a history of illness till the cancer and only had preventative vet visits in that history with no illnesses popping up. I will say, though, the approval waiting period was insanely long. Took like more than 2 weeks for reimbursement, but they did approve us for a crazy amount (at least to me). So if that’s important to anyone, keep in mind the bigger value claims take a longer time to get approved. With my dog Lexie, however, this did not work out as well…
As a first time dog owner, I did not realize how many health issues a dog could have. My cat Tortilla came first, I’d had her for nearly 4 years (adopted her in Sept. 2020) at the time of getting my dog (April 2024). Tortilla was always healthy and vibrant, and while I wish I would have been more proactive with vet visits, I can’t change anything now. So, my mom and I decided to hold off on getting pet insurance for the first few months. Horrible mistake.
My dog happened to have basically a weak weak stomach and everlasting GI issues causing behavioral issues (from pain) that are still unresolved to this day. She’s been in and out of 6 vets with over 13 visits since last year. I was only 19 during this and had no idea what to do and neither the idea to get pet insurance since I was so overwhelmed, and most of it fell on me since my family wanted to keep Lexie and I also didn’t have the heart to give her back to her rescue.
So, I fought hard to get her diagnosed and treated, which I’m still fighting to today. But, now my mom and I have spent probably over 5K on her vet bills too (on top of Tortilla’s). I might as well have lit the money on fire that’s how helpful everything has been. So finally we got her insurance in early September, only after having her behavioral issues diagnosed. This was a horrible mistake on my end because now nothing was covered.
So, long story short Lexie saw a million different vets (including a vet behaviorist) and absolutely everything I filed for was pre-existing and none of that 5K is covered. I don’t think this is all Lemonade’s fault or anything of the sort, it’s just an unfortunate situation because I was misguided and overwhelmed back then by both Lexie being a young puppy with behavioral issues and GI issues.
Overall, I honestly would recommend Lemonade for anyone signing up a new, young pet or even an older pet with no pre-existing conditions. I’m not sure if I would recommend it over others, like PetsBest or Trupanion (although I have been seeing some pretty insane price spikes for others from Trupanion). I’m still weary but since they were so helpful with Tortilla (even if it took a bit) I decided to stick with them and signed up my two new kittens we adopted before she passed and made sure to sign them up early (3 weeks after adoption).
I also would say a positive was how easy it was to file claims and speak with your claim rep. I don’t really like talking over the phone, so it was nice just talking via email, text, and the support center. It was also a very smooth process to file the claims, since everything is just in the app and you can customize the types of procedures and costs you’re inputting (there’s options to put general diseases already in their database while filing a claim but you can add custom text which I found helpful).
So yeah. I honestly don’t know if the grass is greener for other companies, but I feel like most insurance companies are not exactly looking out for the pet or even human as their priority, and I feel Lemonade isn’t too too much like that. Hope this was helpful for anyone that read through all of it, thank you!!
TLDR: Lemonade was very helpful for my cat with no illness history that contracted sudden cancer (reimbursed over 5K-6K). Not so helpful for my dog as she had pre-existing conditions so nothing was covered, but if anything new pops up it should be OK (she’s still a young dog). App is very navigable and easy to use, claim support staff is helpful and friendly, larger bill claims can take awhile to process though (took 2-3 weeks for Tortilla’s bills). Can’t really do phone calls, but I did prefer the email and text system (personally).
Lemonade Pet Insurance - Has anyone had a good or bad experience with Lemonade Pet Insurance? Is it worth it?
I’ve been thinking about getting Lemonade Pet Insurance for my dog, but I’m not really sure if it’s a good deal or just another scam. I’ve read some reviews that say Lemonade Pet Insurance is affordable and quick to process claims, but others mention hidden fees and terrible customer service. Honestly, I don’t want to end up paying all this money and then having Lemonade Pet Insurance deny my claim when my dog gets sick. Has anyone here actually used Lemonade Pet Insurance long-term? How’s the coverage, especially for things like emergencies or hereditary conditions? Would love to hear real experiences before I make a decision.
Lemonade Pet Insurance - Lemonade Pet Insurance Rate increase steadily, becomes 5x the price after 3 years!
We first joined at around $30 but it is now $150 just 3 years later!
While I appreciate that they respond through email, will make up reasons for care reimbursement rejection - and they don't seem to have a transparent appeal process!
