State Farm - Passenger in accident
I was in the backseat of my friend’s car who was at fault in an accident. I ended up going to the ER to get checked out (CT scan, no findings) and Chiropractor (X-rays done, MRI to come later). Got a lawyer to help with PIP since this is my first accident and idk what’s going on. My friend is pissed saying I’m suing her and going to make her monthly go up hundreds of dollars due to the claim my lawyer made against her insurance. That’s not the case, right? State is FL.
State Farm - Is this normal?
State Farm raised my insurance from $180 a month to $340 over the span of 6 months. Very little and random explanations. My car is 10 years old, it’s insane. P.s. anyone know of good and not stupid expensive insurance in Los Angeles?
State Farm - Second opinion on totaled car valuation?
I have a 2020 Hyundai Kona with 50K miles that I bought two years ago, with 40K miles, for about $20,000.
I recently drove into a parking garage with my bike rack on my car, causing roof damage. They are considering it totaled with an initial estimate of $10,600 in damages on a car valued at $15,600.
First, that seems low, given that I've seen other vehicles online with the same miles for $17,000 or more.
They are also trying to claim that the car has $3,000 in unrelated damages, even though I've never hit anything, scratched anything, bumped into anything, etc. I suppose there must be minor dings or scratches from driving it in the city (I've asked them to email me photos), but regardless, $3,000 seems high for whatever it is. I'd also argue that I've been paying insurance rates on a car valued at closer to the $20,000 I paid for it, not....$10,000?
My question: Does it seem reasonable that a regular seeming car with no issues beyond standard wear and tear would see a $3,000 devaluation like this? Can I get a second opinion on the value of my car, and this prior damage? How do I go about doing that, and what would it cost?
On a slightly unrelated note...is insurance just kind of insane right now? I feel like I'm hearing stories that they are totaling everything these days. (I have State Farm, comprehensive coverage).
State Farm - Home insurance while in probate
My father died and we are in process of cleaning and getting ready for resale in Illinois. I called State Farm and explained they told me the renewal in October may be subject to non renewal. And said to add a vacancy clause will be very expensive. Should I shop Around now or wait? I am executor. What happens to utilities if house isn’t insured? Someone told me they get turned off.
State Farm - Does the primary owner need to be insured if they live in a different state?
When I bought my car in 2022 i was living with my dad in florida and he signed for the car with me, in order to bring my payments down a bit the dealer recommended he be listed as the owner and i am the co-owner. I have since moved to Illinois and I was looking to bring down my insurance by getting my own policy, but he ended up receiving a threat to suspend his license for the car not being insured even though it was, so i just added him to my policy anyway. Now I’m trying to get a new policy because unfortunately my dads been in like 3 accidents in the last few years so State Farm dropped me after i added him on. Does anyone know if the primary owner HAS to be insured even if across the country or if he could file something specific proving insurance without him being listed? Or would i be able to just make myself the primary owner even though i’m still financing the car?
State Farm - 81-year-old father's car hit by city trash truck
My dad's car was hit by a city trash truck in upstate New York. He was stopped at an intersection and it hit him as it completed a turn onto the road he was on. He was not injured, thank god.
My dad was driving an old (2006) SUV that was still in great shape with low miles that he adored. The front bumper and fender on the driver's side is smashed but it is still technically drivable. His insurance (State Farm) is offering him $4100 to surrender the car, or just over $3,000 if he wants to keep it as owner retained salvage.
My dad is very upset because he loves this SUV and feels like he should be made whole since this accident wasn't his fault at all. I think the amount they're offering is generous given the age of the car and I've explained this to him. He wants to keep it and fix it himself (restoring cars is his hobby). But it looks like NY will still assign this a salvage title and he thinks this is unfair.
Does he have any other options here? He did not get a rental car as State Farm suggested but has been driving his brother's car instead. He has taken time off his part-time job to deal with this situation, so I suggested he add up the time off work plus any mileage and gas bought for his brother's car and tell State Farm about this too.
He's just really upset and I'd like to help him with tips on anything else he can do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
State Farm - Advice on filing a hail claim
Seeking advice from folks involved in the auto insurance industry...
A bit of background. We've been insured with State Farm continuously for over 30 years, getting both home and auto insurance from them. A couple of weeks ago we received a notice that they were dropping us from our auto coverage because there were 4 claims on our record:
1. An accident where my wife was at fault, where she hit a car in a parking lot. Our insurance ended up paying out about $3,000 for that accident (mostly to other driver.. very little damage to our car)
2. An accident where my 17 year old daughter rear-ended another car at low speed. There was minimal damage to the other vehicle (scratches on the bumper) but due to the age of the car my daughter was driving, the amount of damage to her car was high enough that the vehicle was totaled, and the insurance paid about $6k to us for the totaled vehicle.
