Progressive - What's a Good Process for Getting Better Service and Cheaper Coverage?
We have home & auto bundled with the agency of the credit union that holds our mortgage loan. Every year, they wait until the last possible time to send our annual escrow payment over to the insurance broker. So much so, that we get warning letters from the mortgage holder that they will have to get insurance for us at whatever rate they can get it because we have not made our payment on time. I think the agent is getting more interest on our annual payment by letting it go 1 month past the due date. Is that a normal practice? We are never late with our monthly payments that combine mortgage and home insurance together. We have an outstanding credit rating (800+).
Am I wrong to be furious with the insurance agent/agency? What can we do? I am kinda afraid to look at other options. We trusted this agency/Progressive to take care of us.
On another note, our auto coverage has ballooned from our initial rate when we first switched to this agency. We are two retirees who drive about 3-5 miles a day locally for errands and to pick up and drop off a grandchild at preschool. We've had 1 total loss in 2022 on a 2003 car that was hit by a deer ($2,600). I checked with our 55 year old daughter. She pays less for her home & auto coverage with AAA. I want lower rates and better service, but I don't even know where to start. I'm afraid that I will make a mistake and lose everything by being undercovered or taken advantage of. I thought Progressive was the best. Help!
ManyPets - Replacing ManyPets, which is not renewing insurance contracts in the US market?
I received an email recently that I would not be able to renew my 4-year-old cat's pet insurance through ManyPets due to the company no longer providing policies in the US market. They said I would be hearing from another company, Odie, about a new policy. I looked up Odie and it seems to have very low scores on Trustpilot. Has anyone else lost their ManyPets coverage? If so, who did you go with to replace it?
Delta Dental - Rude receptionist at the dentist gave me misinformation
I have Delta Dental PPO. I get 2 free cleanings per year. One xray per year.
Earlier this year, I got a cleaning and X-rays done at one dental office, but they dropped me as a patient because they stopped accepting Delta Dental. For my second cleaning, I scheduled with a different dental office. The receptionist there has been difficult to deal with.
I explained that I already had my X-rays done at a different office and only needed a cleaning. She pushed back and said, “How can you get a cleaning without X-rays?” She asked if i can email the xray images, so I contacted my old office and had them send the X-rays to me and then i sent the all the xray images to the new office. After i emailed the xray images, the receptionist said I would probably need to get new X-rays anyway, but that I could wait and see what the dentist says. I explained that I’m only allowed one set of X-rays per year under my plan and that I’m not due for another one until next February. She said, "I KNOW! But how can we provide proper care without knowing what is going on." I reiterated that I only need a cleaning and can wait until next year for another x ray and she seemed to understand but not without an attitude.
When I showed up for my appointment, she incorrectly said she checked my insurance and that I was eligible for another “free” X-ray anyway so it doesnt matter. I reminded her that I had already emailed them and dont need them again. She asked what email address?? She couldn’t find them in my chart until I opened up my phone to show my sent messages, then suddenly she “found” them and said never mind.
Despite that, they still insisted on doing a single bitewing X-ray and said I would need to return on a separate day for the cleaning. I’m frustrated because I feel like I’m being forced into extra appointments and services I may not need or be covered for.
Will I be charged out of pocket for this second X-ray, even though I already had one set done earlier this year? I thought Delta only covered one set annually. Has anyone else dealt with something similar?
I also want to add that the other receptionists, dental assistants, and dentists have all been very nice and easy to work with. It's just this one receptionist that is very difficult to deal with.
Medica - Insurance not fully covering room and board after birth
I live in Minnesota where insurance companies are required to cover 48 hours of inpatient care after a vaginal birth. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/62A.0411#:~:text=Every%20health%20plan%20must%20provide,a%20mother%20and%20her%20newborn.
My insurance (Medica) is trying to make me pay $1850 of the $8300 billed to them for room and board after I gave birth. The stay was less than 48 hours. Is this legal? Do I have a course of action here?
