Spot - Hard to work with
Hard to work with, claims keep getting denied for silly reasons.
Spot - $130 a month to deny every claim
$130 a month to deny every claim citing an unrelated condition.
And not honoring their “preexisting condition” policy, claiming that schistosomiasis is not a curable disease despite being provided peer reviewed research and letters from veterinarians explaining that this is incorrect.
Spot - Sometimes have to submit claims twice…
Sometimes have to submit claims twice or call customer service to get a claim paid.
Spot - Absolutely the worst Pet Insurance…
Absolutely the worst Pet Insurance Company! Filed a WELLNESS Claim and they denied it even though it was covered. I have sent in the Invoices 19 times and they say they can't read them, but I sent the same invoices to other people and they are just fine.
SPOT PET INSURANCE IS A SCAM! DO NOT USE!
Spot - Spot citing ridiculous and invalid pre-existing condition to deny claims.
My dog recently had an issue with an abscessed tooth, which she is still being treated for.
The company has repeatedly denied insurance claims, citing a pre-existing condition, because the vet records show she had plaque on her teeth and gum disease signs in the past. The vet has confirmed these are not related and information has been repeatedly provided to Spot, yet they are still refusing to reimburse the claims. There will be other claims coming as well as she is still under treatment that I'm sure will be denied as well.
Spot - Extreme increases to annual premium (50%)
My policy has increased 50% for a single cat that hasn’t had any claims since starting with this company. I reached out and was told the increase was "necessary due to either the age of your pet, advances in veterinary medicine, or an update to the coverage that your policy provides". I compared the new policy to the last and there was no change in coverage. My cat is 12. The premium went from $742.92 to $1,113.72. In my opinion they are preying on pet parents. If you already have a policy, be sure to login to the site often and diligently check your mail towards your annual date because your payment could increase over $30/m.
Spot - Bait and Switch scam.
This company is horrible! What a scam they pull. We adopted a Golden Retriever in July 2024. Purchased pet insurance from Spot and chose “Accident Only”. We passed all waiting periods and made monthly payments on time. Cut to March 2025, my dog became injured in the backyard after his morning walk. He was playing and running, and slipped in the wet grass. He then became unwilling to stand and unwilling to walk as the afternoon progressed. We made the decision to take him to emergency vet where radiographs were taken and pain meds and anti inflammatory given. We then submitted a claim which was promptly denied as we didn’t provide an “exact and specific time” for the incident. We immediately appealed and provided ALL of his medical records AGAIN (this was also done at the application time). The appeal was just denied. What an absolute bait and switch this company pulled. Be very aware of doing business with them.
Spot - It’s so expensive and doesn’t cover…
It’s so expensive and doesn’t cover nearly enough. My one dog’s monthly rate just increased $60/month with no warning. We’re paying nearly $300/month for one dog and not even half of his last wellness visit was covered.
Spot - Had expensive medical bill including…
Had expensive medical bill including vaccinations as well as other services and only pay insurance payed $20. It would be cheaper just to open a savings account and save the monthly costs for future use rather than just continuing to pay insurance.
Spot - Incredibly disappointed
Incredibly disappointed in how a presurgical exam, which is required for neuter/spay was denied as it is considered a preventative exam and therefore counts as a wellness exam. So if your dog received an annual exam within the same year it will be getting spayed or neutered, know you will have to pay for that out of pocket.
