State Farm - Parked car got hit by an amazon driver who then sped off. Use my insurance or trust amazon’s third party?
My car was parked and hit by an amazon delivery truck. They were delivering packages to either my apartment or one next door. He side swiped my car leaving the parking lot. Luckily a person saw and tried to flag him down and he sped off and drove off. The witness then reported it to my apartment management who got the video footage from their surveillance cameras.
I have the photos of the amazon truck hitting my car, a clear view of his license plate, a witness, and a police report (although the policeman said he couldnt read the state on the plate but i figured that out later and gave it to my insurance so it might not be in the report).
I called amazon and got two different reps who barely spoke english. I ended up calling my insurance (state farm) and they were great and said i should do a claim as typically this doesnt affect premiums.
After i initiated the claim last week, yesterday i finally got a call back from amazon who said a rep from ARC, their dedicated claims (third party?) company, would reach out next week. I researched ARC and all the reviews are awful. Everyone says they lowball you and take months to settle.
Should i just go through with the claim with state farm? I havent gotten any estimates yet. And my rep for state farm said this would likely not raise my rates. But im guessing the fix will be several thousand for a new fender and bumper and maybe wheel rim.
I havent had a claim in 10 years and felt good about that, but just wanna make sure im not doing this wrong. Thanks.
State Farm - CA home insurance and trust
Thinking about moving my primary residence into a trust. However, I was grandfathered into a state farm home insurance very affordable for my location and I doubt I’ll be able to get my home insured since it’s now high fire risk since a map redraw.
I am also thinking about moving my home under a trust.
Does changing benefiacury of a home insurance incur a risk of losing my current policy (like separate underwriting is needed?)
State Farm - $399 for two cars and renters…am I getting screwed?
I’m in Illinois and have a pickup truck and a minivan. I also rent a house from my in-laws. I have State Farm for my policies and they have been going up and up and up the last few years. My coverages are standard and I have no claims or tickets on record.
State Farm - State Farm Aspirant Program
So I got hired onto State Farm in the Aspirant Program since I already have experience selling life insurance. It all sounded great when they were hiring me. But…..
I am a week into this and I am getting zero direction and am told to just look into the book and see if there is any way to resell life insurance to any clients already with life insurance.
Does anyone have any experience in this program. Because as of now I am a little confused on what this program actually is. It seems more like I got hired to be a sales guy for the agent instead of actually striving to be an agent.
State Farm - State Farm-Teen Driver-No More Discounts?! New Norm?
Currently have State Farm (been with them for 12+ years), and just learned that the defensive driving and good grades no longer available for teen drivers. Just the defensive driving and steer clear.
Is that the new norm for insurance companies?
Trying to obtain as many discounts for my teen driver that he could be available for. Didn't know if it was time to shop around!?!?
ETA: Next best option to shop around to? State Farm was pretty reasonable when I added him, and has been good to work with. Bummed about the news.
State Farm - State Farm Trying to cancel my policy for doing what they want
I have been a State Farm policyholder for nearly 30 years. Last year, they warned me that my roof needed replacement, otherwise they would cancel my policy in September, 2025. I replaced the roof that summer and sent State Farm the evidence. I even have voicemails from State Farm acknowledging that I have replaced the roof and even suggesting I might be able to get a discount for the new roof's impact resistance.
Today I received a letter that they would cancel the policy because I hadn't replaced the roof, just before the height of hurricane season for our area.
Either incompetence or underhandedness on their part? I can't tell.
State Farm - 3rd times the charm or replacement?
Back in 2023/2024 we had a tree brand fall on the A frame of our Highlander. We called state farm, they decided after an assessment a repair would do the trick. They wouldn’t let us use Toyota without paying 50% out of pocket. So we ended up using their preferred shop. Long story short, the replaced the windshield and “repaired” the A frame. It was still leaking and we went back, they “repaired it again” and it was fine (minus the water stains on the head liner). It’s been about 16 months or so, and it is leaking again. No additional accidents or anything. My wife and I are incredible tired of dealing with this. Anyone have any tips on dealing with state farm for this situation? The value of the Highlander went down 10K just from the accident alone which is crazy state farm wouldn’t give us compensation for(IMO). We honestly would prefer to have a new Camry or something at this point and not worry about mold, stains, or possible leaks again. TIA.