3. My older daughter was riding her bike (pedaled bike, not a motorcycle) 4 years ago and was hit by a car who illegally ran a stop sign. The other driver was found to be fully at fault, and State Farm paid absolutely nothing for that claim to anyone. In Texas apparently anytime there is an accident with a bike and police are called, it gets reported to your insurance.
4. My older driver was riding her bike again 2 years ago and was again hit by a car who rear ended her as she was legally riding on a city street. Again, the other driver was found to be fully at fault, and State Farm paid absolutely nothing for that claim.
State Farm said that those 4 accidents were enough to drop us from coverage. (Technically, it's a non-renew, when our policy ends in about 3 weeks.) While I personally strongly disagree with them considering the 2 bike accidents, their representative told me that they are within their rights to do so, and that they have indeed done so, and that "there is nothing you can do to appeal". That upsets me, but that actually isn't my question!
Because we're being dropped, we've searched for alternative insurance. I have obtained quotes from a variety of companies, and found that Progressive is offering coverage that is comparable (actually, a little better) than the State Farm coverage we had, at a fairly significant reduction in cost over what we had been paying State Farm, so we're switching as soon as our current term with State Farm ends in a few weeks.
On one of our vehicles that is currently insured (with comprehensive and collision coverage), we sustained hail damage on the car a couple of years ago, resulting in dents to a number of the body panels and a crack in the windshield. None of these things bothered us that much, and we've just let them go. However, we are considering filing a claim for that damage before we leave State Farm and getting them repaired. I'm not sure what the total cost will be, and it's a somewhat older car, so I'm worried that MAYBE the cost of repairs could end up reaching the dollar threshold where they would total the car, but there is nothing whatsoever else wrong with the car.
Here's my real question: If we did file this claim with State Farm before we leave them, is there a potential that this could come back to bite us later with Progressive? Would having this claim for hail damage impact our rate with Progressive, either now or later? Also, if they did decide to total the car, it's almost certain we would choose to buy the vehicle back (not relinquish title) and then hopefully fix the damage on our own, as best we could, using whatever State Farm paid out after the buyback. However, would the fact that the car had been totaled impact its future insurability or our rates for insurance coverage? (We've had a history of always getting "full coverage" on our cars, even though they are paid off.) My understanding is that Texas does not require a salvage title on a vehicle if it is totaled due to hail damage, although I'm not positive of that.
Any advice from folks "in the know"? Thanks so much!
State Farm - Has anyone had any issues with State Farm safe and save?
So my driving record is pretty good, all of my scores are at 100. Last month in June, I was getting on the interstate and had to pick up speed quickly so I got marked for acceleration and cornering. Those 2 events brought me down to 60 something from 1 time. Usually after I have an event, it doesn't take long for me to get back up to 100 as I don't like to accelerate as quick. It's been over a month with no other events and it won't go up. I drove yesterday and my score was 89 for acceleration and 88 for cornering. After my 3 trips I checked the app and hour later and it went up to 90 and 89. This morning I get back on and it dropped both to 88 even though I haven't driven since yesterday. I called 3 customer service lines and my local state farm representative and I'm getting the run around. My 6 months discount is for August so I'm wondering if it's doing this intentionally so I don't get as big as a discount when I'm up to 100 for everything.
State Farm - How to handle a Denied Renter's Insurance Claim
I recently had a claim denied. For context, I lived in VA and had State Farm insurance for several years. Shortly before I moved out of state, my wife lost her engagement ring. I assumed that was just a total loss and didn't think anything else of it until I was setting up insurance in my new state, and they recommended that I talk to my old agent to see if it was covered.
I then called my old agent's office in VA, and they told me that I should file a claim because that loss should be covered. Less than 24 hours later I get a call from the claims department saying that my policy does not cover lost jewelry unless it was stolen.
To my understanding, having a denied claim can hurt me by causing future premiums to go up or making it more likely for me to be rejected for coverage outright. Is there anything that I can do to fix this given that the only reason that I even filed a claim to begin with was that they told me to do it?
State Farm - State Farm will only reimburse rental cost
I was rear ended by a State Farm customer and they have accepted responsibility. I have been extremely nice until now but I am done. I asked about a rental car and told them it didn't have to be a big F150 like I drive and I could get by with something small because I work from home and don't go out much. They said great, go rent something and then file for reimbursement when I get my truck back. Since when am I responsible for renting the car and paying for it up front? They won't give me anything in writing that says they'll reimburse me for a specific daily amount or number of days. The letter says "reasonable cost" which is just way to vague. What's reasonable to me might not be reasonable to them. And I'm not, but what if I wasn't able to rent a car myself because I don't have a credit card or checking account.
Side question - if I say I need a truck do they have to cover the cost of renting a truck?