HO3 - HOA requiring owner to pay or file individual claim for roof damage after hurricane
We live in a townhome in Florida with an HOA. For context, we do have an HO3 policy. After Hurricane Milton, we sustained damage to the roof of our unit, which caused leakage into our garage.
We notified the HOA after seeing the damage, and we were advised that when there is a “named storm”, the individual owners are responsible for paying for roof repairs. The HOA coordinated repair with the company that services our roofs, and we were advised we could pay out of pocket or file a claim with our own individual insurance company. The amount is $2000, but our hurricane deductible is much larger, so we will elect to pay out of pocket IF it’s accurate that HOA is off the hook.
We have a copy of our bylaws but cannot see where we are responsible for this repair. All other times where there have been roof leaks, the HOA covers repairs. We asked the board members to point to where in our bylaws that it states we are responsible, but they refuse to answer.
Does anyone have any insight? I will also post this to the HOA sub.
Thank you!
Florida Blue Cross - Doctor sent sample to out of network lab
I asked the Doc to send a simple urine sample to Quest. My insurance covers 100% labs with Quest. Today I see on my Florida Blue Cross account they sent it to a different lab and my portion is $3170. What to do?
Allstate - Allstate Hassle
Hello everyone, I have a question.
I was recently involved in a not-at-fault accident with an Allstate-insured driver. Unfortunately, my own insurance canceled the night before the accident, so I did not have PIP coverage. Allstate has informed me that I’m responsible for a $7,400 medical bill, despite them reserving $5,500 for future medical expenses related to the accident.
If they have funds set aside for medical expenses, why can’t those be applied to the existing bills? I do not feel they are actuinh in good faith. Would it be advisable to seek legal assistance at this point?
Thank you for any insights.
Unum - Unum dental - no one seems to know about this PPO plan?
So my employer recently enrolled us in the Unum dental PPO plan. I've been calling offices near me and no one seems to know what insurance plan this is. Unum confirmed with me over the phone these offices are in network and every single one of them are saying they don't accept the insurance because they haven't heard of it. My insurance card also doesn't mention DenteMax or Connection Dental, so it's through Unum itself.
State Farm - Lease termination from landlord 2 days notice
Location: Southern California, USA
My roommate and I had a year fixed lease in a 2b/2b, ending summer 2025.
A month ago I discovered a leak coming from the wall in my closet. Landlord brought plumbers to check it out, they opened the wall a bit and discovered cracked pipes. The next week I was asked to leave for 2 weeks for repairs, in which I used renters insurance to cover my hotel (waiting on reimbursement still, but it should be coming).
After the 2 weeks, landlord couldn’t get a response from HOA on when the repair would be completed. Landlord suggested I break my lease and move since she wasn’t sure about the timeline (pipes only impacted my room, not my roommates). While trying to figure out my plans, she sent my roommate and I a text on Friday (3/28) afternoon that she is terminating our lease due to mold, and we need to be out by Wednesday (4/2) or sooner - she offered to reimburse March rent and give us $600 each for the inconvenience.
Any advice on 1) is she allowed to do this and 2) how we can get more money or time? 2 business days is such short notice to make arrangements and the cost to move will be more than $600
TLDR: landlord terminated lease due to mold, have to be out in 2 business days. I haven’t been able to live there for all of March
Enterprise - Other party (Enterprise rental) denying liability insurance claim, what can I do?
Got hit and run on the freeway in California a couple of months ago. Other party was at fault. My car is badly damaged in the front with paint transfer from the other car. I wrote down the license plate #, make, model, color, and went to file a police report and insurance claim the next morning. I don't have collision insurance so all my insurance could do was follow up with the other party's liability insurance and see what they said.
Turns out the other party was a rental car from Enterprise. Enterprise called me recently to get more details and my side of the story. They finally just emailed me saying "After a thorough investigation of the facts, we do not believe the operator is legally liable for the damages being claimed in this loss. The renter claimed no accident occurred at the time of rental. Upon returning and inspecting the rental car, there were no damages reported to the vehicle. There has been no evidence provided proving our renter hit your vehicle. We must therefore respectfully deny your claim."
What recourse do I have, if any? :(