State Farm - Insurance Renewal/Non-Renewal
Ins: State Farm
I got into a wreck that I was deemed at-fault for in May 2024. My auto policy at that time renewed from Feb 2024-August 2024. In August 2024, they renewed me again and raised my rate (obviously). Then in December 2024, I received a letter from State Farm saying they weren’t renewing me (Feb 2025-Aug 2025) for being high-risk and I had to find new coverage. So my question is: Why did they renew me again in August 2024? Why didn’t they just non-renew me at that point?
State Farm - Is this normal? (Driver’s License)
I got a missed call followed by a text from an Agent I just recently purchased car insurance from requesting a photo of my Drivers License.
I have no accidents/claims going on. I’m the only driver. No co-mingling of cars/insurance with other potential drivers and no other potential household drivers are in any accident/claim mix up either.
She asked me for it over the phone a few days ago when I was purchasing. I told her that I wasn’t comfortable sharing her a photo of it because I had already given her every bit of information from my DL.
*Side note: She’d made me feel a tad bit uncomfortable during the quoting process so this was my attempt of staying vigilant since it’s a small agency/broker*
She replied that it was fine that I declined as she already had all the DL’s info I had already provided her.
But today I have a missed call, voicemail, and text from her stating the company requires it.
Is this normal/common practice?
I briefly worked in insurance myself (SF) and per my training that was sensitive info so getting it emailed to us/texted to us was already merky waters. I was trained to take the data directly over the phone and immediately input it in the system—avoiding requesting info being sent to you and sitting in a text/email portal rather than a secure encrypted server.
TIA.
State Farm - State Farm may drop our insurance. Help.
I have a long winded question. I want to preface this by saying I am not into fraud. I am a public employee and can’t have any issues related to that.
3 years ago we had a bad hail storm in the Chicago area. We have a close friend who is an adjuster for a roofing company. We coach our kids together and he tells me “hey do you want a new roof?” He tells me everyone is getting approved after the bad hail storm. I have zero experience with this so I said “of course.” I figured that’s why I pay insurance and this guy said it so non-chalantly so I agreed to it. He comes over, looks at the roof and submits a claim.
A week or two later he tells me that our insurance denied a new roof and only said they would cover $1,000 in repairs. In my mind it’s a win since we get repairs done.
Fast forward a year later and we have another hail storm. Our friend says to me “this time you will definitely get a new roof.” Again, we have no idea this is an issue. He looks at our roof and submits a claim. A week later we get a call from our agent and they tell us they are likely going to drop us. This is where my wife and I panic and wonder “what the hell is going on?” We get the insurance to stop the claim and somehow they do stop it and we don’t get dropped and don’t get the repairs done. So far no issues but still we are very worried about it.
Since then we have had a few roofing companies out and the prices are crazy. Like 12k just to repair and 25k to replace the whole roof.
My question is this: Would you recommend that we replace the roof on our dime? We have the money to do it. This is what I’m leaning towards but what happens if we have a really bad storm with significant damage? Does State Farm drop us but still have to pay for the damages or replacement? I don’t want to replace the roof, have significant damage, and then State Farm says nope you’re dropped and we aren’t paying?
OR, should I switch insurance companies before any work and then replace my roof anyway to lower the premium cost with a new insurance company?
Insurance prices are ridiculous right now but state farm is still lower than any other insurance company I have had quotes from.
Thank you for any advice you can provide.
Edit: I agree with all the comments that the guy screwed me. I am aware that the claims follow me. I need to find an honest person who can tell me if I really need a roof replacement. If not, I’m willing to ride it out until I do actually need a replacement. The thought of doing it now came because in 5 years we will have 2 in college and one in high school. We figured we would take the expense now rather than in a few years when money is a bit tighter. Still unsure of what we will do. I don’t think I need a new roof immediately but I know it will be in the next 5-10 years.
