Embrace - Embrace pet insurance is a rip off
I recently took my cat in for a mouth surgery to remove an infected tooth. The bill came out to be almost $600. Since I wasn’t enrolled in the wellness rewards it only covered $108 after a $200 deductible. When I pay $130 a month for both of my cats. When I first got this it was $60 for both of them and it has now doubled over the years to only cover a 1/6th of my cats surgery? I can’t believe it.
Any recommendations for any pet insurance for my cats? They are pretty healthy overall indoor cats, I just like to keep this for my peace of mind in case anything happened but with this recent increase year and now this, I can’t justify embrace.
Pets Best - Pets Best is a scam.
They just randomly started denying chemo treatments for my dog after covering them for a period of time. Told us to contact the state with our complaint. Absolutely insane
Pet’s Best - Will Pet’s Best cancel policy for too many claims?
Has anyone had experience with this? My dog (German Shepherd) has never had any serious health issues — just some pretty nasty allergies. I signed up for Pet’s Best last December (when my dog was 5 years old), and I swear ever since I signed up, it’s been issue after another with her.
First, in May she got SUPER sick, just GI upset, but we were back and forth from the vet for a week or two straight. I paid my bill with my emergency savings, Pet’s Best reimbursed me my 90% after the deductible, no issue.
Then comes June. My dog suddenly was unable to jump onto the couch, into the car, etc. I brought her to the vet, got x-rays, and my claim was approved yesterday. They’re reimbursing 90%.
Now today, I noticed some swelling around my dog’s anus. I’m waiting to hear from the vet on whether or not I need to bring her in today. I’m here panicking that Pet’s Best is going to think there’s some sort of fraud going on, and they’ll cancel my policy.
I swear it’s not fraud, I’m just having the worst luck of my life 😭
Lemonade Pet Insurance - Lemonade Pet Insurance Rate increase steadily, becomes 5x the price after 3 years!
We first joined at around $30 but it is now $150 just 3 years later!
While I appreciate that they respond through email, will make up reasons for care reimbursement rejection - and they don't seem to have a transparent appeal process!
MetLife - Is MetLife Pet Insurance really worth it or just another scam? Need honest reviews!
Hey everyone, I’m considering getting MetLife Pet Insurance for my dog but I’m so confused about whether it’s actually good or just a waste of money. I’ve heard mixed things and want real opinions from people who have actually used MetLife pet insurance. Does it cover enough? Are the claims process and customer service decent? Or is it just another insurance company that makes promises but doesn’t deliver? I’ve been burned before with other pet insurances that seemed great at first but then denied my claims or had crazy restrictions. Looking for honest reviews about MetLife pet insurance — did it help with vet bills? Was it easy to deal with? Any tips or things I should be aware of? Thanks in advance, pet owners!

**June 6: 1st Emergency Visit**
I brought him in due to a nasty hotspot on his tail. He had to be sedated for the clip and clean and was prescribed multiple medications (gaba, traz, steroids, antibiotics, and animax). He was also given a Cytopoint shot for $240.
Total: $881.92
Not Covered: $6.00 (Hazardous Waste Disposal)
Deductible: $500
Co-Pay: $87.60
Reimbursed: $288.32
*Claim took 2.5 weeks to process*
**June 22: 2nd Emergency Visit**
Started having diarrhea and throwing up June 20. Became lethargic. By June 22, he was on 3 days without a meal and chronic vomiting and diarrhea. Doctor did a Full Panel (CBC, Chem 17, Lytes) & Ultra Sound to rule out underlying causes and blockage, administered fluids to rehydrate. He also needed to be sedated during the Ultrasound. We were able to take him home with probiotics, anti-nausea, and antibiotics.
Total Cost: $2,513.34
Not Covered: $119.48 (Hazardous Waste Disposal & Probiotics)
Co-Pay: $239.38
Reimbursed: $2,154.48
*Claim took 2 days to process*
**June 23: Picked up Appetite Stimulant from Vet**

Co-Pay: $27.06
Reimbursed: $243.56
*Claim took 2 days to process*
**June 25: 3rd Emergency Visit - Overnight Stay at the Vet Hospital**
He was on day 5 without food, we were unable to consistently give him medication because he couldn't keep anything down. At this point, he was very very lethargic, stayed in bed all day, and was still having diarrhea. We were starting to get really worried as he has started to lose a bunch of weight.
Doctor concluded that he should stay overnight as they will need to administer medications and fluids through an IV, feed him through a tube, and do an x-ray.
Recommended diagnostics included fecal testing and cortisol test.
We were able to pick him up June 26: His cortisol came back normal, ruling out Addison's disease. Fecal Testing came back Negative.
Total Cost: $4,776.24
Not Covered: $18.54 (Hazardous Waste Disposal)
Co-Pay: $475.73
Reimbursed: $4,281.97
*Claim took 2 days to process*
**SUMMARY**
Total Costs: $8,442.12
My Out of Pocket Costs: $1,473.79
Insurance Covered: $6,968.33
Nationwide - Alternative to Nationwide
My dog is 7, I've had her on Nationwide's comprehensive plan since she was 6 months old (they reimburse 90% for anything performed or prescribed by a vet after hitting $250 deductible), and of course I've heard the stories about older-ish pets on these old plans getting dropped without warning. I'm trying to prepare for us getting dropped, I'm just still very undecided as to our next best option. She has a history of bilateral ccl tears and we did tplo's on both legs. She will probably have arthritis because of this plus any potential hardware removal necessary (no problems so far, I just know it's a possibility). Besides that, she (knocking on all the wood) hasn't been diagnosed with any chronic conditions.
I've been looking at AKC since they cover pre-existing after 365 days, and I want to get her signed up fairly quickly so we can start the clock on 365 days, plus I think I read that they don't take dogs on that plan 9yo and up. But even AKC's plan lacks a lot of the preventative coverage I have now, even with the add ons which do increase the premium quite a bit.
I know i always have the option of putting my would-be premium into a hysa every month and just paying for everything myself. I'm just so scared of getting hit with bills that will outpace my savings.
Has anyone else been in this situation and found a good alternative? I know I've been a little spoiled with nationwide, but I did sign her up early thinking I would have her covered for life. Thanks in advance!
Lemonade - Savings Account vs Pet Insurance
So our Lemonade pet insurance is starting to be somewhat outrageous - $150 (80% Preventative) and growing at 7 years old. Healthy dog currently, but when we first got it, visited quite a few times. Lumps but not cancerous. Etc.
Pet insurance ALSO does not always work. Lemonade also does not have a straight-forward appeal process when one of their staff misunderstands an issue and mis-categorizes it and denies a claim.
I'm wondering if it makes sense to just start a savings account and put in $150/month into it? (And grow it by 25% yearly - the same rate that Lemonade has been increasing)
Nationwide - another nationwide post
pretty pissed tbh...my corgi went through a bad bout of emergency diagnostics early this year, all covered by nationwide at the time.
He went back recently to have a recheck, sent it into nation wide like I had already done, suddenly it's denied. I did the review request and provided tons of documentation from the doctors. they claim its preexisting, and also went and retroactively said that all of my other claims shouldn't have been paid out.
He was diagnosed with protein losing enteropathy, and they're saying that because he "vomited" earlier in the year (our first sign), thats preexisting. This is insane. Cancel your shit before you have an emergency and it happens to you
